Lieberman Likely To Lose Committee Chairmanship

Democratic leaders are discussing a major reshuffling of Senate committee chairmanships, according to multiple sources, and the proposed changes include ousting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) from his coveted chairmanship.

Lieberman, a former Democrat who supports Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, is likely to lose his gavel on the Homeland Security Committee he has chaired since January 2007, say the sources who see him being replaced by Sen. Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), the committee's third-ranking Democrat.

Libermann. Good riddance!!! But Daniel Akaka instead, I'm not so sure. I vaguely recall an article in TIME a year or so ago about long time senators with least accomplishments. Daniel Akaka was prominently mentioned near the top of the list. Anybody want to talk me down on this one.

For the better of this nation, lets return to the principles of meritocracy that we sometimes claim as a core value of USA. Who ever is elected President should appoint qualified people to be in charge. I don't care if its republican, democrat or independent as long as they're qualified and can fix the problems, be a positive influence on the system.

For better or worse the 2 party system that we have here has conditioned a majority of us to view the world and ourselves in terms of dichotomies. This "with us or against us", "black vs white", "conservative vs liberal", "socialist vs capitalist" type of discussion is so counter productive. This type of conditioning has made it so difficult for us to be rational and accept that the other side might have some good ideas worth pursuing.

More often than not the world cannot be viewed in quantum terms, it is perhaps best represented as a continuum.
