I Like ItI Don’t Like It

"30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin talked to David Letterman about guesting on "Saturday Night Live" alongside Sarah Palin.

"She was lovely" and "very nice" he told Letterman. He also said he didn't want her hand on the nuclear button.

Then, imitating her voice (which he's done before), Baldwin said of Palin, "She said to me, 'I've been talking to your brother Stephen and we've been chatting, trying to figure out how to knock some sense into you.'"

After a few more Stephen jokes on Alec's part, he told Dave, "She's a beautiful, beautiful woman." and referred to her as "Bible Spice."

Bible Spice has to stick. It is our duty as she runs for president in the future that we stay committed to that sticking. BIBLE SPICE

The Bible doesn't offer what she's preaching. The New Testament is all about love and forgiveness, not hate and lies.

I love Alec Baldwin! He is one of the smartest, funniest people on television. The voices he does are hilarious! Alec, you need to do more late night. Love the imitation of your brother in the restaurant. Too funny.

That last comment Baldwin made is exactly why the democratic party has such a hard time bringing Christian's into the fray. They may agree with most things, but when someone belittles their faith, it immediately turns them off.

I mean, really, that was pretty funny, but it was also pretty callous.

If the Democratic party OUTLAWED abortion and moved every gay person in America to Antartic the Chrisitan Right Republicans would NOT vote or support a Democrat. For 20 years they've been indoctrinated to believe ANYONE who's democrat is DEMONIC. They'd say the actions were a stratigic move to DECEIVE Christians. Sadly, these people have elevated the GOP in DEITY level !

You are right but it works BOTH ways......I guarantee most folks on this blog won't vote for a republican no matter how intelligent, decent, and well-meaning he/she might be. Even if that person was pro-choice.

That's why we have such a visceral feeling about severe right wing conservatives...that they think politics is only personal, that everything is black and white, right and wrong, good and evil, with not one consideration of the complexity of humanity. It's so terribly insular and repressive to a culture that needs to move forward or face a stagnant or worse, a backwards slide.

For me, "Bible Spice" evokes the exact sentiment. ..that we cannot and will not take her pushing HER God, you know... the one who tells her that he sanctions the war in Iraq, onto those who might be her constituents, no more than we can listen to, and take seriously, those who tell us the apocalypse is around the corner. Her faith is just that, her personal belief, it has no place in policy discussions, or used to encourage fear and divisiveness. It is difficult to respect someone who simultaneously, embarrasses and infuriates me.

As a person raised in a fundalmentalist enviornment in the 50s and 60s I resent you calling these hate filled ignorant people Christians. The sad thing is they dont' really know the Bible. If they read at all they read interpertations of the Bible and books about the Bible, because the Bible is too complicated. But mostly they just listen to rants from their leaders.
If they read the Bible and knew the basic Christrian concepts they would not speak or behave they way they do. Christ was all about love and compassion.

Believe me the rest of us so-called non-Christians know that. Which only serves to heighten the hypocrisy of these folks!

It's callous to tell the truth about people going to hell? Clearly Stephen Baldwin himself does not agree with you.

It's an absolutely accurate representation of how evangelical Christians see the world. I can see why some people would be mad about Alec Baldwin saying it, though. They are mad because they're not in control of how that message was delivered to the public. Because Alec B. is being satirical instead of serious.

I used to be one of the Bible people myself, actually. I thought it was hilarious, because I know people like that--worse, actually--right here in my little corner of South Carolina.

Have you ever heard Bush quote scripture? Ever? No, you haven't! Not so much as a single line! You know why? He is completely unable to! He knows nothing about the Bible and he knows nothing about Christianity. And neither do many "spiritual, family values, conservatives" that pretend (like he does) to be quote "Christian." It's the single most meaningless gesture of "being a good person" that cynical Americans tout.

It's time we all start facing reality and being honest! That goes double true for "Christian conservatives!"

Press conference, please. With real questions and follow-ups.

Too much to ask?

Evidently so.

She'd be SO much sexier if instead of "bright" she was leader-quality intelligent - and the lights came on in her eyes when interviewed. Not the beauty pageant BS; depth of character can't be faked. Look at W.

I think you're right. If she really had a brain, she'd be unstoppable. But then again, if she really had a brain, then she'd likely see the absurdity of her beliefs and actually be a Democrat.

Only a Republican would be stupid enough to mock the value of fruit fly research while giving a speech on Special Needs children!

What does being beautiful have to do with being a competent VP and potentially US presidency in Palin's case, god forbid! Wake up! you are not voting for a pageant queen here! Alec Baldwin can audition her later. I can't believe that this piece was even newsworthy. Look at all the political, financial, and social repercussions that a potential McCain/Palin administration will have! Why should we care if some one has a few nice exchanges with an actor?! Is this how measure some one's competence and intelligence to lead a country? No wonder Bush stole one and got voted the second time!

Will some one tell me just what in the world "bible spice" is suppose to mean? Yes we know she is religious and yes, most liberals are not, that much is certain.

Is this suppose to be some sort of insult?

Remember the Spice Girls? Scary Spice, Baby Spice, etc? I'm embarrassed to know more about this than you do, but she is apparently being compared to a flaky girl pop group with limited appeal and talent. Right on, Baldwin!

Remember the pop group Spice Girls...Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Sporty Spice, etc.

More of a pop culture reference than an insult, I'd say.

I think he was referring to her in terms of the Spice Girls when he called her Bible Spice. I didn't think it was an insult considering he was talking about how attractive she was. But than again, it may also because Scary Spice was already taken.
