Politico:

CBS's Katie Couric asked Obama in an interview that aired just now about the Pennsylvania Republican Party ad using Wright, and whether he blames McCain for it.

"The McCain campaign has been pretty restrained on that front, and I think they deserve...credit for that," he said.

And he explained the decision not to respond to that and to another that's airing more widely.

Barack Obama has really taken a huge gamble by completely taking the high road with his campaign advertising. For every Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, there are probably 50 shady characters in McCain's and Palin's lives that no one will hear about because Obama has run what may be the cleanest campaign in history. This is one of the main reasons that I'm praying for the Obama/Biden team. Then possibly, not likely, but possibly the Republicans will take a good hard look at themselves and realize that the Lee Atwater/Karl Rove methods of slandering, lying, mud-slinging politics have to be ended. If McCain & Palin win, it will just go to show that the dirtier you are, the better chances are that you'll get ahead, and that will be the saddest thing that could happen to us right now.

Guilt by association -- the argument of those who have exhausted their arguments. McCain/Palin, even fully armed, brought a knife to a mental and moral gun fight. Let's pray they get what they deserve.

What Wright said is not what Obama said. Obama wanted us to forget about our sad history of slavery and look to the future. Wright belongs to an earlier generation that the racial inequality and inhumanity are still raw so if we don't join him to condemn what should be condemned, we should NOT condemn Wright either. To link Wright, or any other people, to Obama is a desperate act and most voters recognized that. McCain only waste his money, in fact taxpayers' money, on this kind of smears. McCain and Palin's Straight-Faced Lies Express! McCain-2008 and Palin: a double fraudulent act that even McCain-2000 would NOT approve of.

Yes, in South Central Indiana (Bloomington) where I live, I have seen the Wright ad about twenty five times in the past three days, without hyperbole. While it's an independent group who did it, McCain and the campaign have implicitly endorse the ad with their silence when confronted with the evidence. All it did was make me work harder for Obama, and donate 50 box lunches to volunteers going door to door last weekend.

Well isn't Bloomington happy? The number one place to visit if you are a ___(read todays Herald Times) and also the proud supporter a man that might win.

The beginning of the end.

Why is Rev Wright even an issue....do people really think that there has not been Black anger and anguish?
How silly....they are entitled to the anger and anguish...I bet all those people at the church and the REV himself are great Americans..but a tad angry at times....

He merely was speaking the truth...I am sad that he does not get to be involved in the greatness of the day with his friend..

The GOP is going down clinging to Wright and anger. They can't seem to let go of their ugly past which has failed us all. After all, they did have 2 chances to get it right. Here's to the looming mandate!

I hardly saw any campaign ads in northern NJ until the past couple of weeks - and I've seen the Rev Wright ad the most. No "credit" from me.

Equally as vile as McCain has been in letting the spots run...CNN, NBC, MSNBC et al are equally as unethical in accepting the money and running the commercials.

Obama will win! It is historic. A black family in the white house that slaves built. Yes, slaves were used in the construction of the White House. In the 50’s even after Brown v. Board, there were separate drinking fountains and bathrooms for Blacks. In the 60’s there were only three elected Black officials in the Black belt; today there are thousands. So we are seeing an amazing moment in American history.

This is not to say our work is done. Obama is not a progressive. But he is certainly more liberal than Bush and McCain. He will redistribute some of the vast wealth that has gone to rich in a county that has plundered its poor since Reagan in 1981. It will not be a social democracy, but it will better than what we had. The disastrous economic crisis is pushing him in this direction, but citizenry will need to keep up the pressure.

Obama has been disappointing regarding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. These must be ended and time is now; the time to revive our anti-war movement is now.

Obama has promised to close Guantanamo and end torture. We must hold him to that promise. He must end the kangaroo courts called military commissions.

Finally, he must appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the war crimes of the Bush administration: the aggressive war in Iraq, torture and warrantless wiretapping. In short he must bring America back into the world of civilized states.

William Gibson on the end of segregation, among other things
http://www.williamgibsonbooks.com/source/agrippa.asp
When the colored restroom
was no longer required
they knocked open the cinderblock
and extended the magazine rack
to new dimensions,
a cool fluorescent cave of dreams
smelling faintly and forever of disinfectant,
perhaps as well of the travelled fears
of those dark uncounted others who,
moving as though contours of hot iron,
were made thus to dance
or not to dance
as the law saw fit.

Two points here:

1. I'm supposed to give McCain credit for managing to resist the temptation to behave like a complete A$$H@#$. Imagine raising your children using this principle. "Oh Johnny your such a good little boy for not hitting Barack over the head with your hockey stick. Please!

2. Anyway it turns out that Johnny had his friend RNC hit Barack over the head with the hockey stick after all. RNC used the Hockey stick on Barak about a thousand times.

I live in Pittsburgh so I get to see the Rev. Wright garbage at least once every ten minutes. Nice going little Johnny.

Obama is trying to encourage us all to get over the hatred & divisiveness that the repubs have thrust upon us for so long. He's the true uniter. After he wins we need to work to end the 'us versus them" mentality in this country. We need to be as nice & understanding w/ the republicans as humanly possible. And forgive anyone who hasn't committed heinous crimes. And right now heinous is very relative. Use Bush, Cheney, et. al. as the basis for comparison, & if the person in question's crimes aren't in the same league, be prepared to get over it.

Peace INSIDE the US, as well as the rest of the world!!!

The Maryland and Virginia areas have been blanketed with non-stop Rev. Wright ads, since yesterday. So much for taking the High Road...

Funny, seems like preachers in America are constantly dividing up people, passing judgment, whipping up hatred. I don't see how Wright is any different from the rest of them.

Oh, yeah. Because he said our dumb foreign policy is what made the terrorists attack us. I forget what a controversy that is.

Why did they attack us again? I think it had something to do with Freedom Fries...

I'm a little more cynical. If McCain hits hard on Obama's 20 years with Rev. Wright, it goes against the repubs scare tactic that he is Muslim. I think they just decided to go with the scariest scenerio.

Why have we not seen McCain's dark skinned adopted daughter on the campaign trail? Why is he hiding her? This man's got some serious problems.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:11 AM on 11/04/2008

Hiding her or not "exploiting" her? If he brought her out you'd say, "see, he's trying to gain black votes by showing us he loves black people". You can find a way to spin it anyway you want. Where are Obamas white friends? He goes to a church with a pastor that hates white people. I'd rather be tied to a candidate that loves the opposite race than one that hates it. The only friends I see of Obama are black Radicals,Terrorists,PLO organizers etc..The Dems are going to have a lot of exlaining to do in 4 years for taking his side.

For starters, SHE AIN'T BLACK!!! She is from Bangledasch. Second, I am quite sure you haven't heard the entire sermon from Rev. Wright , so please speak of what you know and not what you heard on the rumor mill. Thirdly, please name the friends of Barack Obama and compare them to the friends of John McCain, and you end up with the same situation. People that were involved in circles where they were trying to make a difference. I am no McCain supporter, but I don't blame him for errors others made because he knows them. Grow up, learn to think for yourself and join us in this movement because my dear lihartke,
OBAMA IS GOING TO WIN!!!! God bless you and your slanted views, may you one day seek to find all that is true in everything you hear!!!!

You mean like Palin is exploiting her children?

Get the facts straight. McCain's adopted daughter is from Bangladesh, a.k.a. NOT BLACK.

But McCain has made sure to have his very Arayan looking wife and biological daughter with him at all of the rallies where the threatening comments have been made and all of the "he's not like us" speech was made. Guess he didn't have the n**s to let his adopted daughter see what he was doing.

As for Obama hating white people, you're apparently blind as well as mad. Most of Obama's staff are white.

Stop. Let's try this again: Rev. Wright served in the US military in Vietnam. He served in the LBJ Hwite House. He served his country and put his life on the line. You want to focus on the anger but not the source. It's that limited thinking that keeps people at odds.

Do you think there is no logical reason for African Americans to be angry with white people? Slavery, Jim Crow, Black Codes, Plessy, Dred Scott, Red Summer, poll taxes, grandfather clauses, the KKK, Georgre Wallace, David Duke, Aryan Nations, politicians with Klan roots, James Byrd dragged to death. Medgar, Martin, Till.

No reason for anger?

Black radicals. Are the somehow worse than the white radicals? Are they worse than the Alaska Independence party -- that wants to break from the US, and whose founded damned the US? That's OK for you, huh? That you can vote for?

Please get an education before you open your mouth again.

So true lihartke!

JMBrodie....anyone that states the facts about the terrorists, White haters, radicals.....you will try to attack and say they do not have an education. I feel like maybe you think you are better than others. Why?

Is anyone really better than anyone else?
