I Like ItI Don’t Like It

MSNBC will have hosts AND an anchor on election night, according to Chris Matthew on "Hardball." After Matthews and Olbermann got removed as official election anchors for the final debates, with David Gregory taking the role, the network announced their election night plans as follows:

MSNBC's Election Night coverage kicks off at 5 p.m. ET, anchored by David Gregory with Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Eugene Robinson at MSNBC Election Headquarters in New York. "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough will join to provide analysis based on his years of experience in the House of Representatives. Norah O'Donnell will report on the challenges facing the incoming administration...

But Monday Chris Matthews announced he and Olbermann are "hosts":

Please join me and Keith Olbermann as we host MSNBC's election night coverage, and there's nothing like it anywhere else. And David Gregory anchoring."

David Gregory??? Won't he be busy wiping McCain's tears away???

Ya beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing with the extra added bit that they would be wiping each others tears away. Or Dick holding McCain patting him on the back going...."there, there, people like you, they really do, don't take this so personally."

I think David Gregory is more fair than that. He was pretty hard on the Bush administration. I find him fair.

Keith and Chris were great together. But David can help mediate when things start to go amuck - but that's why we watch these 2 brilliant men spar with each other. Definitely not boring. But don't forget to have lots of Rachel and her partner Pat Buchanan. Love it. It will never be Tim but you guys help me miss him a little less. Make him proud!

I for one think Chris Matthews is terrific; he is such a natural political animal. He is so tuned in to every nuance of every story. He remembers every small detail of every election for the last 50 years.
He has a very sharp eye for detail, and he does not miss a thing. He's a good listener and brings out the best in his guests. Add to that his charm and quick sense of humor. He is a winner, and his show is fun and informing.

He acts more like an immature child. The insecurity he has about his colleagues is petty. He reminds me of a spoiled kid who never wanted for anything.

I agree. I think he actually likes his colleagues. I don't get the impression that he's in competition with them. He's a hot head and he admits it ... he gets all passionate about stuff and that's okay. You can tell that he truly loves what he's doing and that's engaging.

I agree. He is not perfect, but he is very smart and understands politics. He lives and breathes politics. I actually think that he would be the perfect host for MTP. He actually will go after the left and the right.

so glad if Olberman and Mathews were not on the desk, I would not watch it last night. The best part of the primaries was watching it with them EVEN when O lost

Believe it or not, I think Mika will end up with Gregory's slot. She gets on my nerves, but she does better than Gregory when she fills in for him.

Since Campbell Brown has perked up and shown that she has some guts, Mika has been stepping up a little bit more to Joe.

David Gregory needs to go, I'm glad Keith and Chris will be on tomorrow night!

I agree. David Gregory must have spent too much time in republican indoctrination camp. He thinks he's tricking his viewers into believing that he's being balanced, but his republican sympathies and McCain man crush are obvious.

I predict he'll be switching over to some other network where his kind of balance goes by the misnomer of "fair and balanced."

He'll fit right in.

I think Chuck Todd will take over MTP.....they say he is too combative off camera, Chuck Todd is the most like Mr. Russert, and he is uncannily nonthreating....a perfect person to hit hard punches when no one is expecting it....also who does not like him....he is so likeable

Mka? Are you serious? Noooooo Way.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Gregory will take over as Meet the Press host. And I don't think he's more republican than democratic, I mean he certainly never held back with Bush.

Mika is weird. She makes creepy noises under her breath when other people talk and doesn't stand up to Joe for what she'd previously said were her political convictions. She's trying to straddle the fence at this late date to further her career. WHY don't suits get that people are changing how they view the pundits? Mika?? NO better than anyone who hasn't got the gonads to stand up for their convictions.
Msnbc needs to see that they are the voice for the centrist lEFT nd commit. Otherwise, don't knock Faux.

Maybe it's the Ambien & vodka...

She was great 'til she started taking jabs against Sarah Palin personally... esp. the ones about working mothers.

It's a little weird the way she cowers around her father...

You're darned right both Keith and Chris should have a huge role in the election night. Those guys have worked tirelessly for years to bring truth to the American people and they're absolutely vindicated with an Obama win. I say let 'em speak all they want. Those two are honest-to-God heroes for a whole lot of folks!

Speaking of MSNBC the past two hours have had (in AZ) the "RevW" scare ad at almost every break!!

Seems like these networks need to look at what ads are being ran, Rep are making them look stupid with the shows they are running these in..Keith and Rachel!!

You noticed, eh? I was surprised that KO and Rachel would let them or at least protest them. I am disappointed in MSNBC and the others for running such a foul ad.

Those filthy ads are running on MSNBC here in Seattle, too. It is particularly jarring given the recent announcement of Senator Obama's beloved grandmother, Toot.

The republicans are crass, desperate, pathetic, and incompetent. If there are any undecideds left, the sleaziness of the new gop/Reverend Wright ads would surely move these undecideds to vote for Obama.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:01 PM on 11/03/2008

Would you rather have those ads running on a network where some uninformed voter might watch it? Or someplace where it will be harmlessly ignored, yet provide more income to pay Keith and Rachel?

From the Al Smith roast, I thought McCain had a thing against Keith - He must be really desperate, trying to convert Barack's base over to his cause....

David needs help he just isn't the right person for that spot, just like TB is not the right person to have been on MTP, NBC has been making some great (Rachel) and terrible choices these past few months. I know the loss of Tim is the main reason behind this he was the rock and in charge, there hasn't been anyone to step in to those shoes..even close.

Well, I guess the only good that may come out of this is watching Keith and Chris' offensively large skulls explode on national TV in the case that Obama loses

Chris Mathews is the biggest sexist boor on television. The man with Gomer Pyle grin has all these historical facts but does not have the intellect to connect the dots of the info he has. He is all gibbersih and misinformation. The sound of his flatulence has more intellectual integrity

"The sound of his flatulence has more intellectual integrity."

For the sake of those of us who haven't yet been as intimate with Mr. Mathews as you appear to have been, can we just agree to assume that you were merely engaging in a bit of subjective hyperbole?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:07 PM on 11/03/2008

Watch him for a while and see him try to connect the dots of the info he has. He claims Kennedy and Nixon were very fond of each. Well not according to the many accounts I have read of both of them. Kennedy on first meeting Nixon stated after Nixon had left ' Where does the Republican Party dig these people up?' Does not sound like a budding friendship to me and Nixon was obsessed with his hatred of the Kennedys.
