I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Faced with an overwhelming number of prominent conservatives receiving media face time for endorsing Obama, last night Stephen Colbert did the only sensible thing a prominent conservative egotist could do. He endorsed Obama. The move worked (as evidenced by the existence of this post) but Colbert also noted that in this terrible economy, the endorsement might come in handy after he loses his job and applies "to get a job running the combine at the new national farm collective" that President Obama would implement. Colbert also notes that he will still be voting for John McCain.

Stephen is just too danged funny.

Unfortunately there is a small portion who actually believe his character.

What did free-thinking America-loving Americans do before our friend Stephen got his own well-deserved show? Such laughs and right on the money satire are priceless and, in their own way, a great contribution to our democracy. Thanks Stephen and much love. My husband would have your baby if he could :-)

He is from the city which sat out, in order, the Revolution, the Civil War and Prohibition largely uninterrupted due to the priority they placed upon the fine art of serious libation. Stephen's hardly even remarkable down there in the midst of his kind.

There was an epiphany at the end of this bit - "McCain should endorse Obama!"

Before he decided to try to become George III, the old McCain was just the type of maverick who would endorse a Barack Obama - a man whose measured and reasonable policies actually mirror most of the ones McCain used to stand for.

LOL, James4Truth :) I think you may be right. Maybe he'll make up a new pic of him and his 'new black friend." And like someone else mentioned, what would we do without Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to bring some comic relief during these nutty times? But it's just like Stephen to endorse Obama, then make us pull out our hair as he says he's still voting McCain!! lol...

He'll definitely be voting for Obama/Biden because he has a pulse and a measurable IQ. :p

Between Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, I get the hard facts and the truth ; Jon and Stephen give it to us tongue-in-cheek...And between all of them I end up learning a lot by the end of the day, while getting in some much needed laughs...

Peace!

Whoever wrote the column for this piece and called Colbert a "prominent conservative egotist" obviously doesn't know Colbert. Colbert is as progressive as anyone can be.

He has done as much as anyone to spotlight the stupidity of the GOP. Even his claim to vote for McCain was the best part of the joke, for those who know Colbert's humor. He wouldn't vote R if it were to save his legs.

Good piece Stephen. Hopefully, McCain will take your advice and endorse Obama also!

You are confused. There are 2 Stephen Colberts

Stephen Colbert the person

and

"Stephen Colbert" the character

The article was referring to the character.

This guy is too smart to vote for McCain/Palin. I bet he votes for Obama. $5 bets....

"I am reminded every day that I am not a perfect man. I will not be a perfect president.
But I can promise you this, that I will always tell you what I think, and where I stand.
I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you when we disagree. And most importantly, I will open the doors of government and ask you to be involved in your own democracy again."
-Barack Obama.

" I fully expect a bestselling piece of social and political analysis to come out within the next decade called "How Jon Stewart Saved Democracy."

Because he, Colbert, and a few others...they did. "

so true.

Olbermann did it for me. He did a lot to help derail Hillary, too.

Colbert is great. His satire swings both ways in one joke. Brings out the irony with both Dems and Repubs. He's a guy that can make both sides laugh.

A non-partisan comedian, so to speak.

However, it is mostly Dems who do the laughing because Repubs really don't seem to have much of a sense of humor; too much God.

God has always had a way of stifling the humor. At least he always did when I was in church as a kid. For some reason, every time I laughed in church, I got pinched. Things got very un-funny when God was around.

Thanks Colbert for bringing the stinging irony and biting humor to the independents, partisans and non-partisans. It's greatly needed.

I wonder how many slacked-jawed Republicans watch an occasional clip of Colbert and nervously mutter to themselves, "I don't get it."

Oh guaranteed. And it's not just his supporters. Recall that the idi ots in Bush's admin honestly thought Colbert was actually a Republican, and had him as the keynote speaker for the Correspondents Dinner.

WHOOOOPS!

If you ever want to cry laughing, watch the address or read the transcript. Absolutely priceless.

The funniest part of that was seeing Bush get soooooooo uncomfortable with the truths spoken through humor.
