McClatchy:

U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan launched legal action against Sen. Elizabeth Dole's "godless" attack ad Thursday as a chorus of critics joined her in accusing Dole of crossing the line with the controversial TV spot.

...

A new Rasmussen poll, taken Wednesday after the Dole ad began airing, showed Hagan ahead of Dole 52-46. A new survey by Civitas, taken Monday through Wednesday, showed Hagan up by a smaller margin.

Good! It's time for these kind of tactics to stop working. It's like Plan "A" in the Republican playbook. they don't have a Plan "B."

..............shame, shame on Liddy Dole! I heard the "Godless" ad yesterday when the morning crew on KPOJ [AirAmerica in Portland] ran it. Since when she [Dole] isn't in D.C. she lives in Kansas, and is never even seen in North Carolina, its time for Carolinans to send her packing!!

Yeah, and some are having a late lunch........how ooogy.

Dole is Jesse Helms in drag..........god awful. She sure took the Red Cross for a lot of loot.

NY Times reported she had a yearly salary of MORE than $200,000 a year.

After researching, I've found Mercy Corps to be one of the few who actually give aprox. 93% of all monies directly to the cause.

Senator Dole said she received positive feedback from some people. I say, forget about the people Mrs. Dole; the only concern here is your SOUL. If you truly believe that running this ad to be re-elected would show you in a good light, I'm sorry that your soul has been sold. Christianity doesn't only come on Sunday morning at church. It's how you live your life on a daily basis. You cannot go to church on Sundays and then live like the devil Monday thru Saturday. As a resident from North Carolina, the more my friends and I talk about this ad, the more we realize that we're glad to see who the true Liddy Dole is. Thanks for showing us all. I cannot speak for everyone, but I know some of us know what's wrong and what's right. And this has past being wrong. It's just downright ugly. Stealing the election by lying doesn't do anything for anyone, the only people that are hurt are the ones buying the lies.

Do you really think if Liddy was worried about her soul she'd have been running the ad in the first place?

This "God" business is, was and always has been a smokescreen for Republicans. All that matters to them is WINNING. If winning means bald-faced lying about your opponent, then so be it.

If he even exists (which I strongly suspect most Repubs don't think he does anyway), the way Repubs look at it, God can take it up with you later. And God is a pretty lenient guy anyway-you can always plead that the ends justify the means, since you were always planning to do "his work" once you got in office anyway. And even if that doesn't work you've got the last resort nuclear option "get out of jail free-deathbed confession" card up your sleeve until your last dying breath.

Of course, Dole got positive feedback from "some' people...the ones who thought it was just fine that Bush sent surrogates out to slime McCain's young child; the ones who found it hilarious that the nefarious swiftboaters managed to destroy the credibility of military records and the honor involved in getting medals, all for the sake of getting a few dirty votes for a coward; AND the devotees of McCain/Palin who respond to their candidates' lies and hyperbole by screaming "kill him" or "off with his head" or "terrorist" about the opposing presidential candidate.

This atmosphere is fostered by McCain/Palin. How do they dare court such voters? Because it worked in the past. How is anybody supposed to respect Republicans who they behave like hyenas?

. People my age remember honorable Republicans like Eisenhower and Charles Percy. Those honorable ones have been replaced by Nixon, Reagan, the two Bushes and now McCain. Two of these 5 lied about selling arms to enemies and ought to have been impeached, and two more lied about everything. Now we have the guy who embraced the man who slimed his child, called his wife a crazy druggie and called him a brainwashed "Manchurian candidate."

Disgusting.

Once somebody figured out that it was possible to exploit racism and religion and win elections, the honor just seeped out of the Republican party. Does anybody seriously think that they can get it back by putting Palin in charge?

I strongly suspect that those who insist that you must subscribe to their faith are not so secure in that faith, but need to have it validated from outside. They may be in internal conflict about it but must at all costs hide this from themselves, and so if anyone (like me, say) expresses doubt they feel more insecure, deny iy more, and turn to rage to cover up.

Accepting Jesus as a "personal savior" seems to be a get-out-of-Hell-free card. Sin, repent, accept...presto! you are clean again. Repeat as often as necessary. Much easier than actually changing your attitudes and behavior.

Here is a letter submitted to newspapers in NC by the Minister at Kay's Church:

Dear Editor:

Kay Hagan has been an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro for almost 30 years. She is a ruling elder, is involved in a small group Bible study, taught Sunday School, has participated in mission trips, served on our Prison Ministry Board and various other ministry teams of the church. I know Kay and have worked with her. She is a person of sincere Christian faith.

A recent TV political advertisement suggests Kay Hagan is a “Godless American” and portrays her saying through a voiceover “There is no God.” I am compelled to say this portrayal is untrue.

If I were the pastor of Elizabeth Dole, I would also feel obliged to set the record straight if political opponents called her a “Godless American” and falsely portrayed her as saying “There is no God.”

This is not a partisan issue. First Presbyterian Church is a congregation made up of faithful Christian men and women who are Republicans, Democrats and Independents, many having served in local, state and national political offices. God’s politics are about seeking and serving the common good. I believe it is for the common good to know what is true and false about Kay Hagan’s faith.

Sid Batts
Senior Minister
First Presbyterian Church
Greensboro, NC

Please donate to Kay's campaign. I have although I can't afford it. Dole cannot prevail, NC and America cannot afford that.

A clear contender for one of the top ten most misleading and disgusting ads to run this election season. I'm glad the voters are supporting Hagan.

This would be why "religion and politics" do not go together...it is something the Republicans have never been able to get!! Mz. Dole deserves to lose and while she is losing it might behoove her to read the Constitution!
