UPDATE:
Watch McCain on SNL with Tina Fey's Sarah Palin

PREVIOUSLY:
WASHINGTON - John McCain is set to appear on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" just three days before the presidential election.

Aides say the Republican presidential candidate will make a detour from battleground states to the late-night weekend show that has been a must-watch for many during the political season.

Earlier this month, McCain running mate Sarah Palin and her impersonator, Tina Fey, earned "Saturday Night Live" its best ratings in 14 years. Palin's guest shot had been widely anticipated since Fey began imitating her a month ago.

McCain last appeared on the show in May, after clinching the nomination and while the Democratic primary continued.

McCain hosted "SNL" in 2002.

Check out McCain's "SNL" cameo from May, when he begged Democrats to keep up the nomination battle past the August convention. He also took a few self-deprecating stabs at his age:

So I guess "celebrity" is good when it serves your campaign. With the number of times Brittney Spears has been on SNL, you'd think McCain would be against that type of media. Wait, he IS agaisnt that type of media when Obama uses it. He's also against cutting defense spending when Obama suggests it. (Although McC mentioned it first 2 years ago) He's against the "Old Boys Network" that he says supports Obama (even though everyone knows the ol boys don't allow black people.) He's against earmarks except for the ones that make him and his friends more money. He against raising taxes-well, for the wealthy anyway.
Thank god he stuck to his original idea that Obama is wrong for using "celebrity" to win the election. Wouldn't it be great if Paris and Brittney showed up? The look on McCain's face would be classic.

With McCain, it will no longer be Saturday Night Live. Just, Saturday Night.

Just a correction to the headline....

The SNL Presidential Bash is scheduled for November 3rd, election eve, at 9PM eastern.

SO no OBAMA on SNL? Maybe they should have an "awkward" moment on the show.

Lorne Michaels is doing everything he can to help McCain in the closing weeks, as judged by last week which I turned off. Not for me, thanks.

He would rather lose the e rec tion than fail to star on SNL.

For SNL finale, sa rah not tina will run onto stage and sit on his fa ce.

So....? Lorne Michaels is going to give McCain free time just hours before the election? Edgy. You know....? I understand why a person making more than 250,000 dollars a year would vote the Republican tax status quo. The Republican taxes cuts are not enlightened, admirable or civic, but you can follow why a selfish, rich social-Darwinist might feel entitled. Why should I be surprised Lorne Michaels tosses a coin and probably isn't too concerned how it lands. Unlike the poor to whom this election means everything.

I am prognosticating / guessing that it will be SNL lowest ratings this year...as no one cares about McC.

Maybe he will bring Joe the faux plumber with him to keep the ratings out of the toilet.

Ben Afleck is host and he's no fan of McC. Maybe he and the others will do something in the beginning that will get their point across?

They were pretty light on Palin, and I'm sure they will be with McCain. McCain was funny in his last appearance in May, but of course he didn't write the material. Also, he isn't running for the President of Funny, just the President of the Freaking United States! This is the equivalent of a softball interview on Fox News. It makes them look all warm and fuzzy, which is appropriate, since their policies are fuzzy. Just because SNL can have them on to act like clowns doesn't mean they should. Let them come on after they lose the election.

I agree - let them come on after the election. I was looking forward to seeing Ben Afleck, but not watching tonight - I won't look at that sleezy old man giving his stomping speeches with no substance just hammering away at Obama. If this old man wins, I will be part of the country that will be very, very angry.
