FiveThirtyEight:

Look in later today for our On the Road piece from Wilmington, North Carolina. We're a bit ahead of our coverage, which occasionally happens out here with the long distances, input, output and timing demands. Tonight we'll be at the Obama-Clinton rally in Kissimmee, Florida, and we're breaking in from Miami, where John McCain just concluded his "Joe the Plumber" rally at Everglades Lumber.

After the rally, we witnessed a near-street riot involving the exiting McCain crowd and two Cuban-American Obama supporters. Tony Garcia, 63, and Raul Sorando, 31, were suddenly surrounded by an angry mob. There is a moment in a crowd when something goes from mere yelling to a feeling of danger, and that's what we witnessed. As photographers and police raced to the scene, the crowd elevated from stable to fast-moving scrum, and the two men were surrounded on all sides as we raced to the circle.

What a legacy for McCain 'the patriot'- inspiring this- violence, intolerance.
Is he proud?
How can republicans have any self respect at all?
They have just ruined so much, and they want to ruin it all, everything..
For what?
the Almighty Dollar.
In God We trust indeed.

Just think what these right wing mcCarthyites are going to do after Obama is elected. It is frightening. John McCain and the Republican Party owe it to this country to call these people out on what they are doing.

"In one week, we can choose hope over fear, unity over division, the promise of change over the power of the status quo. In one week, we can come together as one nation, and one people, and once more choose our better history. That's what's at stake. That's what we're fighting for." - Quote from Barack Obama in his closing argument speech.

how very sad
I hold McCain/Palin responsible for firing these people up with their lies and inflammatory statements
there is no honor in their campaign
and when is anyone going to hold them responsible?

the difference ,as has been noted, is Obama takes the high , even discourages booing
saying "we don't need that...just vote"

and why the repubs would want to be supported by these lowlifes is beyond me..anything for a vote

Here's the difference between the two campaigns.
Obama supporters were threatened by a mob at a McCain rally.
I attended the Obama rally in Ft. Collins, Colorado Sunday. 50,000 happy folks just smiled benignly as a guy with a pro-McCain sign sauntered through the crowd. Nobody said "Boo" to him. Didn't even give him a dirty look.

I experienced the same thing in Virginia. I attended an Obama rally in Fredericksburg, VA about a month ago and it was about 23,000 Obama supporters. Among them were about 4 woman with black tape covering their mouths and a sign that said something about 'change not making cents'? I didn't know what it was about but no Obama supporter threatned them or made any negative comments towards them. I don't understand the concept of the conservative Reps who claim to live by the bible and believe in Jesus Christ yet they act more like the people who crucified him. I have been to two Obama rallies in VA and it was people of all ethnic backgrounds and it was just so peaceful.

I truly do not understand the hateful actions from the right. Seriously, aren't they supposedly the "Christian Right." I think they need to ask WWJD. I don't think Jebus would approve of such divisiveness, hate, and violence but that's just my impression of Jebus. Maybe theirs is different.

This is what the rethuglican party has evolved to. How pathetic, and people actually want mccain and palin to run this country. I shudder to think what a presidency run by those two would look like. There are some good republicans (the enlightened ones) out there and most of them are voting for Obama.

Kudos to Garcia and Sarando for making themselves heard. The reaction of the angry mob around them is further proof of the mentality present in pro-MacPalin crowds . . . if you can't drown out dissenters, beat them down. Haven't we all had enough of this kind of sick, sad behavior?

And reportersn rub their hands, gleefully. Nommm, race war! Let's see who will sponsor the coverage of this lovely event,
Initially, the Huffpo was a breath of fresh air. After a few weeks it reads like the sensationalistic rags rags it condemns. It teeters between mock outrage and the sense that without these hypermagnified incidents, there is no copy. Faugh!

I'm sorry to say that I'm not surprised that the anger and hatred is coming from the "red" side.

It is coming from the red side now. And not too long ago, and even still now, it comes from the O supporters. I won't say the blue side, because I don't consider O supporters to be the True segment of Democrats. They are just phony hypocrite liberals.

Sounds like a disgruntled Hillary supporter to me. Which in turn makes you the biggest hypocrite ever.

Hillary Clinton was specific with her supporters and what she wanted of them after the primaries. She herself did everything possible for the Obama campaign.

Get over it, move on.

Palin, et al, are out inciting anger and hate...why are we surprised when violence actually happens?
