Fox News Calls Ohio For Obama As Rove Says McCain Needs Ohio To Win

Fox News called Ohio for Barack Obama while Karl Rove was in the middle of an electoral map analysis that said John McCain will have a nearly impossible road to victory without Ohio.

"If he loses Ohio," Rove said of McCain, "he goes from 286, which the Republicans carried in 2004, down to 266, and that puts him below the 270 threshold needed to win the White House. So he'd not only need to sweep the rest of these states which were won by the Republicns in 2004, he'd also need to pick up something as well."

"Guess what Karl," Brit Hume broke in, "I've just received word that the state of Ohio has gone for Barack Obama."

Watch, as Rove sketches out McCain's improbable last hope for a road to the White House, which goes through the solidly blue states of California, Oregon, Hawaii, and Michigan (he would need one of those to win the White House):

I am from New Mexico and last night we went from red in 2004 to Obama blue in 2008!! Thank you to our neighbor to the North, Colorado. We also have two new senators from New Mexico and Colorado, the Udall cousins. When I heard Ohio went to Obama I knew we had won it. THANK YOU OHIO!!!

On the left coast, we knew by about 6:40 PT that you picked Barack and he would win the election!!!

It was funny watching Keith try to sort of call it after that. Then Chuck Todd points out when Barack gets CA,OR,and WA he will win...then about 20 more minutes to wait for the official call at 8:00 PT.

It was a long 90 minutes, but very sweet!! After the last eight years......we're use to waiting.

With new Election officials with a modicum of integrety in both Ohio and Florida, the GOP couldn't pull off the voter intimidations and frauds this year that they carried out in 2000 and 2004. Wonder which of the pundits will have the guts to point that out in the coming days as they analyze Obama's win in both of these states.

Last night while we were watching the election returns, after PA was won, we knew McCain had to sweep Ohio, Virginia and Florida to retain any hope of winning. So when Ohio was called, we popped the cork on our champaign bottle. The rest of the evening was just wondering by how many electoral votes Obama would take the election.

If the officials call NC for Obama he'll end this election cycle with 364 EV. Not bad for a man who pundits were writing off as a sure loser early in the campaign.
