Roll Call:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was forced into the middle of Sen. Ted Stevens' (R-Alaska) re-election bid late Saturday night after a senior Senate Democrat endorsed Stevens and called on voters to disregard his seven-count felony conviction.

In a bluntly worded release from his office, Reid warned that Stevens would not only face an ethics investigation but also expulsion proceedings regardless of his efforts to appeal the convictions.

I'd love to read this article, Huffpost, but I can't get the huge Ecodriving ad to go away. There was no "close" button, and it remained in place for something like 30 seconds--I gave up waiting.

He should also be "purged" from voter registration rolls.

I am not sure why this is being considered a "close" election. Real Clear Politics list the race hardly close:

RCP Average 10/17 - 10/30 Begich 52.0 Stevens 41.7 Begich +10.3

once again, the media is trying to manufacture a story to keep a controversy going!

Begich is up by at least 10 so lets bet him elected then we can deal ole' uncle ted.

Reid needs to think who would replace Stevens. I'd take Stevens over the sucessionist, tounge speaking, abuse of power stealing, no brain palin. She is a danger to the security of the US of A and all women and children.

Your comment is assuming a fallacy, that Stevens is about to be reelected.

Under an Alaskan law passed by referendum in 2004, if the US Senate seat becomes vacant, a special election must be held no later than 90 days from the date of vacancy.
This was in reaction to once US Senator, then elected Governor Frank Murkowski appointing his daughter, Lisa Murkowski.
Lisa got to serve out the several year remainder of Frank's term, and then, because she didn't do too badly as a US Senator, managed re-election. Some of that had to do with who was running against her as well.
Palin might appoint herself, but she would have to face election in 90 days if she wished to remain a Senator.
In Alaska, Palin's positives are still falling, and her negatives rising. Appointing herself might be the final straw, as it would anger many Alaskans.
If Palin had to face Begich in a special election, I think she would lose.

But the argument is moot, because Begich will beat Stevens.

OK, it's good to find out now, who the DINO's are, and it appears Sen. Daniel Inouye (Hawaii) IS one. He should be canned on his re-election bid. The Democrats In Name Only are worse than the Republicans in that they are STEALTH rethugs. Traitors, Benedict Arnolds, spies, turncoats, Tories or whatever word you would use to describe loathsome rats. I tire of the mixing of the two parties and what they stand for. For the life of me, I STILL can't understand the thinking of a poor to middle class citizen that would be a Republican't. Republicans are in that rarified air of being Aristocrats, CEO's, Dictators and Slave Owners. I guess the dumbed down rethug followers somehow think that the wealth will somehow "rub off" on them. I firmly believe that lit Red Exit signs were placed above escape doors to keep them from herding in the middle of a smoke filled room exclaiming "it sure is cloudy in here!". Education and Special Needs Initiatives need to be installed to take care of our unfortunate GOPer's, as they breath from the mouth.

I blame the situation on Reagan. Somehow he convinced untold numbers of Democrats that they should become Republicans. Apparently many voters were taken by his "charm". He repulsed me, but I saw the sway take hold over members of my own family. Every adult I knew growing up in the '50s and part of the '60s was a Democrat; now they are all senior citizens who have stayed Republicans. As if that party was looking out for their best interests. Even worse, many of them are reviling Obama and have been forwarding evil emails about him to me. When I fought back, in a kind way after begging them to stop and warning them that I'd send one of my opinion to every one of their's, they have now turned on me. Fortunately, these people all live in other states and I don't have to deal with them, but I don't like having a rift within the family.

I saw the same switch to Republicans when I stayed in the South for a few months. I assumed, wrongly, that there would be Democrats down there. Boy, was I wrong.

Let's hope some voters realize the error of their ways. Maybe GWB has messed up the country enough that some voters will switch back.

Please don't post links to sites which put up roadblock windows. Either they want people to read their stuff or they don't. If they make it hard, ignore them.

It goes to show that it is time for some democrats to go too. Inhoye is corrupt and he should be in jail with Stevens.

Let's not get too carried away with vote him out. Were are within striking distance of a 60 seat majority. The issue here is that Ted has been shipping oil to Hawaii so this is payback.

He's proven to be a loathsome Nisei... How could he have jointed that ol' boy club?

A convicted felon serving in the Senate.

What better symbol to represent how low the Senate has sunk.

I think Dueling should come back to Washington. Republicans love them some guns, but actually, Democrats are much better shots!

Actually every Senator that voted for the Iraq war should be considered a felon and removed from office.

Well that shows us what the senator from Hawaii is like. I have been hearing about him doing well with Obama, I hope Obama takes a long look at him wanting to help his friend Stevens.
