Obama Poised To Win Iowa In Landslide

Barack Obama is beating John McCain in Iowa by a whopping 17 percentage points, according to the Iowa Poll published in today's Register.

Obama gets 54 percent of the vote, while McCain captures 37 percent among likely voters, according to the survey.

If that kind of margin is reflected in what happens on Election Day, it would be the largest presidential margin in Iowa since Richard Nixon beat George McGovern by 17.1 percentage points in the state in 1972.

It was in Iowa the Obama campaign was born. Not of money, nor name recognition, nor endorsements. It was born out of the hard work of supporters. From the work done there, Obama, being the intelligent man that he is, learned the importance of the ground game, and throughout the primaries, showed that in markets that didn't require a lot of money, he could defeat the better known, the better financed.

Today, he has shown that by keeping his forces on the ground in areas he'd already covered, he could keep pace, and when the smear and fear campaign exploded from the Hate Talk express, the ground troops would carry Obama over the hate.

It's only fitting that in the state that started it all, Obama has his largest lead, and could end up with the largest margin of votes in Iowa's history.

Thank you early supporters of Obama. He wasn't my first choice (Biden was) but you saw back then what the rest of us have since learned. Obama has the temperament and intelligence to lead this country out of moral morass of the last 8 years of divisiveness.

I love Iowa!!! Moved from there to the great state of Wisconsin 8 years ago. My husbands family still lives there in Allamakee County. They are registered Repubs, voting for Obama this year!! That's huge for them!! I am so proud of Iowa!! Go Hawkeyes!!!!!

I was giddy when I read the Des Moines Register this morning! I was at the Rally in Des Moines on Friday - took over 100 photos! I went with my 82 year old father. He and I are still talking about the history making experience we had! I am proud of my fellow Iowans. I'm hoping the polls are wrong, however. I'm hoping for an even bigger win for Obama in Iowa than what they predict!
