ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — First it was Indiana Jones. Now it's James Bond's latest lady friend.

The Communist Party in St. Petersburg says Olga Kurylenko, the Ukrainian-born model who plays a Bolivian agent in the latest Bond film, "Quantum of Solace," has betrayed her roots.

"In the name of all communists we appeal to you, prodigal daughter of poor Ukraine and deserter of Slavic world," the party said in an open letter dated Oct. 21 and posted on their Web site Friday.

The Soviet Union "gave you free education, free medical care but nobody knew you would commit an act of intellectual and moral betrayal that you would become a movie kept girl of Bond, who in his movies kills hundreds of Soviet people and citizens of other socialist countries: Cubans, Vietnamese, North Koreans, Chinese and Nicaraguans," the party said.

Sergei Malenkovich, head of the party's regional organization, told The Associated Press that latest Bond movie is "an insult for Russians"

"In this movie they wanted to show that a Ukrainian girl sleeps with an American. It's a part of information and psychological war," he said.

In fact, Kurylenko does not have sex with Daniel Craig's Bond _ unlike nearly all other leading ladies in the Bond films _ only exchanging a kiss toward the end of the film. And Bond is actually a British secret agent.

The vitriol from the St. Petersburg communists _ an independent party not formally affiliated with the national Communist party _ is the latest to be directed at a Western film.

The party took great umbrage at "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," which features an evil KGB agent played by Cate Blanchett, saying the film undermined communist ideology and distorted history.

Russia has produced serious artists in all field of Arts and Music, Poetry and Literature.- Pushkin, tsvetaeva, Zamyatin, Gumilev, BabelI, Blok, Akhmatova of this century and past - Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff - all made their contributions to the world. Russia's culture and politics - the good and the bad had produced some of the world's greatest artist.

'am not film critic, but Kurylenko just started and have a long ways to go. She's got the Russian blood and may yet prove she's a worthy Russian actor, following her compatriots Oleg Menshikov, Mischa Auer, Olga Vladimirovna Baklanova, Tatiana Vasiljevna Doronina, Nikolai Fomenko, Igor Vladimirovich Ilyinsky and Evgeniya Konstantinovna Glushenko.

I'll take Kurylenko her before Jessica Simpson, who's film is being shown in Russia - a poor exchange coming from US.

I wouldn't count her off.

You were doing so well ( Akhmatova, great reference) until your ship struck a giant reef---Beethoven...... Russian???? I almost choked on my latte.
Also, Kurylenko is Ukrainian,

The Soviet Union educated her? It looks as if she was able to overcome that.

How about that Ukrainian genocide, eh Russians? I don't suppose you're teaching that in your schools yet.

"It looks as if she was able to overcome that."
REALLY doggone,
Lucky for the world a lot of geniuses were ably to take full benefit of their Soviet education, like Olya Kurilenko. People like Shostakovitch, Tarkovsky, Richter, Kalashnikov (;-) Barishnikov, Gorky, Sergey Korolyov. I won't even get into Tretyak and my fave Fetisov.

I got a question. Since the role is for a Bolivian person, why not hire a Bolivian woman to play the role? Ukrainians look nothing like Bolivians, sound nothing like Bolivians and probably don't know how to act like a Bolivian. ;o)

Gotta love the dorks who run Hollywood. This is as bad as if they would hire George W. Bush to play the role of JFK.

It's called acting. And the story isn't even true, by the way. So it's silly to say the character is really Bolivian, when actually she was born in Imagination Land.

Without hysterical depictions of Communists and Islamic Terrorists, Hollywood would have no bad guys and thus be out of business.
.
Many fail to realize how beneficial real Communists were to the USA. We had something to fight and therefore we were on our best behaviour.
.
As soon as Communism fell, we abandoned our principles and allowed fascist gang stalker racketeers to poison, irradiate and murder people without government interference. If the Communists had done this, we would have trumpeted it as evidence of our superiority.

As Sir Paul sang 40 years ago, "Well those Ukraine girls really knock me out."

American Communists did only one good thing that I can remember -- they publicized the plight of political prisoner Nelson Mandela before any American media learned to care.

Aside from that, they made apologies for Stalin and downplayed the misery caused by the Soviet government when they sent Soviet citizens to labor camps during the seventies and eighties for horrible sins like circulating hand-typed copies of the Sakharov's articles on disarmament. or for having a Baptist prayer meeting in the woods.

I knew someone who actually served three years in prison for circulating news about other dissidents who were went to prison. I met him. He's just a normal guy who did what in this country would be regarded as his sacred right.

American Communists ruined any good karma they might have accrued by sticking up for Mandela when they refused to stick up for the political prisoners in the Soviet Union.

You might not believe in religion, but do you really seriously support or even excuse throwing someone in a labor camp for seven years just for praying to God in the freaking woods?

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! As an educated American, I know that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did not distort history, it was totally accurate! Or at least as accurate as those Russian accounts that present Stalin as a great human being & Putin as a champion of Russian democracy.

Yeah man, it's good to hear from the old school commies in Russia. I was getting a little tired of the bling covered oligarchs driving Ferraris and listening to hip hop.

Seems to me that the St Peterserg commies went to the same schools as Palin. NEITHER one of them seems to know anything about who works where.

AND yes Olga was hotter than he ll in Hitman. The scene where she walks past Tim to the balcony and back is a jaw dropper. Takes my breath away every time.

Olga was pretty good in Hitman--not exactly a pro-Russian film; but it was an anti-corruption.

All I'm saying is couldn't they have taken issue with Indiana Jones in the same way that most of us did?

In that that movie really fricking sucked?
