I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Richard Dreyfuss

Richard Dreyfuss appeared on "The View" to publicize "W.," in which he plays Dick Cheney, but ended up criticizing the film and director Oliver Stone instead.

When asked why he made the film, he said he did it for "money." Dreyfuss also said, "I think it's 6/8ths of a great film."

Asked how it was to work with Oliver Stone, he said "imagine working for Sean Hannity... you can be a fascist, even when you're on the left."

He also said he isn't sure the film "will have any historical legs."

That and more pointed criticism in the clip below, with a bonus awkward moment at the end.

What an ungrateful statement! I could say something stronger but don't want to be censored.

I liked the Stone film a lot and thought that Dreyfuss was perfectly snarky and sneery as Cheney. I thought he was turning it a brilliant acting job, but maybe he was just being his own nasty self. Stone gave him a great role, an opportunity to shine and he took it (and the money) and now he badmouths Stone.

Bite the hand that feeds you, Richard! See how many more jobs you'll be offered!

I had planned on going to see "W" but after hearing Oliver Stone talk about it, I decided, nope, it's not the Bush I see.

I've always been nauseated by this guy's screen presence. Watching him as himself gives me the same reaction.

Now Richard Dreyfus is upset because someone produced a satire of a President that resembles the truth, ain't that a shame.

Geee Maybe Richard should have not done the movie. Apparently he also seems to not care if he does another movie. I have never seen an actoir pan something they were in. I have heard them pan other movies they had nothing to do with. Apparently he is not getting any residuals, and could care less about how well the film perfomrs at the box office.

What the hell is wrong with Dreyfuss being right? So what if Stone acts like a fascist. Why would it be breathtakingly surprising? And what if Dreyfuss were just being sarcastic but carrying the joke a little too far? Who should give a rat's ass what Stone is like, or Dreyfuss, for that matter?

What's really important is that the "opposition party" wins the general election and has enough political power to act in a way that's beneficial for the country as a whole. The closer we get to election day, the more catastrophic a potential loss seems to get.

what was with his ridiculously slouched posture? Is that what happens when you play Cheney? like Frodo putting on the world-controlling ring in Lord of the Rings?

Apparently one's voting preferences should be decided by what movies one watches.

No matter how you feel about about what Dreyfuss said, one must admit, it was "food for thought."

What was interesting is the way he presented himself. Live, on "The View" performing his ad-lib monologue.

I totally agree with Dreyfuss. I saw the movie and was very disappointed. I've recommended to all my friends to not waste the money and, more importantly, time. I saw Rachael Maddow interview Stone and he said he made the movie so that we could avoid this situation in the future. Now I can't figure out what situation he is talking about. The movie was a joke.

Hold up, you take the money to play Dick Cheney, and then slam the movie and call the director a fascist? What about Stone did he find out during this movie that he didn't know before?

I think we all (yes I'm guilty)..toss the word "fascist" around too lightly...it is no joke.. and I long for the day when it becomes as offensive as the 'c" word or the "n" word...i.e., only those who ARE "f-words" can use it..

Okay..I've not seen the movie.. (will wait for DVD)...but..from the trailers..it seems Dreyfuss is sort of playing the same guy he played in the movie "DAVE" ( a really really GREAT Fun movie as far as I'm concerned)...

and as an added note..to this day...I get sad when (can't remember the year)..when the Academy Award for Best Actor...the name Richard came out..(and close ups of Richard Dreyfuss(Goodbye Girl) AND Richard Burton for Equus... and DUH!!!....Burton LOST...Richard Burton Lost?...my God..Equus was not a money maker..and a hard movie to watch..but my God...this man could ACT...

Richard Burton died a couple of years later..denied an academy award by a guy in a romantic comedy held together by a little girl and marsha mason...geez...

I don't know about others, but my first impression on viewing this clip was that R.D. was being a bit funny. Granted, he may not have come across as very light-hearted or amusing, but he gave his honest opinion about what he thought was lacking in the film and he compared Stone to Hannity, which is a pretty funny comparison in my opinion.

On a side note, I hung out for a few moments with actor/director Brian Dennehy at a bar in Los Angeles years ago, and he noted that film directing was the last dictatorship ...

I suppose he meant aside from actual dictatorships. So perhaps the majority of directors could be rightfully perceived as 'fascists'.

Dictatorship?

Yeah, right!

I guess if Castro, Mgabe and Kim Jong Il had to answer to a studio and take lame notes, then it would be exactly the same.

Why are so many of you condemning Richard Dreyfuss for having some criticisms re Oliver Stone? None of you know Oliver Stone. Dreyfuss could be absolutely correct. But because Dreyfuss is criticizing an outspoken liberal/Democrat, so many of you are now condeming Richard Dreyfuss.
And here I thought that liberals/Democrats were supposed to be the tolerant ones. Liberals/Democrats are only tolerant to those who think the same way that they do.
So pitiful.

Why are you condemning Progressive/Democrats based on Richard Effing Dreyfuss? You started off with a valid point but decided to use it as a tool to condemn just about everyone. What the hell?!

I know that Oliver's real name is Shlomo (sp.) Wonder what Dreyfuss' real problem is with Stone?

Dreyfuss is also a jew, so unlikely.

This has nothing to do with being a liberal, this has to do with the fact that this idiot started in the picture and collected a check! Give your pay back to Stone then, let Oliver donate it to a Veteran's fund. Something unfamiliar to you Richard!
