I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The Republican Party of Wisconsin is sending out a somewhat peculiar attack-mailer targeting Barack Obama.

The literature accuses the Illinois Democrat of never having "led" like a president is required to do, citing a history of voting "present" and a failure to oppose his own party's leadership. Those are basically boilerplate accusations.

What is interesting is the back of the piece, which features a picture of a bird with its head in the sand -- meant, ostensibly, to represent Obama. Moreover, the prior page (which has upright birds in the backdrop) includes a quote from an article written by Ezra Klein -- of the liberal American Prospect -- that reads: "Obama is that oddest of all creatures: a leader who's never led."

That Klein piece was written way back in October 10, 2006 -- several months before Obama even announced his candidacy. And one would be hard pressed to find an article written by him since the launch of the campaign that praises John McCain as a more adept leader than the current Democratic nominee. Indeed, here is evidence of Klein's more recent commentary, which is noticeably harsher and more focused on McCain's credentials.

Reached over IM, Klein responded to his inclusion in the mailer by saying: "I'm Ezra Klein, and I do not approve this message."

Okay, so Obama is not ready.

What are you going to do about it?

I have yet to hear McCain say what his plan is like.

After he loses in an electoral landslide, McCain is going to skulk back to Arizona and at some point, he will realize that this campaign has been a betrayal of everything that he once stood for. I suspect that it be will a very difficult moment for him and that it will linger for a long, long time. He was once an honorable man but sold his soul to the worst elements of the Republican Right wing. It's a sad testament to what blind ambition can do to someone.

Yes, he betrayed himself.

Perhaps he will do the honorable thing at that point and perform the Japanese ritual of Seppuku.

"A leader that has never lead" means a BORN LEADER, that is why it is the oddest of all creatures because they are so few and far between!

Take a step back some time and observe the two campaigns and then ask yourself which of these two is the true proven leader and visionary.

McCain claims "to know how to fix it my friends", (iow according to him his "experience" demands our unconditional trust) but judging by how he has lead his campaign I wouldn't say he is a leader, au contraire my friends, his campaign has (mis)lead him! So what has all his "experience" taught him?

On the other hand the leader who has never lead (quoted from back in 2006) has shown us how he would lead by leading a seamless, focussed, disciplined and unchanging campaign. His message has been consistent throughout and he has truly never blinked. When his supporters got nervous his hands were always steady and he never got off message! He has been focussed he has effected a straightforward and visionary strategy from beginning to end.

So "my friends" you can tell me you don't agree with Baracks policies but no one can truthfully state
that this man is not ready to LEAD!

jusion....do you think that perhaps you could have squeezed even one more hackneyed talking point into that diatribe?...or did you just copy and paste it from somewhere else?

Did jusion write a comment on this? I've gone back to the beginning and can't find anything with his name on it. Did it get deleted? Just curious as to what post you mean.

McCain has never really lead.....Many POW's didn't break. He talks about the Blockaid during the Cuban Missile Crisis he was awaiting orders, leading nothing.
He tells us nothing except he knows how to fix it....HOW!! its all a big secret! For heavens sake he has been in Washington a lifetime.

If you guys do not go vote and volunteer at your local Obama Headquarters to get the vote turned out to vote, Obama will lose.

We all know that the media is twisting with the numbers when it comes to the polls in order to keep up the ratings and keep us glued to the TV but understand this if you think that they are being honest about poll numbers your fooling yourself.

Get Out And Vote Or Obama Will Lose, Now Is Not The Time To Be Complacent!

Volunteer People And Help Get Out The Vote!!!!!!!!!!!!

what exactly has McCain lead on that was successful? and what's all this nonsense about having been tested? tested by whom with what? suely he is not referring to POW status. how did that show leadership? strenght maybe. leadership, readiness? I don't think so.

Exactly Theresa...I wish more people would see this as you see it! Surviving as a POW is one thing as it proves one's personal grit, mettle and will to survive, but has absolutely NOTHING to do with leadership. Having the skills, temperament, the ability to work with others, to compromise on differing viewpoints when necessary and having strong judgment to lead as POTUS and as Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces is totally another.

I agree. You know the saying, "never in doubt, often wrong"? That is John McCain. Obama has brains and when he doesn't know something, he goes to the best people to find out what they think. Now that is being a leader!
