Shadegg

Phoenix New Times:

This just in: Congressman John Shadegg's campaign appears to be using some pretty shady surrogates. ...

As first reported on the Politico Web site, the Shadegg campaign has paid at least three men with dubious pasts to work its phone banks. One guy, records suggest, did two years in the Arizona Department of Corrections for vehicle theft and burglary. Another did nearly four years for burglary. And the third phone bank worker may well be the creepiest: This 24-year-old male is a registered sex offender who had "sexual contact with a minor," according to the state's registry. The state labels him an "intermediate" risk.

They like to start their executives at the bottom of the corporate ladder and let them feel their way up.

Good move, Shadegg. What are their talking points:

1) Vote GOP or we'll steal your auto.
2) We're really REFORMERS

And why wouldn't he hire someone like this? Or have you forgotten what the GOP is really all about?

"But when they do their time, do we now punish them for life?"

As a sex offender I can tell you that yes, yes we are punished our whole lives.

I was a senior (had been 18 for five weeks) in high school and had consensual sex with a freshman (15 turned 16 two months later). I am now a sex offender until I am 78 years old even though I completed all court required supervision over a decade ago.

Why I still owe any obligation to the state at all after completing everything asked of me by the court is a complete stripping of my rights as an American.

Sex Offenders are typically not dangerous or repeat offenders. People who were violent in their crime or repeat offenders are Sexual Predators. Yes there is a massive difference even though the media uses the same name for both groups.

I sympathise with your situation.

Thinking back to my own high school days...well let us just say that strict enforcement of today's sexual predator laws would have landed approximately half of the males and a significant percentage of the females in my graduating class in your exact predicament.

Certainly, almost everybody on the sports and cheerleading teams...

Once upon a time, it was a point of pride to "be dating a senior"...and when you "bagged" (in the parlance of the times) the guidance counselor, it was a victory, not a victimization.

People have gotten weird.

Ok. I gotta say "So?" If these people did their time, I don't see how demonizing someone for giving them a job doing "honest" work is a problem. And for any Dems to criticise him just makes you look hypocritical too after the years of Dems supporting the rights of offenders who had done their time.

Typical Republican comments. If it would have happened to other side we would see this story 24/7 on Fake News. Double standards = hypocrites!

republicans politicians and the characters they associate with ....

lets see if any ultra conservative moral values republicans cast any aspersions on Shadegg or is their feigned outrage at associations only reserved for their political opponents?

So, people who are reforming should be able to work. If you don't give them a chance and throw them away, then they will go back to crime or worse.
01:25 PM on 11/03/2008
Yes...but the hypocrisy here is that...sex offenders...are one of the ultimate target groups which republicans have always ruthlessly attacked and legislated against both to keep their constituents terrified....and in order to win votes.....

....birds of a feather.....
