Palin

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Citing her right to privacy, Gov. Sarah Palin refused to say who she voted for after emerging from her polling place in Wasilla, Alaska. That's right, she wouldn't say she voted for her own presidential ticket. We assume she did, but she stood on principle and wouldn't say. She did say the secret ballot was one of the "cool" things about the U.S. Agreed.

Palin did say, "I hope, pray, believe I will be able to wake up as vice president elect."

Palin is perhaps the most unqualified person ever to adorn a major party ticket as VP nominee, but she is correct as a matter of principle on the right of each citizen to keep his or her vote private, and her exercise of this right (odd though it may be for an electoral candidate) should be respected. Voting in private is an important and fundamental protection in a democratic system, reducing the potential for interference by governmental, majority, and other elements in a person's free exercise of the right to vote.

Yeah, like anyone cares about that. She is just the VP pick and it is natural for everyone to ask the VP and Presidential nominees who they voted for. It's practically tradition and I've heard that question going back decades and decades.

Wouldn't surprise me if she voted Obama so she could have a quicker shot at running as the Presidential candidate in 2012. Instead of having to wait until 2016. (if she (God Forbid) won)

Maybe she did a write-in for the Secessionist Party candidate, if there is one. My first thought was that she did a write-in for herself as president. This way she can say that she got a vote to be president in 2008. I don't know the rules for write-in candidates in Alaska, but that would be hilarious if she shows up on the final tally for the presidential vote.

I'm hoping, praying and believing that you won't be, Governor Palin. I'm tired of your smoke screen, switch-and-bait, misdirection and smear tactics.

Obviously, the one thing that many on this board are forgetting this Palin is absolutely right. She has the right not to disclose her vote to anyone, but how dumb was the reporter to make an issue out of it. Palin make many uncomfortable because she has principles and believes in the values if America including the right to a secret ballot. So don’t feel sorry for Palin, feel sorry for all of the union members. Remember, it is Obama that wants to do away with the secret ballots for the unions.

Standing up for one principle does not support the generalization that Palin has principles. Prime example - her spreading the wealth in Alaska by taxing oil companies and accusing Obama of practicing socialism. Unclear if Obama will sign check-card legislation, but don't ignore the fact that union employers have turned union democracy into a joke through a pattern of retaliatory firings.

At the end of the day, who really cares?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:30 PM on 11/04/2008

No; she merely didn't want a media frenzy over whether she voted for Stevens or not.

This is just another display of how it's easy to talk about having a transparent government but not really being in favor if it. Why is it hard to say if you voted for your ticket, or Sen. Stevens, whom she pubiclly stated he should take his name off the ballot? The more I hear from her the more I despise her.

And I love how people are saying how she believes so much in the values of America but attempts to use the 1st Amendment to shield herself from criticism, wants to overturn Roe v Wade, which has been the law of the land for decades, and tries to link Obama to Muslim ties, implying that there's somehow something wrong to be Muslim in the first place.

It seems she believes in American values ONLY when speaking about herself.

Did she think it was a "gotcha" question?
She continues to amaze me... and not in a good way.

She wouldn't answer who she voted for because she wrote herself in as president. She's ready to throw McCain under the bus.

Exactly my thinking.
Here's to hope she wakes up to a very sobering thought: back to Alaska.

Why didn't Todd vote?? I watched her vote and he came out with her but he wasn't even in the room when she voted. Is he not registered either? Maybe because he belongs to the secessionist party??

Well, at least she voted quickly. It took Barack forever because he couldn't find the spot on the ballot to vote "present."

This must be your last post for the next four years....what's your fake moniker gonna be when you go hide after Obama wins?

No, Palin voted quickly because she could no longer stand wearing the plebian stuff like that hooded sweatshirt she had on. "Where's my Saks Care Package? Where's my new gown from Neiman Marxist?? You're fired! All of you!"

It took Obama forever because the ballot in Chicago is VERY LONG. They even said so on FOX, which I am sure is your favorite station.

She didn't say because she probably got confused at the ballot & screwed her own vote up.

We hope, pray and believe you wake up not as vice president elect, Sarah Palin. Why? Because you're not qualified for it, don't deserve it and haven't behaved worthily of it.

Palin probably thinks that asking who she voted for is a violation of her First Amendment rights. It opens her up to criticism. I am surprised she didn't compare her voting to her reading list, "I voted for all of them."
