George Stephanopoulos writes this morning on McCain's must win states and his interview yesterday with McCain campaign manager Rick Davis. Go here to see a collection of pundits' predictions on the election.

Here are the six states to watch between 7pm and 8pm tomorrow night:

Virginia and Indiana after the last polls close at 7pm, Ohio and North Carolina after 7:30pm, and then Pennsylvania and Florida after 8pm.

These are the canaries in the coal mine.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis conceded on "This Week" that John McCain has to win five out of six of these states to have a viable path to the presidency.

He could get there by holding all of the Bush states -- Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina -- and losing Pennsylvania, and then sacrificing Iowa and New Mexico.

But he will then need to secure Nevada and Colorado and all the rest of the Bush states later in the evening.

Amen to all of that and more. While the Republicans are down we should give 'em a good swift kick and while we're at it tell the religious right to mind their own business. I'm sick of 'em all and resent having lived through eight years of stupidity!

I just want to mention how odd it is for the candidates (most notably, McCain) to talk about how we vote as a direct result of thier efforts.

"Sacrificing" New Mexico and Iowa??

No, mr. McCain. sacrificing them implies that it is up to you weather you want these states or not. We are not fooled. You are not Sacrificing ANYTHING. (integrity?? Hmmm.)

The PEOPLE of these states have decided to NOT vote for you.

Look, it's very simple; Kerry lost by 18 electoral votes in 2004. If my math is right, all that needs to happen is the following:

1. Obama needs to carry all of the Kerry states. The only one even "up for grabs" is PA, but that is leaning toward Obama according to the polls.
2. Obama is projected to win IA, which was a Bush state.

That leaves him needing a mere 11 electoral votes.

3. Win OH, VA, NC, FL, or MO, or any combination of 2 or more of CO, NV, NM.

As it stands, if the polls reflect reality, #3 is a done deal, as NM and CO are already in the Obama column. It looks to me like McCain can win all of the other 5 and Obama would still win.

You may have noticed that even most Republican analysts (e.g. George Will, CNN's Alex Castellanos) have predicted a fairly substantial win by Obama. Pundits are always careful to err on the side of caution. If you think of the margins they are giving, at least in terms of the electoral college, it is not hard to guess there is a bigger chance of a major blowout than of a McCain Miracle.

In light of the above, I will go on a limb and make a wild suggestion. Obama will by 15-20% in the popular vote.

The excitement level here in NC is unreal!! We've heard the message of hope and change and O is running ahead of Mac in early voting 2-1.

The preparation by field ops here is nothing short of unfrickinbelievable. As a poll monitor volunteer, I've never seen such a tight system to deliver the Dem vote, and to make sure that any and all problems are handled immediately.

We are not the same state that we were 4 years ago, and we are going to prove that tomorrow by making history with Obama!

McSame must win at least one "Kerry" state since Iowa, NM, and Colorado are looking solid Obama. He bet the load that Pennsylvania was switchable. Hopefully, the Keystone Staters are smarter than opting for four more years of war and economic death spiral.
