Peter Frampton Angry Over Obama Sign Theft

CINCINNATI — Rocker Peter Frampton is wishing someone would show him the way to keep his Barack Obama yard signs from getting swiped.

The Grammy winner is complaining that signs showing his preference for the Democratic presidential candidate have been stolen repeatedly at his home in the upscale and predominantly Republican Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill.

Frampton, 58, is so angry, he called The Cincinnati Enquirer asking to be interviewed.

The British-born singer of "Show Me the Way" and other hits told the newspaper that one reason he became a U.S. citizen was so he could vote. Now, he says his American rights to free speech and political speech are being violated and it "bugs" him.

Frampton said he has installed a video camera to catch the thieves.

I have the opposite problem of Frampton's­...somebod­y PUT a McCain/Palin sign in my yard. I am a lifelong, diehard Dem, but hadn't received my Obama sign yet, so there was nothing out there. Needless to say, I am incensed and tore the bloody thing to shreds right there on my lawn. I have several Democrat friends on the block and, no, they didn't do it as a joke. Unfortunately there are Republican S.O.B.'s on my block, too. I think I'll let my teenager loose on Halloween. That'll teach 'em!

Is he surprised? Indian Hill is either the number one or number two zip code in the US giving donations to the GOP. You don't get any more Republican than Indian Hill. Why is he even living there?

People have been stealing Obama/Biden yard signs regularly here (a deep blue city in a very red part of our state). I've had 3 signs stolen so far.
So, locally we've started buying cheap generic Preparation-H ointment and applying it on about a 1 to 2 inch band all around on the outer edge of both sides of the yard signs as well as on the metal "legs" of the sign. You can apply it with a paper towel or disposable dishwashing gloves so that you don't get it on you.
The ointment is virtually invisible, and when folks try to steal the signs, their hands slip on the ointment and they usually can't grip the signs well enough to pull them out of the ground. Then when they try to drive off, since they have the smelly ointment on their hands, they get it on their car door handle and all over their steering wheel.
Also, putting large rocks around the metal "legs" of the signs discourage thieves -- it looks like the signs are better supported than they really are. You can use cheap Vaseline or generic Petroleum Jelly instead, if you don't want to mess with the Preparation-H. Since doing this, I've had no more signs stolen.
Just remember that the ointment is on your signs before you remove them yourself after the election..­.
