Politico:

CBS's Katie Couric asked Obama in an interview that aired just now about the Pennsylvania Republican Party ad using Wright, and whether he blames McCain for it.

"The McCain campaign has been pretty restrained on that front, and I think they deserve...credit for that," he said.

And he explained the decision not to respond to that and to another that's airing more widely.

I live in TX a red State. I have been avoiding TV because I am sick of the whole thing by now. I have still seen this ad twice tonight.

The more I see and hear from some of my fellow Americans, the more I agree with Wright. You can't treat people the way some are treating people, and do some of the things we have done and are doing and ask God to Bless America.

Thank you for saying what I've been thinking for months, now! When one reads the entire transcript of Wright's remarks (and doesn't just fall for the soundbites handpicked by the GOP for their own evil benefit) he speaks the truth. The Bible says that prophets are never accepted in their own countries; I think Rev. Wright will one day be viewed as a man of great wisdom who was ahead of his time.

when you're going down flailing, you'll do just about anything to survive. fortunately only republicans are listening.

After this dishonest and sleazy campaign he has run, John McCain will have to hold his head in shame when he returns to the Senate. The only friends he will have will be the usual far right extremists and Joe Lieberman. What a legacy!

And hopefully, 6-8 fewer far right extremists. :)

Very cowardly behavior to run these ads at the last minute. What, he can't stand up campaign like man.

These aren't the first time these type ads have been run. Did you just get on board? Hillary had BO pinned to the stake with this attack. This was a judgement issue in the primaries and still should be. She had to let him off after his , once again, very flowery-flowing, righteous, speach on race, or be branded a racist,( that's a great coin or card to have in your pocket).
By the way, what's happened to the ol' rev wright? Since BO denounced him, 8-9 months ago? where has he been? I haven't heard a peep out of someone with so much to gain from 15 minutes of infamy. No speaking rounds, no books, no world tour -- or, has he already received his just rewards? If buttered right, I'll bet $600 + million can be spread over a large area.

O'Reilly's investgation of Obama and Wright came down to Obama only attended the church for political reasons, not for anything Wright said. That's O'Reilly's interpretation anyway.

I know someone who went to that church and it is a black church made up of a lot of professional black people, lawyers, doctors, you name it. I was told Wright doesn't preach separatism but that blacks should be responsible for their communities. Many don't understand his tone of voice. I think that and the edited clips are what scared people.

No Credit! No Honor! No Clue! No Hope!

Here in TN, typically a reliable red state in the last few elections, I've seen this steaming pile of an add a half dozen times tonight. Some on MSNBC some on the local NBC affiliate during the SNL Presidential Bash.

It begs that one wonder if McCain isn't in bigger trouble than is being let on. Why advertise in reliable red states? Especially when a third of voters in this state voted early?

I smell a crash and burn coming...

Why am I subjected to this commercial? I've seen it four times, and there is no way my state hasn't already gone for Obama (we vote by mail.) I haven't seen any other commercial from either side--just this one. (Except for all of McCain's free showings on CNN of every outrageous commercial made.)

How Obama held off on going deeper on Keating five, KLA (and others) as well as Palin’s AIP connections and abuse of power charges, I’ll never know.

That he did not, instead responding again with unanswerable precision, will represent the beginning of the end for the reign of Rove as an effective shrew.

The Obama campaign deserves the credit.

Sen. Obama is ever so gracious. It proves that his grandparents and mother did a fantastic job. He knows full well that McCain really did nothing overt to stop all of the 527s and others from raising the issue. But, he doesn't want McCain's legacy to go down in flames.

Funny you should say that ... McCain is FLAMING as we speak!

It's a constant barage across the country of Wright ads .. during SNL Election Bash ... just to make sure we ALL see what a slime he is.

As long as McCain is still FLAMING tomorrow night, we can all rest easy for the next 4 years. Our peaceful rest will be aided by SP returning to Alaska. Thanks for the headsup on the SNL election bash.

Barack Obama is a gentleman and a class act--which reflects highly on his upbringing.

You are full of it. Why was he recently campaigning in Ariz. if he doesn't intend to humiliate McCain & the republican party? Obama change = sos, different candidate

Oh my god, what a RIDICULOUS comment .... Obama is running for President intends to WIN and he's doing it with class ... Arizona is part of the usa, not McCain's private territory! What nonsense!

If anyone is humiliating McCain ... it's Mc Cain ... his legacy will be how he couldn't lose with dignity.

Campaigning in Arazona is not the same as running sleazy ads and plain old li eing. Calling Obama a socialist, li eing about Obama's tax plan...lieing about what he said about Coal. McCain is slime...he has given his honor away, traded for an Alaskan biotch and a chance for power. He is not worthy of the honor that this nation has given him. He has proven that he can put honor on or off depending what is convient. You know what happens when you put salt on a slug?

The other good news is that if MSNBC is as "Liberal" as its critics claim most of their viewers are likely set on Obama, and know that Obama has distanced himself from Wright, so I would expect little impact. I was mad at Hillary for raising the subject but now I am so glad she did - the subject has been so beaten to death that it is old news to the rational.

Also I'm watching the SNL Presidential Bash and it was played once around 1015 EST.

McCain absolutely DID keep Rev Wright actively circulating during the campaign!

Mostly by making sure that the story circulated that he was not going to bring up Rev Wright (Who? You know, the controversial minister whose out-of-context remarks were looped ad nauseum on the mainstream media. What remarks? You know the ones: no, no, no, not God BLESS America . . . )

Of course, immediately after one of his surrogates managed to bring it up, the remark was quickly followed by the disclaimer: "But McCain won't let us talk about it." See how noble he was?

Also, I think he knew that if it were brought up, Obama's opposition research could probably pull out a whole host of things from McCain's creaky closet, in response.

I personally think that he wanted to bring up Rev Wright, just as he has, at the last possible moment, in the hopes that their attention, over the last weekend before Election Day, would hurt Obama. I’m so thrilled that most of America has grown beyond that.

Any UNDECIDEDS out there? Ask yourself, which candidate would you want to teach YOUR children about how to run for President of the United States?

I've been a Christian for most of my life. Sometimes I just believed, sometimes I questioned. Increasingly, I have paid attention and wondered about many things uttered from the pulpit. I have heard many things from the pulpit that contradict the Bible itself, that contradict the teachings of Jesus. But I kept going. It's hard to uproot yourself from a church, even it you have outgrown it or disagree with much of its doctrine. So I am not swayed by the Rev. Wright controversy.

I have heard many pastors condemn America for its sinfulness. So what. When is religion supposed to be cozy with earthly kingdoms and governments. A Christianity that never pointed out America's hypocrisy and decadence is not doing its job, and should be viewed skeptically. So WTH? This is a non-issue.

If the issue were the "legitimacy" of what Rev Wright said from the pulpit, then I would agree with you, it is a non-issue.

But the real issue being brought up is "Scarey black man, hidden rage, and roosting chickens. Dare we take a chance?" And that's the card that happens to play well in many parts of "the real America."

Fortunately, this time enough people have decided to use their eyes, and ears and hearts and minds. And VOTES.

Can't say much more; for some reason many of my posts on this subject get deleted.

No need for McCain to dirty his hands when his surrogates are running Wright 24/7.

What a crock.
