America Blog:

Liddy Dole deserves to lose for so many reasons. But, in the end, Dole really did herself in with that "godless" ad she ran against Kay Hagan. Public Policy Polling's blog, (PPP is based in North Carolina) had this analysis:

It is pretty clear to me based on our polling this weekend that Kay Hagan will be headed to the US Senate unless something very bizarre happens in the next 72 hours. While numbers in the races for President and Governor are basically unchanged from last week there has been clear movement away from Elizabeth Dole, a sign that her 'Godless Americans' ad is blowing up in her face.

You have a right in this country to not believe in God if you so choose. I find it pathetic that you would have to defend your beliefs no matter what they are.

People fear what they don't understand and Christianity is the epitome of that statement.

Does anybody else think she looks a little too much like The Joker in this photo?

Hi kelly,

He shouldn't be, but he has been used as such for so very long. Personally, I like the idea of a Jesus, but that God guy is the epitome of evilness.

I am so glad that a large majority of Americans are finally seeing through the fearmongering, hateful rhetoric of the Republician party. I don't understand; how can people who claim to be christians be so hateful and mean? To me the Republicians--who claim to be conservative and christians portray the actions of the people who were against Jesus Christ; they are so mean and heartless. On another note, what happened to her face--plastic surgery gone wrong?

All politicians who wave THEIR bible over others should be voted out of office. It is simply not the American way.

Poor folks who got saddled with Senator Dole. God ain't too happy with this snake lady.

She's creepy and she's spooky ... a little more than kooky. Look at this wreck ... you can feel the hatred.

Retire the hag ... amazing how badly we've selected leaders in some areas but we can VOTE many of them out tomorrow.

The NeoCon/GOP/Republican brand is sick, ill and warped. Liddy is a sad biddy.

The story here is that Americans are caring LESS and LESS about the whole "god" connection.

We not only have freedom OF religion but we also have freedom FROM religion.

First and African American president, then maybe someday and Atheist or Agnostic president. That would REALLY demonstrate we've grown up.

I don't think it is that Americans care less...it is that the smarter ones are catching on to how the godless manipulative Republicans have used people's faith against people's own best interests.

Great point...all the meanwhile, the real points impacting our lives more than anything were always overlooked - the economy, the infrastructure, the war, etc., as it always came down to fearmongering and/or Christian issues in the forefront. I believe also that what we have ssen within the last two weeks is also many Republican candidates, spokesman, etc, taking the religion/fear cards to whole new extremes, to the point where they clearly can be seen for blatant false attacks that they are.

Well, thank God for that!

My fellow North Carolinia voters are showing unusual signs of political sanity this year. I don't quite know what to make of it yet, but I think I like it.

A Plea To My Neighbors - Everywhere

I grew up in Mississippi in the 60’s when the powers dominating politics and social norms perpetuated fear and hatred to maintain the status quo. Prevailing mores allowed a climate of suspicion and fear to permeate everyday life, magnetizing violence throughout the south. Misguided people thought they were preserving traditions in attacking civil rights leaders and workers, and even innocent children, to protect the “way of life” of the white majority. The turning point for Mississippi was the tragic death of three young civil rights workers in Philadelphia in 1964. Well-meaning people in Mississippi were horrified and screamed a collective “Enough!”

Enough of the politics of fear, allowing violence. Enough implying guilt by association. Enough of the language of hatred and division. After that tragic event, Mississippi began a long journey to heal itself of the horrors of violence. It has made great progress and is a different society now.

Observing the current political campaign in North Carolina, I am saddened and horrified that the tactics of fear, distrust, suspicion, and guilt by association are being used by national and state campaigns. Associating “terrorist” with an honorable and decent man, or “godless” with a Christian woman who is running for the Senate is not honorable, not right and indeed dangerous. A climate of fear and hatred in this state or in this nation, pitting neighbor against neighbor is dangerous. We should not tolerate this as part of the political process.

Sen Dole I am thanking my lucky stars you aren't my Senator. With as much time you didn't spend in your home state you deserve to lose this election. I am surprise you weren't voted out before this lady. As for that crummy Godless ad, how low can you go?? Pretty low it seems, thank goodness Kay Hagen fought back. Hope she wins.

Are Liddy and Bob coming back to Kansas? Or, did they ever leave.

Bob Dole never spent much time in Russell KS. My mother's home town is west of Hays. He/they always liked their Watergate apartment overlooking the Potomac River better.

Of course the dinners and parties with the lobbyists were fancier too.
