And aren't we Chicagoans a proud lot! We can certainly throw quite a party.
This beautiful city and it's beautiful people celebrating our new President, who just happens to be a Chicagoan!
Thanks to our Mayor and all of us citizens for showing the world how to party and have a great time with dignity and respect.
''This is my kind of town, chicago is, My kind of town, chicago is
My kind of people too, People who smile at you
And each time I roam, chicago is, Calling me home, chicago is
One town that wont let you down, Its my kind of town!''

Great pictures! I was lucky enough to be in the park last night and it was just an amazing night. It was such a peaceful night too and so filled with joy. I've been living here a long time and to see cops laughing and traffic police giving high fives to people is something I've never seen before and it was a beautiful thing.

And I have to say that the sleep I got last night was the BEST sleep I have had in years. When I got home I watched some of the news coverage and then just crashed.

nowalnuts,
I was there too but I came in from Indiana. I would and have described the event exactly like you did. It was amazing. And you are so right about the police. I didn't see a one that didn't give me a fine howdy-do nod or smile. Did they rehearse that??? My daughter and I did a victory lap around the Loop and then caught the last train. A treasured night.

I'm just happy, happy ,happy. No other way to say it. For the first time in quite a few years I feel that someone actually cares about the American people, and not just paying lip service to us to get our vote and then just continue to screw us behind closed doors. Things have to change enough that no one will take the chance again to let the lying republicans take us down again. No way can palin ever have the chance to undo things - or any other repug either. People matter. We made this happen and we can keep them away if we put our hearts and minds together whenever they begin their lying again!

I have been at work all day and I have only gotten two things done. My mind is so overwhelmed with this. These pictures are so powerful. The sight of Jessie Jackson, for all he has been through, good and bad, this moment has to mean so much for him we can't even imagine. The one thing I see is Unity and Hope for the future.

Yes We Did !

Got Hope !

Way to go President Elect Obama and Vice President Elect Biden 08!

Now on to 01/20/2009

Does nobody care that just a few short months ago, Jesse Jackson said, "I Wanna Cut off Obama's Nuts!" ???

How can he make comments like he did, and then think we'd all just forget them when he shows up to support Obama in Grant Park?

In 1968, after Rev. Martin Luther King's and RFK's assassinations, I was in Grant Park looking at National Guardsmen with machine guns on tripods aimed at us. Forty years later I'm watching Barack Obama in Grant Park as President-elect. We have come full circle as a nation, but now we are all equals.
