CNN reports that senior McCain aide, and chief foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann was fired a week before Election Day for "trashing" McCain staffers to the press over their handling of Sarah Palin:

Randy Scheunemann, a senior foreign policy adviser to John McCain, was fired from the Arizona senator's campaign last week for what one aide called "trashing" the campaign staff, three senior McCain advisers tell CNN.

One of the aides tells CNN that campaign manager Rick Davis fired Scheunemann after determining that he had been in direct contact with journalists spreading "disinformation" about campaign aides, including Nicolle Wallace and other officials.

The New York Times adds that the McCain campaign pegged Bill Kristol as the most likely recipient of Scheunemann's attacks against fellow McCain staffers:

Whatever the permutations, the advisers said they strongly believed that Mr. Scheunemann was disclosing, as one put it, "a constant stream of poison" to William Kristol, the editor of the conservative Weekly Standard and a columnist for The New York Times.

Mr. Kristol, who wrote a column on Oct. 13 calling on Mr. McCain to fire his campaign because it was "close to being out-and-out dysfunctional," said in a telephone interview on Wednesday that the campaign advisers were paranoid. Mr. Kristol has been a strong supporter of Ms. Palin.

"I wasn't writing poison," Mr. Kristol said. He added that "Randy Scheunemann is a friend of mine and I think he did a good job. I talked to him, but I talked to a lot of people at the campaign."

Scheunemann himself disputes that he was fired. Fellow aide Michael Goldfarb tries to back him up, and doesn't really succeed:

However, Goldfarb did concede that Scheunemann's campaign e-mail was cut off, and his blackberry was taken away late Friday. Goldfarb admits that senior McCain aides were mad at Scheunemann, and wanted to fire him, but he insists they stopped short of that, and instead simply turned off his campaign communication.

Scheunemann is one of those directly responsible for the loss of life and treasure in Georgia (Gruzia) and S. Ossetia. He is a model of a neocon. Like Kristol, Cheney, and Dear Leader Bush, he has never served in the army, yet they are always eager to make others to loose their lives for the wrong cause

I share the exhilaration that many have just posted. However, remember that Obama won mainly because the economy nearly collapsed. Polls demonstrated a huge change around Sept 15th. Palin was very close to becoming VP and was hand picked by Bill Kristol and the rest of the NeoCons including their henchmen like Randy Scheunemann. Those people are still a force within the conservative ranks. The chance to bring in the moderate branch of the Republican party - including McCain is NOW. This will marginalize the these self serving half wits like Bill Kristolball, Hannity and the rest.

I don't think that was just all of it. People may be wary about the economy but there are a lot of voters who admire Obama. He didn't just win due to the economy. Bush's ratings had a lot to do with change too.

Hmmmm...

Little Billie Kristol supporting Sarah Palin, a woman?....he must admire
her wardrobe. Envy is oftimes mistaken for admiration.

I wonder which outfit of hers is his favorite. Betcha he shows up at the auction.

Let's see with his coloring and hair color, my guess is that he'll pick.......

Personally, i think the Dems should begin to bring decent GOP politicians into the fold of moderation and bipartisanship,
and for those like Boehner the Bonehead and some others, they should IMMEdiately begin to pour all the salt in the world into their wounds, rub it in, toss some pure alcohol on it, then burn it with a hot poker, and slowly drip water on their heads for days.
especially the most vomitlike spewers of hate and lies such as Delay, Gingrich, media people like Hannity, O'really, half the fox staff, and Limbaugh, Beck, etc.

I too find it disturbing that moderate Repubs like Sununu and Shays (and Lincoln Chafee before them) are being driven out of office and out of the Republican party, leaving the leadership to wingn*ts and fringe elements. If corrupt old coots like Don Young and Ted Stevens can win, and nutballs like Michelle Bachmann are still in office, it is not a good sign of democracy or of the electorate IMO.

you're right, that is disturbing. but then most everything the existing GOP has done is disturbing for the past 10 yrs or so.
Tom Delay before he was forced out was reprimanded for trying to force redistricting for hte purpose of diluting democratic precincts and districts.
aholes.

This election was so emotional that everybody acted out of anger. It will take some time to heal. ...........

Look. Some people will never like Obama because he's black so that healing stuff is useless. Let them go on and be angry with the nation for 4 yrs. It's not hurting anyone but themselves.

McCain/Palin ran such a nasty campaign it will even take me a while to look at Senator McCain as a different human being as I'm told he is.

First of all, he doesn't just work there. He heads it.

Secondly, it's owned by........Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox Newsfixers Channel, where Freddie "Born Again" Barnes, also of Weekly Standard, hangs out with Billy Kristol to spew the right-wing bilge.

Never mind that the guy is a paid lobbyist for a foreign government (the Republic of Georgia). McCain was fine with that, but going off-message? THAT'S a firing offense. Shows you the kind of administration MCCain would have run, which, thankfully, we have been spared.

To the sore losers who supported McCain that say they don't trust Obama: And your candidate couldn't surround himself with the right people, nor manage his campaign? And he was going to manage the country????? Please....

When I first heard sara p speak I thought I heard her refer to todd as "still my guy" -- at the time it startled me. Doesn't that usually mean "I'm tired of him not having a real job" or "I'm lookin'", or something to that effect???

This whole episode is a reflection on McCain's leadership style... poor, absolutely poor.
