I FINALLY GOT TO VOTE TODAY IN MICHIGAN!!! It was amazing. I got there about 6:30, half hour before polls opened and I had to stand behind a sea of people waiting patiently, excitedly, and motivated. Pretty much everyone there was voting for Obama (predominantly black precinct) so I was in great company. It was so amazing that instead of being irritated by the crowd and the wait, it seemed to create a pep in each voter's step and an intensity that what we were witnessing was actually real and quite breathtaking as we took it all in that we will play our part on this historic day, regardless of the results. It was fast and the machines were running great, the staff didn't miss a beat and I was out of there at 8:15 just to go outside and see a crowd that extended down the street and around the corner in triple to quadruple-filed lines. It was a sight to see. It was a beautiful privilege.

* Something else nice happened too. A young man was looking at the line and wanted to turn around. A man pled with him to stay and told him that he can have his spot in line closer to the door and he will go to the back of the line, if that's what it took for him to stay. He stayed and went to the back of the line. That is the better part of who we are as people.

Poor erick....., you know these students are OBAMA supporters.

Listen erick , these students are not ignorant like you. Grow up and brace yourself for a landslide. Your negative ad's and LIES have not worked. How does that make you little Pea brain feel?

I feel great today, full of excitement and it is GREAT to see students all over the country voting for someone that is so smart and articulate. A Harvard grad, finally a president that can string words together that make sense. Finally a president that can make ME PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN ONCE AGAIN. You keep clinging A&&hole

I grew up in a Democratic home in SoCal in the turbulent '60s, but eventually became a Republican. My beliefs, not Party affiliation, are what have always dictated my vote. My brother and many classmates served in the Vietnam War, some never returning. We experienced the aftermath of assassinations of President John Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King. We supported John McCain in the primary in his bid for the nomination in 2000, but not without our reservations. At the same time, we had begun drifting away from our support for the Republican Party. We began to increasingly question the right-leaning, myopic direction the Party was taking with its platform and ideology. After this year’s Democratic Convention, it was with no reservations that we supported Senator Obama. Moreover, it is because of Senator Obama's tireless energy, passion, vision and compassion that we have become re-energized about the prospects of hope for the future of our Nation. Our Nation may not be in an economic depression, but it's our feeling that we have become emotionally depressed about where President Bush's policies have dangerously moved our Country. We have been severely wounded within our borders and globally. Not since the days of President Kennedy do we feel there has been anyone as charismatic and who possesses the innate qualities, abilities, intelligence, conviction of purpose and leadership to be our President, and who can head us in the right direction toward healing the wounds that so desperately require attention!

To help fight anxiety about the outcome, here's some feel-good Obama that you can watch between rounds of phone-banking:

I'm impressed. I just received a text message from my son at Digipen Technical in Washington State saying he'd voted. He worked for the Obama campaign, canvassing for the past 3-4 months. The buttons on my cell phone have stopped working properly - but I was able to send him the following text "C#ang@. My daughter and I early voted in Chicago area. My husband voted today. No mishaps.

Of course you're not going to have a problem voting in Illinois. Most problems are in PA, VA, OH, NC, etc....all swing states Republicans have to win.

Fox News is staging their reporters out in Pa. districts where there is a large concentration of blacks and they are attempting to agitate the voters - what a shame - I saw it on Fox news today -

There were some Black Panthers, I think they were there to ensure there would be no tricks with blacks votes. This type of thing is because blacks have a long history of having their vote disinfranchised by Republicans. Blacks are worried and weary and who can blame them?

haval2: Good thought, but you're incorrect. Penn State had a great running back named Lenny Moore in the early Fifties, and had plenty of black running backs after that. In fact, there were problems with PSU and the Cotton Bowl invite they got after the 1947 season, when a few black players weren't made to feel welcome in the Dallas area, and their teammates and coaches didn't put up with the bigotry.

Not to brag, but Penn State had about as good of a record for "early" racial diversity as any major university.

I agree. I was there in the sixties. Two more names...Franco Harris, drafted by the Steelers; Lydell Mitchell drafted by Baltimore, Ithink.

I'm a white senior citizen who remembers what it was like for minority students back when I was in college In Wisconsin (the early sixties). I had a roommate from Kenya (who is still a friend of mine today),, and in order for us to shop for clothes, we always had to wait outside the stores until a contingent of city policement came to "follow" us around. Very demeaning for both my roommate and myself. I also remember being at a minor league ball game in South Carolina in the mid 1960s, and seeing some hooded KKK members come into the park and shoot two black men and three white men who were together, because they weren't sitting in the "black" section. I've been volunteering for Sen. Obama two days a week for months now. I am SO HAPPY to see the long lines of young people, and also older ones of all cultures, who are eager to vote for Barack and Joe. Makes me feel so proud, and hopeful that maybe one day soon most of the people of our country will be "colorblind." I think a lot of us already are.

Thanks for sharing that. Yeah, it's been a long time coming but this election says something for change of this country's past views. I am proud of what has happened and I hope that we can carry it through. I pray we will.

You're in luck. For the most part - this generation has no interest in hate, fear and division based on race, religion, gender, sex or sexual orientation - they reject it all.

Well said! For the past 25 or so years, a great swarth of America has been told that they are not part of the REAL America, and for some reason we didn't fight back. Now, let's hope that enough of us have decided, finally, to take our country back. No longer will we let a small group of angry, selfish people tell us who is and who isn't an American. I think this ideological bunch has distorted our values by promoting the view that we all have to look like they do, live like they do, think like they do, and worship like they do. Too many of us followed them blindly.
But now that their ideology has been found to be bankrupt (literally), let's hope that it's not too late to renew an abandoned American commitment to pursuing the ideals of inclusiveness and shared responsibility.
