Election Results: McCain Campaign Manager On The Five Must-Win States

George Stephanopoulos writes this morning on McCain's must win states and his interview yesterday with McCain campaign manager Rick Davis. Go here to see a collection of pundits' predictions on the election.

Here are the six states to watch between 7pm and 8pm tomorrow night:



Virginia and Indiana after the last polls close at 7pm, Ohio and North Carolina after 7:30pm, and then Pennsylvania and Florida after 8pm.

These are the canaries in the coal mine.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis conceded on "This Week" that John McCain has to win five out of six of these states to have a viable path to the presidency.

He could get there by holding all of the Bush states -- Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina -- and losing Pennsylvania, and then sacrificing Iowa and New Mexico.

But he will then need to secure Nevada and Colorado and all the rest of the Bush states later in the evening.

McCain made a serious strategic error trying to flip the unflippable Pennsylvania, thereby spending less time in Ohio. He could have had a better chance here in Ohio. COULD have. Since McCain has spent so much time in Pennsylvania, Obama had deluged the entire State of Ohio with an unbelievable ground game. I think it was very bad "strategery".

I don't know where they are getting these numbers. I'm in North Carolina (Raleigh) the early voters where 2:1 Obama. Democrats registered are double those of Repubs. Unless something is going goofy around the rest of the state, I don't think the big Cities are showing McCain. The rally's here are by far bigger for Barack than McCain and Palin (she was in town Saturday and I guess had a big woman voter turn out).

other than that, it's been devoid of McCain. The McCain campaign offices are dark all the time, and no cars out front. I go by every day because of work, and it's a ghost town. I just don't know where they are getting these numbers. Fort Bragg? Camp Lejuene?

Go over to 538.com and look at the photos they've been snapping of activity or LACK of activity at field offices for BOTH candidates! There is virtually NO GOTV ground game for the Republicans this year! McCain/Palin headquarters' CLOSE EARLY. Obama/Dem headquarters on the other hand, are CONSTANTLY busy! FAR into the NIGHT!
