Obama: "We Can't Solve Global Warming Because I F---ing Changed Light Bulbs In My House"

While most of Newsweek's behind-the-scenes Special Election Project reporting reveals serious campaign issues on both sides, there's one funny moment when Barack Obama talks candidly about dumb debate questions:

The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for them during the Democratic primaries, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

I'm surprised that Obama curses but I shouldn't be. I think most of us do it, but obviously not in a professional setting. And of course he is human. I also know for a fact that John McCain curses like a sailor, so this is good for people to know that he is not the second coming, he's a man and he's real. I think it's funny.

The real obscenity is global warming threatening the whole planet and the system that has produced it; and use of the "F-word" is nothing compared with real obscenities like illegal and devastating wars founded on lies and engineered pretexts, global warming, institutionalized racism and sexism, rule by hidden and unacccontable elites, imperial power projections, grotesque inequalities in wealth and incomes etc.

This use of contrived "non-obscenity" in speech while conducting the most obscene and devastating policies and machinations is itself another kind of hypocrisy and obscenity.
