Barack Obama briefly stepped away from the campaign trail Friday to spend Halloween with his daughters.

That was so cute... little Sasha just wanted Daddy to take her trick or treating and it was normal... until I saw the SS and the convoy of SUVs behind them. But Sasha seemed to be having fun and that's the most important thing.
What a wonderful family.
it just occurred to me that they probably can't let her touch a single piece of candy obtained like this. so, it is all a photo-op. it's the motions of normalcy, after normalcy is long gone.
Doesn't every parent check their child's candy. My 7 yo son just hands his bag over after we return. I don't even have to ask. And don't we all just go through the motions on halloween, it is a child's dream come true, free candy. We just love watching our kids happy, right? And I love seeing Obama's kids happy, too.
I want McCain to be happy, as well. I just don't want him to be president.
How can it be a photo op if he asked the media to back off? And when they wouldn't, he and sasha ran away?
it takes your breath away. this guy is already the president. check out the bus......and the secret service detail, and the string of black suv's following them. "normal" is out the window for this family.
Out of all those people in the Obama entourage, nobody could remember the little girl's trick or treat bag? What a tragedy.
I kid, it was a very sweet video.
When I lived in Chicago, kids did not do door to door trick or treatiing. There are more organized parties because of the danger. You will see kids on the bus or subway in costume often going to a party. If you had candy to give, you give it to the parent or ask permission before you drop it in the bag. I live in a smaller suburban community now and its different. But for the years I lived in Chicago, my doorbell never rang on Halloween.

Barack and Michelle are going to eventually make the "kids are off limits" announcement. The same thing the Clintons did with Chelsea after they came to the White House.
But right now as a candidate he couldn't make that request.

A kid who's the child of the future President of the United States, that's who - I'm guessing the Secret Service had something to say about her carrying a bag into which people could dip their hands and drop anything....and considering the rot the republicans have been pulling, I don't blame them a bit.

Contrived - they have to have some kind of almost normalcy. And Palin's youngest daughter is walking around with designer bags and signing autographs. And MaMoose exclaiming "what ya doin'". You talk about contrived? She's USING her KID(S).
Yeah... when did you see any of the Republicans doing anything with their kids or grandkids? This man makes time for his children. That's "Family values." I can see where a Republican wouldn't recognize the real thing.
I hate he was bothered, but it makes me happy that this could be our new President.
I hope and pray he is safe.

Bullshit! Everybody is entitled to privacy. Even public figures.
He's been in the public eye 24/7 for two years.
It is commendable that he is a fierce protector of his children.
He has no problem with the world watching and has more than shown he can take it.
But he is still a citizen with a family and entitled to private moments.
He has made it clear that his children are off-limits.
They didn't sign up to be public figures and so he does his best to protect them.
Unlike Palin who parades her children around on stage with her for cheap political points.
He took a few hours out of a non-stop campaign to be with his daughter on Halloween.
That is not a public event.
Every human being, even public figures are entitled to privacy.
where is her trick or treat bag? is the secret service carrying it?

I'm not going to watch it - leave them alone to enjoy these times.
