Lieberman Likely To Lose Committee Chairmanship

Democratic leaders are discussing a major reshuffling of Senate committee chairmanships, according to multiple sources, and the proposed changes include ousting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) from his coveted chairmanship.

Lieberman, a former Democrat who supports Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, is likely to lose his gavel on the Homeland Security Committee he has chaired since January 2007, say the sources who see him being replaced by Sen. Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), the committee's third-ranking Democrat.

Lieberman ran AGAINST the Democrat chosen by the primary in CT in the last election. He thought we should lose even more rights in the Patriot Act than we did. He enthusiastically lobbied for war against the Iraqis. At one time before 2000 I called him a "closet Republican," but he came out of the closet once Bush was in office. The only thing to be said in his favor is that he is good on the environment. He can caucus where he likes, but anyone who deals with him should watch for the knife in the back.
