I am proud to say that I am American now.

It still moves me to see the older people, who can remember the segregation and all people who have experienced possible discrimination due to their ethnicity, celebrating and releasing emotions now that this glass ceiling has been broken. Not just broken, shattered!

I am so proud of our country. I am so proud.

Worked hard for this one. I will rest for now but have a renewed sense of hope and pride that there are so many others that feel the same way I do. I want to make this a better country and a better world and Barack Obama will help to show us the way, but we all will need to do our part and he will need our continued help. I am not religious, but my spirit has been moved and we are our brother's and sister's keepers. When we unite for the good of all, there is nothing that can stop us. Don't stop now

I have never seen an election celebrated like this. People were literally dancing in the streets here in Seattle. The pictures of world reactions confirm in my mind that we have been not only a laughingstock but a global travesty for the last 8 years.
I'm proud to be an American today.

I've been around for awhile and I've never known a presidential election to be celebrated in the streets. The video of the celebration outside the White House is stunning!

After 8 long and painful years, we are all free, we are all finally free!

I'll wave a US flag when President Obama visits London. I don't think I would have ever considered doing that before.

I still cannot believe this is happening... what an incredible day for America and the world!!!! I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the celebration in DC last night, what a historical event!!!!

Looking at these pics just brought tears to my eyes all over again, like last night. I was the lone Obama supporter on my street (besides my husband). We live in a very, very red-area, so our celebration was low-key, but joyful. I raised a glass of wine in victory. Thank you, all you other Obama supporters who made this possible. Now, let's get busy and fix our country...

Why aynone would want to leave here based on an election is beyond more. We are more than one man or 435. By the way, looking at those pics I just noticed something. Conservatives and liberals even LOOK different (and I'm not talking about skin color)

The latter bubble over with life pouring out of every pour, even in sadness.

The former look like they have a permanent stick up their ***.

I think it has something to do with pretending to be something one is not.

Another little reason to celebrate...

M a r i j u a n a has been decriminalized in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with 65% of the vote in favor!!

Now that is a good move.

Ralph Nader who is 100% right on every issue would empty the prisons of non-violent drug offenders and go after the real criminals who hurt people.

I would do the same thing. It is a reasonable approach to solve a crowded prison problem.

Adding to that, I can tell you that I went to four different polls yesterday, and was a poll greeter at one of them in Tarrant County. Every poll I went to had an Obama poll greeter/campaigner out. Not a single one had a Republican for McCain there. I believe Dallas County also went blue last night. It's the small towns that sink us.

Yeah texas was red, but let me say this, it won't be for much longer, if you look at the big cities, Obama did very well. I live in San Antonio, which we won. People on 6th st. in Austin held a big rally and when Obama was annoucned the as the President Elect, everybody held their hearts and recited the pledge of allegiance. People at the san antonio democrate party, where my old lady and I watch the good news, were holding hands and cheering so loudly. Thanks to every texan and every american that volunteered and stepped up. Now that the vacation is over, lets get to work.

From an email from a friend in NYC:

"So I just got back from walking around on 125th St. Total, insane party. Literally dancing in the streets. A mob scene, but not one iota of danger. People just yelling Obama over and over again. People standing on cars, holding up Obama signs. Traffic stopped. Seemingly no drunkenness, (although there was definitely a ganja cloud in front of the Apollo), just joy. We stood on the corner of 125th and Frederick Douglass for a while, and there were chants of "USA, USA, USA" and the totally spontaneous singing of the national anthem. I have never, ever been witness to the star spangled banner and not felt at least a little creepy, it just feels a little too uber nationalist. But tonight the crowd just felt like we did something right for once, and needed to sing about it."

Congratulations America. I am so proud of what you have accomplished. The world is celebrating your victory as you take back your country, and rebuild it, with inclusiveness, respect, decency, honour, and include the rest of us in your journey. To quote Tina Turner, you're simply the best.
God Bless you all and God Bless America.

Tbank you sandpiper1. I'm an American who is very proud of my country today, and I want to tell you that I have never forgotten the wonderful deed done by the Canadian ambassador to Iran during the time that American diplomats were held hostage by the Iranian government. The ambassador and his staff helped six American diplomats who happened to be at the Canadian embassy when the U.S. embassy was overrun. It took a couple of months, but the six Americans were smuggled out of Iran with fake Canadian passports and visas. I will never forget the gratitude I and many other Americans felt toward Canada, and every time I visit Canada, I remember how wonderful it is to have a great neighbors like the Canadians!

This will change a lot of lives for the better. People who are motivated and feel that they can make a drifference in their own life and that of others will be much more willing contribute to their country/society. People who are ruled by the fear of and hatred towards others tend to hide and dispair. What a great motivator Obama is. I am not religious but last night's events were very inspirational to say the least.

I can't recall a time in my lifetime (almost 50 years) that the world has been so happy. We did it, and we will continue to make real progress now.
