Washington Post:

WITH THE presidential campaign clock ticking down, Sen. John McCain has suddenly discovered a new boogeyman to link to Sen. Barack Obama: a sometimes controversial but widely respected Middle East scholar named Rashid Khalidi. In the past couple of days, Mr. McCain and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, have likened Mr. Khalidi, the director of a Middle East institute at Columbia University, to neo-Nazis; called him "a PLO spokesman"; and suggested that the Los Angeles Times is hiding something sinister by refusing to release a videotape of a 2003 dinner in honor of Mr. Khalidi at which Mr. Obama spoke. Mr. McCain even threw former Weatherman Bill Ayers into the mix, suggesting that the tape might reveal that Mr. Ayers -- a terrorist-turned-professor who also has been an Obama acquaintance -- was at the dinner.

For the record, Mr. Khalidi is an American born in New York who graduated from Yale a couple of years after George W. Bush. For much of his long academic career, he taught at the University of Chicago, where he and his wife became friends with Barack and Michelle Obama. In the early 1990s, he worked as an adviser to the Palestinian delegation at peace talks in Madrid and Washington sponsored by the first Bush administration. We don't agree with a lot of what Mr. Khalidi has had to say about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over the years, and Mr. Obama has made clear that he doesn't, either. But to compare the professor to neo-Nazis -- or even to Mr. Ayers -- is a vile smear.

Maybe GOP should change their slogan to:

VILE SMEARS FIRST
Back-peddle later - but only if we have to.

I thought that was their slogan!

McCain has nothing to offer so he and his advisors have to resort to the most vicious and vile smear campaign ever in our political history so McCain can appear to have something going for himself. What McCain and his advisors fail to realize is that the majority of Americans have a brain and can see through his lies and deceit and absolutely have no respect for McCain as a person let alone as a potential leader of our country. His campaign, as well as his running mate, have shown an ugly, violent, ignorant side of America and any moral self-respecting person would find this behavior disgusting. So much for ethics, values and integrity. McCain thinks he can act like an immature fool and hope to get elected on myths created by a warped group of advisors who resort to spreading lies.

+++ATTN: HuffPo DEMS, INDEPENDENTS AND OBAMACANS AGES 18-35+++

David Plouffe, Obama's brilliant, wonderful, kind and handsome campaign manager gave an interview this week on the Ed Schultz show on AAR. He said, "We are going to win this!", (of course), and "This election will be decided by the turnout of the youth vote and the new vote. It is all riding on them. We want the biggest turnout in history!"

So please vote EARLY if you can! That means today! Once you have voted, call all of your friends and remind them to vote and offer to give them a lift to their polling place. This is the most important election of our lifetimes! Please take this as a friendly reminder. After all, I was young once...

Here is a terrific pic of this bright and shining light, David. I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of him in the Obama administration..:

So am I to assume that they are done with the socialist accusations since that didn't work? I can' t keep up with their tactics! They change as often as Palin changes her designer clothes!

They just don't get it and they never will.

Honestly, if by some slim chance McCain were to win this election, he would never be my president! There's nothing presidential about him. And how does he expect to reach across the isle and work with both dems and reps? No one has respect for him any more and he's totally lowered himself! He would enter the whitehouse with a lower approval rating than Bush had when he left!

His commercials, indeed his entire campaign, are like the behaviour of a desperate madman.

Has anyone brought up Olbermann's find that McCain was in charge of some Republican institution that gave Khalidi over $400K in 1993 or so? Wish I could remember the facts, but there McCain goes again, throwing stones at glass houses.

Yes. Arianna and this fellow went after Michael Medved on Larry King's show about this smear. Ms. Huffington and the fellow showed Medved no mercy.

I prepared this email to send to a friend who continues to send me the Obama rumors via viral emails. One included Obama's terrorist background, hate for Israel, and friendship with Khalidi.

Re: McCain's own relationship with Rashid Khalidi

I found this information from the article, "McCain Funded Work Of Palestinian His Campaign Hopes To Tie To Obama" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/28/mccain-funded-work-of-pal_n_138606.html

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one [grant] worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.) (Link to PDF article is in the article referenced above.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now McCain's "good friend" Rudy Giuliani has linked Steven Ayers to John McCain via Rashid Khalidi, a three degrees of separation scenario. Giuliani just never knows when to shut up.
Someone else can look this story up if they want.
It's actually William Ayers!!! But good email! I've had to send out more than a few of these emails. Funny, I never get an answer back!
STUDENT VOTERS GO FOR OBAMA BIG TIME
By Kevin Harden, The Portland Tribune, Oct 29, 2008,
State and national mock election results tilt heavily toward Democrats
Democrat Barack Obama was the overwhelming favorite for president of the nearly 57,000 Oregon students who took part in this year's National Student/Parent Mock Election.
Students from about 300 schools across the state voted for Obama over Republican Sen. John McCain by a 67 percent to 28 percent margin.
National results released Thursday afternoon on the mock election Web site, www.nationalmockelection.org , were similar: of the 2.41 million student votes cast, Obama received 61.42 percent to McCain"s 34.8 percent.
Everytime you register, they take you away from the article you were trying to read.
Then they want you to fill out a bunch of personal information, which is all "required". And, of course you need to make a password, which should be different than any other password you have anywhere because of all the people on the web trying to steal your identity. Some of them also want you to create a username, which can't be like anyone else's username so the first 20 tries you get "sorry, that name has been taken" until you finally pick a username that you will never remember.
Then they send you an email you have to click on, so you need to go to your email account and click on the link in the email to make sure that you aren't someone else trying to sign you up for the registration. This lets you start t look around the site trying to find the article you wanted to read, except you can't without going to the site you linked from, and now you have to remember all the info again.
Except it's too late, lunchbreak is over.
McCain attacking Obama is more like the weather than the news.
It's not even an interesting weather report these days. McCain is a paper tiger and his campaign gets sorrier and more hopeless by the day.
He gives us another utterly unqualified running mate AND devotes their money to the utterly unjustified smearing of a decent and honorable candidate and somehow he expects to be trusted with the highest honor we have to bestow? This is only explained by a messianic zeal for military command as if no one could save America but John McCain and therefore whatever he has to do to the country is justified if it lets him 'win'. We've seen this movie before.
