I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill Kristol knocked his own paper, the New York Times, on "The Daily Show" last night, and repeated his prediction that John McCain will win the White House on Tuesday.

Jon Stewart joked with the error-prone Kristol, who he has mocked before, "You can't look at past performance as a predictor, otherwise you wouldn't be, obviously, still a pundit."

"You're reading The New York Times too much, Jon," Kristol told Stewart, only for Stewart to remind him that he works there. "Oh, it's a very fine newspaper — on one day of the week."

Kristol also predicted that McCain would "win huge," but that even if Barack Obama does pull it off, he ill be a "conventional" president."

Kristol's McCain presidency prediction
is sure to keep Kristol's batting average at 1000
for being completely wrong every time up at bat!
congratulations!
why is anyone interested in what this guy thinks?
who continues to pay him for his crap?

Those comments were said in jest. If William Kristol could speak as honestly on Fox or in his columns then I would not find him so detestable.

Excuse me but did I just hear Stewart say he would have gone for McCain over Gore in 2000? Wow. I am finished the Daily Show for good now...

I don't know if he meant it literally, other than the fact that I don't think he was real happy with the Clinton administration. I think he felt they were too far to the right and Gore might have been an extension. I'm sure if he'd have known then what he knows now, he would have voted for Gore. No matter, it's all hypothetical anyway.

Elsie-
For what it's worth- Keep in mind that 1) John McCain of 2000 WAS a reasonable, clear-thinking, very likable, steady, persuasive and perceptive person and
2) Jon Stewart always seems to have good reasons behind his opinions. He is, if nothing else, an intellihgent, INDEPENDENT thinker.
3)Many other people have commented on how McCain has changed for the worse since 2000.

So by all means, STOP watching the Daily Show, If JS's way of thinking bothers you. But you ARE judging him a bit harshly, without a good reason.

I am not so sure. Bush unified the left. But once we get a democratic president people's positions are going to become alot clearer. I predict Stewart is going to be very hard on Obama, if he's elected. That is not to say that I myself would rubber stamp everything Obama will do; but I think Stewart's position on alot of things is probably to the right of Obama's. Just a feeling, from watching over the years. And I agree with previous posts - why did TDS give Kristol such a great platform? He doesn't rate the exposure.

I caught that too..
I didnt believe him when he said it and,
regardless, that in itself is
no reason to bail on him..

I don’t think Stewart is alone in his disillusion with McCain. People who were not core Republicans but would have voted for hi in 200 vs Gore. I expect there are 3 or 4 million others who would have thought the same way. Although after the McCain meltdown of the past months not many would admit it. Kudos to Jon Stewart for intellectual honesty.

I know that there are some who just expect anyone with a brain to endorse every Democrat but grow up. Just as it is not partisan bias to say that Obama over McCain is the most obvious choice possible in Presidential politics since Franklin Roosevelt vs anyone, or Anyone vs William Jennings Bryan, it is not ’surprising’ that a smart person would pick an apparently good Republican over an obviously lame Democrat.

Here is something that all people of good conscience, left, right or in between can agree on. Wouldn’t the 2000 Vice Presidential Debate have been better as a match to the death. Whether Cheney or Lieberman went, we would all be the better for it.

Swaying hand in hand “We are the world, We are the children ….”

After all these years, Kristol still hasn't absorbed Rule Number One for prophets of bogus belief systems: Only predict events so far into the future that people don't notice you are a serial idiot.

Jon Stewart has a rare gift where he's able to tear people a new one without being a prick about it.

Right, okay, it was tongue-in-cheek.

Another example of the hyperbolic headline writer for Huffington Post!

Even Kristol has limits!

But if McSame did pull it off, you know Kristol would be pointing to this interview and claiming he was right all along. That said, the man has started laughing at his own predictions. He's a clown.

"Kristol also predicted that McCain would "win huge," What is this guy drinking or smoking? Either that, or he is looking at the poll numbers in the Deep South.

I voted early in Texas knowing that the computer voting machines are extremely hackable but at least I don't have to worry about rooting for Democrats in this state because they are far and few between.

Real Clear Politics has McCain up by about 14 points in Texas -- close by redneck standards, but still a wipeout. Most of the Old South, including Texas which was one of the last states to integrate, are still fighting the Civil War. Texas will never forgive Lyndon Johnson for passing the Civil Rights Act during his administration so they will continue to punish Democrats forever because he recognized equal rights applied to all citizens, not just whites.

The 9-person Texas Supreme Court is all Republican and they have a stellar record of overturning about 82% of all jury cases, especially against those defendants who seek redress from corrupt business practices. Most of the state-held offices are Republican including both U.S. Senators and practically all House of Representative members.

The only excitement about Texas politics is which of the most corrupt Republicans will win and by what margin on November 4. After all, Texans seem to be oblivious to their 8.25% sales tax, toll roads and yearly 10% property tax hikes, thanks to a Republican-dominated political system.

I still remember a Jon Steward comment to Bill Kristol from an earlier appearance on the Daily Show -

"Oh, Bill, have you ever been right about anything?"

Good old Billy, war-mongering cheerleader, still batting a thousand.

This is excellent news. Kristol hasn't been right about anything in years. I'm currently working on a project related to TV and the early days of the Iraq war. Reviewing all the TV coverage, you could not find anyone, at each turn, so consistently wrong. And so confident!

Such is the criteria for the so-called experts who speak to millions.

Please tell everyone you know that the lines are going to be long on election day. The polls may "close" at 7 PM, but that means that anyone in line at 7 has to be given the opportunity to vote -- even if it means that they don't get to do so until 10 PM. Also, talk to an Obama poll monitor volunteer or phone the Obama office in your state 1(877) Obama __ (your state's initials) if anyone wants you to do a provisional ballot. Avoid doing this kind of ballot if you can, since 1/2 of them don't get counted.

Make sure to tell everyone that voting is on Tuesday, 4 Nov. There have been fliers with the wrong date being delivered.

He's wrong and he knows it. The Republicans don't want to win. They want to be able to blame the Democrats for the mess they have made of our government. If they win, then they will have to clean up the mess, something they aren't really capable of doing.

Something in my mind thinks he's wrong again.

He's been wrong since he and the rest of the PNAC crowd got the Shrub to invade Iraq.

What, you just stumbled across HuffPo?

Over-the-top, inaccurate headlines are the standard around here.

Huffpo follows Matt Drudge's sensationalist, out of context headline model.
