CNN:

Election Day is still days away, but Republicans are already caught up in a heated debate about Sarah Palin's future role in the party should the GOP ticket fail to win the White House.

In one corner are some conservatives who believe the Alaska governor has been a detriment to John McCain's presidential bid and threatens to lead the party astray for the foreseeable future.

Another faction says Palin's core-conservative beliefs, demonstrated political acumen, and compelling frontier biography position her to reshape the face of a party now viewed by many voters as out of touch. ...

"A civil war that is simmering will break out into the open if McCain loses, and the party will have to decide what they want to be in the post-Reagan world," said Gloria Borger, a senior political analyst for CNN.

The very astute Lawrence O'Donald offers this, name the last Vice-Presidental candidate on the losing ticket who had any political future. I can't remember one in the last 80 years.

Franklin Roosevelt 1920, ran as Vice President and lost. Joe Kennedy said that the best thing that happened to John Kennedy was not winning the Dem V.P. nod in 1956. Palin is working against some serious history.

Here's a hint. Instead of sending out someone with a lot of "personality" whatever that means to your base, try sending someone out with some well-thought out, practical policy proposals that address so current social problems, not 40-60 year old ones. (The whole "fight communism" thing is really not working for most of the country.)

So, step 1: policy proposals.

step 2: ok, maybe some personality and waving and stuff.

I listened to Morning Joe today and was surprised that the crew on there was saying that Mooselips has a future in the Republican Party. Even though they recited the plummeting polls regarding Palin they excused her because of the mishandling by the McCain campaign, the media etc. and some of these are Democrats. I don’t understand it--don't people see how dumb she is?--after 2 months she still doesn’t understand national and international issues.
My guess is that the people of Alaska have gotten a closer look at her through this campaign and she won't even make re-election. Her political career is done!!!

Yes, they do, or they feel sorry for her. You would think that the conservatives in that group would be thinking about how to reform the party, The only thing that Palin attracted was extreme right wingers. They fail to see how insulting she was to most of the country with her statements that some Americans are more pro american than others. However it makes news spin.

John McCain brought this wrath on the GOP and America. Everything this man does or says backfires on him.

Someone give her a "news" show and she'll go away real quick.

If she is the furture of the party, it just means they're going to continue to head further to the right (i.e. "whack job" evangelicals)...which would mean fewer newer voters will likely consider themselves Republicans.

OR she'll split off and found her own new 'mavericky' party, and call it something like the God Loves Me and Not You You Betcha Real America party.

"Conservative" during the Reagan years meant lower taxes, a strong defense, and a pro business legislative agenda. "Conservative" today means a homophobic, abortion hating, evangelical Christian.

Winky says: Are you all in the GOP telling me you're done with me? You mean all that b.s. I was slinging for you and all that winking was for naught? Say it ain't so.

The years in 1960, 1964, the Carter years, the Clinton years, but everything in the last four years especially has been way down hill. It is totally off track now and rolling downhill now. We are heading for a big crash!!! I've talked to many people about this, and they all feel the same, they are all very concerned about the direction this nation is heading into. This election is so vitally important. The right candidate is OBAMA. That is the only hope for change, for putting the country on a better path. McCain is not the answer, he would only add to the ever growing problem and has proven that by the way he has train-wrecked his campaign, and his jmis-judgement with Sarah Six Pack. He has never spoken a word about his plan and his message has changed so many times it is un-recognizable! What has come across time and time again, are attacks. Attacks and hate. We are sick of them. (5) MORE DAYS, couldn't get here fast enough!!!

Let's hope Sarah Palin's future is an obscure footnote in American history.

O, I hope the republicans continue to push her as their choice for the future. She is doing her part to destroy the GOP and get dems elected because she is so unsavory.

When McCain looses, he will have the last laugh because he introduced Palin to the national level and now she believes she can compete and will not go away. He will retire and we will have to deal with this bimbo.

No matter what anybody says Palin, was not qualified to run for VP, she was a tool McCain tried to use to get to the White House... a gamble that failed! She was never vetted.

Palin is and will continue to blame her handlers. The fact is Palin knows nothing about anything and her interviews proved it and a decision was made to keep her away from the media because they would reveal what little she really knows.

Maybe I should not be mad at McCain, but should thank him for the entertainment that Palin gave us.

A big juggernaut of a bus was heading into Wasilla at high speed, chicken hawks and vultures scattering like blown chaff, and there, standing in the middle of the road like a moose caught in the headlights, was Sarah Palin, snarling, go on, I double dare you!

Poor Sarah, another example of unwanted roadkill.

Well that would be interesting - a presidential candidate with a spouse who has belonged to a party
that advocates Alaska succession from the US. That would be fun to watch!
