Black Panther

Fox News' Rick Leventhal reported live from the polling place where Black Panthers were allegedly intimidating voters Tuesday afternoon.

A University of Pennsylvania student reported that a Black Panther wielding a "night stick" intimidated voters at a polling place in Philadelphia (video below). The Black Panther allegedly claimed he was "tired of white supremacy." An Obama volunteer on the scene disputed this account, saying there was no intimidation of voters occurring at the polling place.

When Leventhal went to investigate, he got into a confrontation with a Black Panther — a certified poll watcher — who denied the story and told Leventhal in no uncertain terms that he was not welcome at the polling place. Leventhal disputed his claims, citing election law which allows him to be within 10 feet of the entrance.

Leventhal could not confirm that the Black Panthers were on the scene intimidating voters, saying, "There's been no disturbances that I'm aware of, except what we've encountered here. But again, I want to make very clear, we don't know that any voters were denied entrance to this polling facility. We don't know that anyone was intimidated to the point that they decided not to vote here, but that was what some people were concerned might be happening with two Black Panthers, one of them holding a nightstick, out front."

President Barack Obama.

Vice President Joe Biden.

And I still love ya, no matter who you support or what you think.

Thank you to everyone who voted and especially those who voted for out CURRENT president, Obama, and all those who worked so hard to get us here.

The privileged folks at UofP have their own polling places with abundant voting machines.

How does 3 machines for 800 to 1,000 voters sound?

I rather doubt any members of the BPP were at DRL, Harrison, on the Walk - much less talking to voters.

And if they were at the non university polling places in the neightborhood, I rather doubt there were many McCain voters to intimidate.

Perhaps those white guys at Faux news got a little taste of what it was like when whites (some in white sheets) stood around with dogs, and some cops with night sticks (which they actually used) and weapons drawn intimidating blacks simply because blacks were trying to exercise their rights or eat at a restaurant or take the bus or simply trying to live their lives.

Black Panther????? This white brother is trippin. I am glad the guys are there. If the people got unrulley or disrespectful, then I am confident, the two guys would have helped with order. Many people in the city don't trust the police to always do the right thing, but these same people may listen to the old heads in the community. I still can't get past how this guy from the news identify these brothers as Black Panthers. Why? Because they are dressed in black and they are black? Help us, Lord.

video was shocking: comparing a phone camera to a club?
Is anyone saying that the guy in the black outfit and the
retro-beret needs to defend people from--an unarmed guy
with a camera? Fascism is fascism no matter who's wearing
the uniform and waving the stick. . ..

Whatever they were, standing in front of the polling place with clubs is just plain DUMB. And they were dressed alike, which only twins and Rockettes should do. Philly has its Panther history, and here are two very large guys dressed alike with billy clubs. It's not an entirely unreasonable conclusion. What, should the student, or reporter, have asked them for their official Panther Club ID's?

All over the country, so many people stood in line for hours, so patiently. So there's no excuse to be standing around with your billy club. If big guys with clubs were standing in front of polling places in Alabama, I'd be plenty scared. Don't try to excuse it.

Although I too question the appropriateness of these two alleged Black Panthers serving as "security," I'm also wondering why Fox News doesn't give equal time to all the GOP dirty tricks being played in Florida and elsewhere. If they gave equal time to all those immoral shenanigans, they'd be using up every minute of their airtime and then some. Oh, but black folks feeling intimidated at a polling place doesn't mean as much to white guys in suits, does it?

Somehow I can't get all worked up over a bunch of white guys in suits whining over feeling "intimidated" by a couple of black guys and a phallic symbol (i.e., the nightstick).

Memo to white guys in suits: It IS true what they say, you know. So, go ahead and feel inadequate. Not intimidated.

Security is to be handled by local police or county sheriff departments. I doubt seriously anyone was intimidated enough to not vote at this precinct, but I am at a loss as to why he would be brandishing a nightstick. The reporter was agitating the situation, but there should be no guards with weapons at any polling places in Pennsylvania.

Over reaction on the part of the so called student. A blatant set up by Faux news.

Def an overreaction by the student. He gave it away with his first line in the video, "You got my back??" Was he going to a rumble with Jets?

The video clearly shows that the 'reporter' was the agitator.

The idea that the Black Panther once stood for is disorientated. Who cares who is at the place. When I went to vote there were two nazi kids handing propaganda and a parked cop. I almost swallowed my throat when i saw the cop hoping he would not smell the weed scent from my joint, just kidding but the nazi kids were true, and they gave me reading material as I left. Then told me that I should carry ,(my puerto rican a$$) mexican a$$ back to where Im from.

I'm a white woman, and if I was approaching that polling place, how would these two men know who I was voting for? If my intention is to vote for Obama, they would just be damaging Obama's chance to win. So why would they be intimidating anyone????

BUT...
That's probably how Faux set it up, so that it would look like a REAL NEWS story. Funny how they were the only crew there and soooo convienient.
