I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Willie Geist

"Morning Joe" co-host Willie Geist set out to find McCain supporters on New York's famously liberal Upper West Side, putting on a McCain-Palin t-shirt and parking himself in front of the legendary Jewish deli Zabar's. He ended up finding one Republican couple, but not before being greeted with scorn and bewilderment by passersby, many of whom said that they didn't know a single person in the neighborhood who is planning to vote for John McCain.

Back in the studio, Mika Brzezniski and Mike Barnicle were deeply disturbed by the way Willie was received in the neighborhood. Barnicle said, "That is an important cultural piece, and it proves why so many people are so right — no pun intended — to really loathe so many on the left. Those people are so close-minded."

In Washington D.C., Joe Scarborough — who often complains that Democrats fail to see beyond the Upper West Side and Georgetown — said, "There's some really, really hostile people on the left who just think that they are intellectually superior."

If an Obama supporter tried to pass out literature in a pro-McCain/Palin area of the country, it wouldn't be 20 minutes before someone would physically threaten them.
Go peddle that “we liberals think we are intellectually superior" crap somewhere else. When you criticize someone for being smart you make being stupid and uninformed fashionable. That's how we got GW Bush as president. That's why McCain chose Palin for VP. Nobody thinks that you have to actually know anything to be President.
“I can see Russia from Alaska" How dumb do you have to be to believe that that is a foreign policy credential?
Stop telling people it’s OK to be uninformed.

Yes, and the Great Lakes are in Oregon, one of the more popular - among left leaners - of our 57 scenic states. It's a region that would likely exhibit tremendous economic well being today if only FDR had saved the country sooner from that nasty stock market crash in 1929. And what with the subject in question being born prior to his parents actually meeting for the first time during the Selma march, the apparent disconnect in all this is mere illusion, of course.

Any update on whether Morning Schmoe covered the Grosse Pointe Farms woman who denied children candy on Halloween, based on whom their parents supported for President?

Joe Scarborough and his side kick Mika Brzezinski will be very sad soon and I won't feel a bit sorry for them when their sky falls. Now as for Willie, I just feel plain sorry for him. He seems nice and out of place. Too nice to hang with those other two vipers. The ship with their ilk is going down with the election of Obama. Bye bye Joe, Mika, O'Reilly, Hannity & the fake Colmes, Rush, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, did I miss any?

It's clear you don't watch the show. Mika is always chided by Joe for being in the tank for Obama, which she never denies.

Did he ever don an Obama T-Shirt in a white southern neighborhood and high five the locals? Nope.

Actually he said he did a similar thing in the south , where he went to school. He said generally the people are a little more polite. So that'd be a "yep"

I agree with anthonylee. It is intellectually dishonest to parade yourself in an area that you know is not conservative, and bait people into speaking out against you; it's a game that they're playing, and they suck at it.

This was "an important cultural piece"? Sending this numbskull into New York neighborhoods with his McCain/Palin T shirt on over his shirt and tie to try and guage known Democratic voters response to their mortal enemy's ticket? Insulting the intelligence of viewers (and voters) is what gets/got the GOP in the dire situation it's in today, and that is: LOSERS! The whining, which supposedly comes from us struggling citizens who can't afford anything anymore thanks to Phil Gramm economics, seems to now be eminating from the right-wing zealots and their media mouthpieces (like the hosts of this program) who see their world crashing down around them. An important cultural piece is one which would dramatically affect the viewer emotionally, not a piece of partisan fluff designed to generate sound bytes and fuel right wing rants. I am so glad it's finally coming to a close and we can move on! Peace.............................

What Joe fails to recognize is that "educated" people (liberal/conservative) are frustrated and angry at how our country has been managed under Conservative Republican leadership. John McCain/Sarah Palin is a vote and affirmation for status quo - this is simply not the case, people are angry, frustrated and mad at the current state of our Union.

For Morning Joe to attempt to characterize these people's reactions as anything other than a disdain for the GOP and their respective agenda, is intellectually dishonest.

Southern Gentility amongst the educated class historically gave us subsidies for lynchings, Jim Crow, the secessionist Confederacy; which was done politely and with a smile. How dare Scarborough try to infer and suggest that the actions of New Yorkers are beneath that of Tennesseans (toupee must be on too tight).

You act like this is a bad thing :)

Yes he was met with scorn and bewilderment... the least qualified VP candidate EVER and an old man who has lost his charm and his dignity (along with his marbles...)

We've been ripped off, put out and deceived.... yes... SCORN!!!!!

Ya right.. let's try and put him out there selling Obama stuff in a right wing place. He would be lucky to get out without a black eye and many, many words that are not allowed on the network.. because that's their only vocabulary they know.. I mean look how the right wing talk shows, radio shows, Palin frothers are.. what a joke.

I can't believe the fake outrage created by the Morning Joe program. The people were not as rude or nasty as they were making them out to be. Also, generally speaking, Obama supporters tend to be more informed or educated than McCain/Palin supporters. I believe the term they used was "low information" voters during the primaries.

What I want to know is this, do any of the Obama supporters on the Upper Westside deny candy to the children of McCain supporters? I wonder what the Morning Joe program would think of Obama supporters that denied children candy based upon their parent's political choice?
