The Hill:

Democratic leaders are discussing a major reshuffling of Senate committee chairmanships, according to multiple sources, and the proposed changes include ousting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) from his coveted chairmanship.

Lieberman, a former Democrat who supports Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, is likely to lose his gavel on the Homeland Security Committee he has chaired since January 2007, say the sources who see him being replaced by Sen. Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), the committee's third-ranking Democrat.

I did not like him when I lived in CT and I like him less now. Strip his chairmanship immediately after the innauguration.

why should there even been discussion about this - the man campaigned with repub party, he campaigned with McCain who calls a sitting US senator a terrorist, a socialist, a communist - please

perhaps all those things are better than being called Bush but neither deserve an ounce of respect for what they did during this campaign

Joew has been complicit in the McCain slime and should be removed from ALL committes. Let him spend his final days in a cramped little office starting at the walls and a photo of the feckless McCain

Lieberman has been an integral part of one of the vilest campaigns in American history.
That campaign has suggested that not just Obama but the Democratic Party is
"un-American", socialist, terrorist, etc.

Should the Democrats get the 59 votes without Lieberman, I would rather they offer a plum
committee chairmanship to Hagel or Olympia Snowe to join the Democratic Party.

I would have much more trust in the integrity of either of those.

Um Hagel won't even be a Senator anymore. . .

Hagel will probably be in the Cabinet if Obama wins.

But offering Snowe or Collins a plum assignment to flip from R to D is a good idea.

5 more days to make 60 happen--everyone please donate to the DSCC and/or individual candidates: Kay Hagan (NC), Andrew Rice (OK), Al Franken (MN) , Jim Martin (GA) , Rick Noriega (TX), Bruce Lunsford (KY), Jeff Merkley (OR), Jeanne Shaheen (NH)! This final weekend is crucial!

DONATE to get rid of LIEberman!

Has Hagel endorsed Obama? If not, then he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near Obama's cabinet.

I know what I'd like to do with that gavel, and I mean after knocking some sense into Lieberman with it.

He needs to have every privilege taken away. He has betrayed his colleagues and the voters. Lieberman has reinforced the fact that he is a brown nosed slug and he is as slimey as McPalin!

As much as I would love (I mean DEARLY LOVE) to see Lieberman pay for his double-dealing, back-stabbing hypocritical betrayals, from a purely pragmatic point of view this probably won't happen.

Even if the Dems hit 60 seats, a number of those seats will be vulnerable in one way or another (Kennedy's failing health, Byrd's age (and W VA is a VERY red state), Biden and Obama moving up to the executive branch). It will be quite difficult to hang on to 60 seats, and it might not be possible to make it.

60 isn't the magic number a lot of people make it out to be; on some issues conservative Dems might still join with the GOP. On other issues, it might be necessary to reach out to the few moderate Repubs left (Collins, Snowe a few others). If the Dems come in like the GOP did and throw their weight around they won't get nearly as much done as they hope (and the country needs).

The unfortunate truth is; as much as I'd love to see Lieberman tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail, he may still have some power to bargain with after his beloved McCain goes down to defeat. The Dems don't really need him UNLESS they're entire strategy for legislative success depends on having 60 seats, which, frankly, wouldn't bode well for genuine bipartisanship and a return to comity.

I agree, however. With Obama, reaching across the aisle will be viable. More moderate Repubs will come onboard (and to their senses). Lieberman will become a liability for both parties. He has shown his true colors of greed and deceit. We in Connecticut do not want him around anymore. I did not vote for him the last time, and I certainly will not vote for him next time. Let him sit out his days with no power or respect. He has earned it.

He's lucky to even have a seat. He needs to be sent to Connecticut, never to return to D.C. I hope he gets swept out office the next election cycle.

With a little luck, he will be GONE, BABY, GONE!

Connecticut does not want him.

He's already sold his soul, so he's no good to us.

Thanks, but no thanks.
