During Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's last swing through battleground states this week, boisterous supporters cheer almost on cue when she delivers her stump speech.

Few lines get a more deep-felt roar of approval than her signature issue -- support for children with disabilities.

Palin's words strike deeper than just with parents who come to her rallies because one of their children has a disability.

If she wants to choose to have a Down's baby that's fine, but dictating to anyone else about that is not okay, special needs or not special needs.

Don't you think Trig looks like he's saying: "Who are you" and "Get off me". I mean she lost the poor baby at a rally. She kept calling him and no one ever showed up with the photo op baby.

That baby is not Sarah Palin's. Look at all the video footage of her holding Trig and even this picture shows it. Trig is not responding to her. Trig does not look at her. Trig NEVER looks comfortable in her (or her husband's) arms. Contrast it with when Bristol is holding Trig. It's like night and day.

Who is Trig's real mommy...we know its not that cute lilttle piper girl that trig calls mommy.

i am still not convinced that's her kid.....the daughter carries him around like a mother would carry her child and "Sarah the Panderer" carries him around like a display....

Coded Language = Loaded Language = Christian Dog Whistle. Cheering multitudes are responding to the whistle. Lemmings. Don't they understand that anti-abortion=government telling us (pregnant) women what we can and cannot do with our bodies.

Count yourself lucky if you don't hear it. I do, and it's darned irritating.

Who's got the best understanding of foreign policy: Trig, Sarah, Todd. No... Todd, Trig, Sarah. No... I give up. The family photo is the original box of rocks.

Nobody ever seems to ask why Palin, if she's such a firm believer in the sanctity of life would risk pregnancy after the age of 40? This is a woman who already had four kids, and she had to know that the risk of Trig being Down's Syndrome would be astronomical. To me, it's not heroic to do what she's done. It'sselfish.

Trig is not hers

How can she support special needs children when she is against scienctific research? Science is also tied very closely with education and we know how she feels about education with her daughter and soon to be son-in-law dropping out of high school.

I agree. Thanks to scientific research, the docs were able to identify and advise her of the baby's health, and the challenges she was due to face with a special needs baby.

Her "signature issue" - support for children with disabilities - requires a bunch of Democrats in Congress to pass the legislation she is already bragging about.

Republicans wouldn't do it.

Oh my ...doesn't Sarah realize the COSTS involved to tax payers to educate children with special needs? Maybe Sarah is THE Socialist. The issue of a Woman's Right to Choose has NOTHING to do with children with special needs....it has to do with a WOMANs BODY and HER OWN PERSONAL RIGHT to do with it as SHE chooses. Sarah is NOT FOR WOMEN. Sarah is NOT FOR Children. Sarah is FOR Sarah.......how adorable her little baby looks in part of her own $150,000 clothing expense for her failed VP run. Maybe she'll keep that little outfit (and pay the taxes) for her memory book.

Anyone unaware of her views must be living in the hinterlands. As far as what I see of her using a newborn, special needs or not, as a campaign prop ... better left unsaid how callous that strikes me.

This picture causes me to shudder. Down's babies have an underdeveloped nervous system, making them prone to startling at loud sounds, bright lights, etc.

I believe this picture was taken just after Palin's RNC VP speech. Trig was brought on stage, where the noise was intense.

Trig is wide eyed, with his back arched, his front pushing forward to Sarah Palin. He's startled and distressed. I recognize this as I too had a family member with Down's syndrome.

I had hoped Sarah would inform herself about these special babies, and attend as a parent should to their special needs. In this situation, Trig needed anywhere but front and center.

I was just going to leave a comment similar to yours after looking at that photo. But I see you've said everything I'm thinking. It must be so loud on those little baby ears ... that can't be healthy.

If she loved that baby she would be with him all the time.

With a special needs child she does not have time to be vice president.

You're right - Trig's not a happy chappie. Are Alaska child protection anywhere?

NO.

She didn't even take any time off after she 'had' Trig. That's right NO MATERNITY LEAVE AT ALL. Palin is not the mother of that baby. Doctors would not allow her to just walk out of the hospital after having a Down's baby and go right back to work but that's exactly what happened.
