I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill Kristol knocked his own paper, the New York Times, on "The Daily Show" last night, and repeated his prediction that John McCain will win the White House on Tuesday.

Jon Stewart joked with the error-prone Kristol, who he has mocked before, "You can't look at past performance as a predictor, otherwise you wouldn't be, obviously, still a pundit."

"You're reading The New York Times too much, Jon," Kristol told Stewart, only for Stewart to remind him that he works there. "Oh, it's a very fine newspaper — on one day of the week."

Kristol also predicted that McCain would "win huge," but that even if Barack Obama does pull it off, he ill be a "conventional" president."

Kristol, an early supporter of the then unknown Palin for vp, is more responsible than almost anyone else for the blowup of the McCain campaign and the outright derision of many, including high level Republicans, to Mac's vp choice. As a strong supporter of the Bush wars, Kristol, like Mac, continues to cling to the bitter end to the disastrous hard ass, take no prisoners military policies. Now, hopefully we're at an end and done with such advisors who have continually misjudged the world and contributed mightily to our current disasters.

Kristol would be proud. To be a neocon, is by definition to be proved wrong by history and events. This guy is dumber then dirt, and why the NY Times has him on staff, I don't know. It's probably the novelty. People read his articles because they despise him, and then they can complained to the paper. It probably keeps them involved!

If I never have to see Kristol's smug facade again in my life I think I may go back to church with my mother on Sundays.

Right at the end Stewart missed a chance to punch Kristol in the mouth - when he pulled out the Republican foreign policy myth. That crap is on the junk heap just like the Republicans and fiscal responsibility, small government and family values. They got nothing but what they started with - lies.

I think the news from this clip is that Jon Stewart would have voted for John McCain over Al Gore in 2000, if McCain had won the Republican nomination instead of Bush!!! Are you joking?? No, unfortunately, Stewart was dead serious. It's pathetic that someone like Stewart would think that the McCain of 2000 was significantly different from the McCain of 2008. They were/are the same person. McCain in 2000 was as conservative, as anti-choice, as angry and as violent a gambler, the same man who crashed 5 planes, who was married to Cindy the Beer Distributor, who angered families of MIAs, etc. What is Jon Stewart talking about?? The truth is, Stewart is not as bright as his writers and video-clip compilers would lead you to believe.... But then again, a significant number of idiots on the left voted for Nader instead of Gore, which set this whole tragedy since 9/11 in motion. Still, I'd take Nader over McCain anyday, Mr. Stewart!

Given that we know significantly more about McCain in 2007/08 than we did in the run-up to 2000, there's really nothing sneer-worthy about Jon Stewart's comment. Many a time I lamented that the race wasn't between Gore and McCain because, though I was always going to (and did) vote for Gore, I wouldn't have been disappointed with a McCain victory... presuming that McCain was ever truly real.

And as far as Nader goes... well, he's the reason we've had eight years of George W. Bush. Anyone who cast a vote for that man in 2000 should go crawling from door to door begging the forgiveness of those who voted for Gore.

I voted for Nader, because he was right. Gore was running as a member of the DLC, which means Republican Lite aka Joe Lieberman ilk.

McCain did not crash five planes. That is a myth. Everything else you wrote is absolutely dead-on.

Welp, that's all folks. m.c.c.a.i.n has the Kristol prediction, and we all know what that means. If Kristol called it for him, it will be o.b.a.m.a by at least 50 EVs

Bill Kristol

Another man of unquestionable character supporting McCain.

And for Bill Kristol, when I say "unquestionable", I mean "utterly contemptible slimeball".

What a roster supporting Johnny Drama. Kristol, Buchanan, Limbuagh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Cheney, T-Boone Pickens...

A regular fertilizer plant.

T. Boone Pickens has endorsed neither Barack Obama nor John McCain.

It's all over. Once Bill Kristol has called it for McCain you Obama can't lose.

I will say that, that made me like Bill Kristol more. But the interview just shows that even he doesn't believe half the stuff that he writes. He is just just another talkinghead/ spinner. If he seriously believes that if Palin had been just handled better, she'd would have turn to a net plus, he's clearly delusional. How do you present someone who, doesn't know what she's talking about in foreign policy, has little grasp of the economy, and presents herself like a teenager, to the American people and not expect her to be scrutinized? What, is she gonna say "I may not know much about any of these things, but I've got management experience?" Clearly preposterous.
Kristol seems likable enough, but the man is clearly nothing but a GOP sycophant. Only when he realized there was wide agreement of John Sidney McCain III's campaign tanking, did he begin to speak a little more of his mind to give advice to McCain/Palin's flailing campaign. Course that's much like all the liberal sycophants giving Barack advice only when he was down in the polls.

I watched the show, and I've got to say that the way that he delivered his comments about 'keeping hope alive' about McCain's chances made it seem to me that he doesn't think that there is the remotest chance of a McCain victory.

It was more like 'I'm a Republican, and as a Republican, I think that it would be poor form to desert the sinking ship that is the McCain campaign.'

Just my .02

I will say that I disagree with Bill Kristol on almost every issue, but I do give him credit for coming on The Daily Show. He always seems like a good sport. He is never someone we should let influence policy, but credit is due when someone enters an arena that could be somewhat hostile toward them and preforms admirably.

I sincerely hope his dismissal of the NYT gets him in hot water. They already have a perfectly adequate in-house conservative in David Brooks whose column is actually worth reading.

Kristol has been so wrong most of the time that he has lost all credibility, at least with me. I loved that Stewart actually dissed him to his face on this point.

That is a beat down man. He had zero energy and enthusiasm for the words coming out of his mouth. Could not happen to a nicer guy.

isn't this the guy who has been wrong about everything for the last 15 years or so?

I certainly hope that Kristol is wrong, wrong, wrong....I'm not going to relax until November 5th...And as far as Obama being a conventional president...you would think that Kristol would want the next president to be strong, able to connect with the rest of the world, bring prosperity and peace instead of his (Kristol's) petty little statements.

Kristol was big on invading Iraq, he was big on nominating Palin, he was big on McCain going negative with the ads. In fact, about everything he's advocated over the last eigth years ended up a disaster. Too bad McCain and his top neo-con aides listened, but then these guys never learn, do they?

I did notice that as well. It bothers me to think that Stewart is anything but a Democrat. Perhaps he is rather an Independent. At any rate, I cannot imagine that he is a Republican now or ever. I love his show and don't want to boycott it. I can't.
