I Like ItI Don’t Like It

"30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin talked to David Letterman about guesting on "Saturday Night Live" alongside Sarah Palin.

"She was lovely" and "very nice" he told Letterman. He also said he didn't want her hand on the nuclear button.

Then, imitating her voice (which he's done before), Baldwin said of Palin, "She said to me, 'I've been talking to your brother Stephen and we've been chatting, trying to figure out how to knock some sense into you.'"

After a few more Stephen jokes on Alec's part, he told Dave, "She's a beautiful, beautiful woman." and referred to her as "Bible Spice."

Gov. Palin doesn't really strike me as neither bitter or murky. Where did you get that?

At least the second time Alec has been (mostly--not sure about "Bible Spice") very gracious about Palin..as is Tina Fey in her recent interviews and most anyone who has actually met her, including some of her opposition in Alaska. Which shows that you can disagree with someone without resorting to the name calling and worse that passes for political discourse on both sides (and nowhere more than on this site). Even Palin's "palling around with terrorists" or McCain's "personal" attacks on Obama have been about his associations...a real stretch but.no worse than Obama's goofy Spanish ads trying to convince Hispanic voters that the primary advocate in the seneate for amnesty hates them.

Yeah, I'm not sure your argument holds up on FoxNews. Or Michelle Malkin's site. Or FreeRepublc, The lecture about elevated discourse is one that you might want to forge in McCain's camp regarding his reference to "that one".

Alec actually gained a lot more of my respect after hearing his comments about Palin. Though he may disagree with her on quite a bit, he can still compliment her. Wish all liberals were like that.

demonsweat : In our country there are 2 schools of thought. Conservative and Liberal.

Republicans want a Government and by very definition to CONSERVE the wealth of our nation. Problem is we have very little wealth borrowing from China to pay the Middle East. I argue that a hands off government approach to the tune of conservation when millions are unemployed is no place to start.
We have bailed out the banks, but the individuals lose possibly their homes and certainly their credit. Proposed republican ideals of Privatization for schools health care and even social security puts ALL at risk.

During the great depression the US president FD Roosevelt put people to work.He built roads bridges and dams and thus put people to work. These workers paid income taxes and got it back at the end of the year. In doing so, the fed had use of that money interest free for the whole year.
Unemployment is out of control. Now a Republican Government wants to cut your taxes good idea in times of wealth.
Create jobs and tax the masses give it back at the end of the year. We have proven the give a man a fish theory this year with the economic stimulus plan. The other half of the analogy seems to be totally forgotten. How could a tax return once a year pay an individual’s weekly grocery bill let alone the household monthly?
I resolve Cutting taxes is a mute point for the unemployed.

ddee,

Understood, and agreed.

Its time we stand up and tell the politicians the representing us (the American people)
is a priveledge and should treated as such. Politics should not be a career but a service.
That service should have term limits as well as some reasonable compensation.
I feel that reasonable compensation would be the average salary of that politicians
costituency. The President, VP, etc. should make the same salary as the average
citizen. Governors, State Representatives, etc should make the same as their State's
average salary. That is an Economic plan that could be called the new "Trickle Down"
plan. those at the top wanting to ake more for themselves would do everything in their power
to improve the income of their constituents.

Acceptance of special interest monies needs to be considered treason. How else can we
think? Any person that willingly changes their agenda from what they believe to what someone
else wants for money is a traitor. Treason is punishable by death. or lock them away.

While we're at it let's reform our prison systems!

Well, I agree with you... sorta. The Republican stance is about the same no matter the national situation. That's a bad ideology unless you're a Constitutionalist (such as myself). :)

Well, "The New Deal" really is closer to socialism. I mean, it did help to bring about Freddy Mae. And we see how that turned out. Do you really want that? Why not just let the free market handle the economic instability? Capitalism anyone?

I want less government not more of it trying to tell me how to wipe my a$$.

She's about as beautiful as any normal weight 44-year old woman in designer clothing, with a professional hair and makeup job. Which is to say, she is an average-looking woman all gussied up. But, I suppose if we are comparing her to other female Republican politicians, she is great looking.

honestly why does it matter how any of the politicians look? despite their outer shells, they have to have some inner moxy and substance and ideas and smarts. sadly sarah palin has no inner or outer beauty. she is just a tool. an average tool in designer clothes with a very expensive hair and make up team. for the money they pay, she better look half way decent. but nope, she's no great beauty, inside or out.

I met her briefly in person and she is outstanding.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:09 PM on 10/30/2008

Yes, if we are comparing her to other female Republicans, then it is clear that McCain went with style over substance, beauty over brains. Now, I wonder will all the other women politicians in the GOP install tanning beds at home, and given themselves a "dumbover" to be more pretty and less smart looking.

Really?

Because she horrifies me but I think she's *waaaaaaay* beyond average looking. Her bone structure and her coloring are gorgeous. It's weird how much better she looks now than she did when she was young, even though I don't see any reason to think she's had plastic surgery.

I agree. Ugly politics aside, she's a very good looking woman. And she's a lot better looking now than she was as Ms. Wasilla. But then, I think a lot of women grow lovelier with age - to a point, of course.

But it's still a frightening thought to imagine her as VP or POTUS.

I agree, her personality and politics are just plain nasty and that effects my opinion when I look at her. Similarly to that of Elizabeth Hassleveryone, she is just ugly even with the lipstick. I wonder what she really looks like without her makeup and professional makeup artist. Bet that's not a pretty sight at all! Alec Baldwin is such a funny and intelligent man and I'm sure that his personality adds to his extreme good looks. I'm glad that we get to see the side of him that we are seeing these days.

I am tired of seeing people being "Liberals" just for the sake of being liberal.
I am not a zealot by any means. I do haves piritual beliefs. I also
have very patriotic feelings. That is why I want to be a "Conservative". I want
to conserve it for future generations .

There seem to be a lot of people that want to change this country to better fit the
"minorities". There also seem to be a lot of people that support these changes just so as not
to appear to be opposing these efforts. I am tired of seeing all these changes being made
to our Country.

There have been no candidates worthy of office in many years, yet we still put them up for
election as if we don't care. The greed involved with political office, on both sides, has become absolutely obscene.

Bring to the American people representatives that are willing to serve the people, not just
show a facade of such to remain in office. Give us lawmakers that are willing to vote on laws
and issues on their own merit, not tack "riders" on to get the riders passed or to
bring down the original bill. Give us representatives that want to make a difference,
not make a name for themselves. Representatives that want to build this country back to
the proud place and populace it once was, not ones that only want to build personal wealth.

Give us back the United States of America!!

While the second half of your writing here is admirable and inspiring, the first half seems... misguided. People don't want to "change this country to better fit the minorities," they want equality for all people regardless of race, sexual orientation, or belief (or lack thereof as the case may be).

That's what the founding fathers were thinking when they drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Besides, by the traditional definition both parties are now "liberal".

Agreed. I think Obama is the lesser of two evils in this regard. When I look at McCain, all I see is old school partisan policy humper.

Obama is not perfect, but given our choice, he is clearly a step in the right direction.

I can do things such as post here. (Don't worry, I'm not undermining the economic structure

While editing my previous post the first part did lose some of the feel and direction I had

demonsweat, isn't it amazing that politicians, unlike athletes, doctors, etc. have NOT gotten better with time, when it comes to presidential candidates. The first 3 president in my life were Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy. And those 3 guys were far better leaders then what we are given now.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:19 PM on 10/30/2008

Better with time. Wouldn't that be nice.

I feel that this country is going down rather quickly. One of the root problems, I feel,
can be witnessed in Mr. Baldwin's performance. Common courtesy and general
respect are all but dead. There was a time when we showed respect to our neighbors,
and our community leaders. Just by the simple act of referring to the Republican
candidates as "McBush" and "Bible Spice" shows a lack of respect. The fact that
no one seems to be bothered by that lack of respect is a shameful thing.

If we want respectable people in office, we have to make those offices respectable
places to be.

What I find funny is how these entertainers will flatter Palin, wimp out and say nice things to her face, then turn around and be condescending. Why not just be honest and boycott SP; Alex might do better by refraining from working with her at all, but I guess he likes the money.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:33 PM on 10/30/2008

No, it's not about the money. Trust me. He doesn't make scads of money when he goes on SNL. He does it because it's good publicity and is fun for him. SNL has a history of having politicians on both sides of the aisle on the show. How many times did the poke fun at Clinton? More than any of us can remember. Look, on a personal level, she might be nice and interesting. " We" haven't met her, so "we" don't know. Professionally, she is a conniving, vile and, yes, I do believe evil woman.

Also, did it occur to you that being on SNL might have cheapened her to her consituents and undecided indies? That rap song made her look like a fool.
