The Hill:

Democratic leaders are discussing a major reshuffling of Senate committee chairmanships, according to multiple sources, and the proposed changes include ousting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) from his coveted chairmanship.

Lieberman, a former Democrat who supports Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, is likely to lose his gavel on the Homeland Security Committee he has chaired since January 2007, say the sources who see him being replaced by Sen. Daniel Akaka (Hawaii), the committee's third-ranking Democrat.

You could see it earlier this week. Lieberman was backtracking big time after he realized that he backed the wrong horse-opting for a mule dressed as a maverick...

i don't like lieberman either, but frankly, the vengeful notion to kick him to the curb because he's become mccain's BFF doesn't sit well with me. he's still voting democrat on nearly everything that matters (except the iraq war), and that needs to count for a lot. and especially if obama will really try and reduce partisanship. now, if he's causing problems as chairman of the homeland security committee, by all means, remove him. but if he's doing a good job, i'm not sure that's the best thing to do. (though yeah, my thirst for revenge wants him kicked.)

senate politics need to be realpolitik. in order to get things done one has to get along with people, even if one finds some of their behaviour distasteful.

The majority party gets the committee chairmanships (with the tie, they've been compromising).

Lieberman won as an "Independent", not a Democcrat.

Why should he get to chair a committee when a DEMOCRAT could do it?

That's what winning is all about.

Bye-bye, Chairman Joe. (The rest is up to Connecticut.)

Committee Chairmanships and other perks are for party loyalists as a reward for their time and service to the party. Lieberman is a viper. He has placed his needs above that of party and country. Obama supported his run for Senate until he lost the Democratic primary. His endorsement and active campaigning for McCain is an affront to Obama and the Democratic party. He is in fact NOT a Democrat. He was not elected as a Democrat. I think he should lose all seniority within the party. If he chooses to continue to caucus and vote with the Democrats and works to re-earn party trust and confidence and run again as a Democrat, fine. But his recent actions have proven he is no loyal Democrat and cannot be trusted. If he decides to officially join his friends on the Republican side of the aisle, let him. I for one will not miss this two faced snake in the grass in the ranks of loyal Democrats.

its not the supporting of McCain that bothers me it is the viciousness in which he did it. he threw the dems under the bus, backed up rolled over, drove off, did a u-turn and ran over than again...now he wants to say he only ran over the dems because his breaks weren't working...dude we saw what you did

While they're ousting Joe, they (whoever 'they' are) should change the frickin' name of "Homeland Security!" What a stupidly paranoid label to put on a Democratic Institution! Remember, some RepugniKon PR Flack probably named it in the first place, reflecting the Conservative's Scarety-Kat Mindset. Imho, of course.

Great point! I couldn't agree with you more. This has always sounded like the Nazi references to the Motherland during WWII. Let's dump it!

Lieberman should have been sacked a long time ago. If this were te reverse and Lieberman had switched from GOP to the Democratic party, he would have been ousted a long time ago

Joe Lieberman must be removed from his committee chairmanship. He has proven that his views are those of the radical far right and they are endangering our country and our position in the world.
Homeland security is much too important to be left to a war-monger. There are any number of well-qualified people to take his place.
As for allowing him to continue to caucus with the Democrats, Joe knows that his goose is cooked in his next election, so I doubt that he will continue as a Democrat. He will change his party affiliation to Republican in the next administration.

If "holy Joe" isn't removed we should commence a recall of the Congressional democratic leaders.
