I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Oprah Winfrey had a special live post-election special on Wednesday, and screamed with joy over the victory of Obama. Winfrey publicly endorsed Obama and campaigned for him, but hadn't really talked about him on her show since her endorsement last winter.

But as she put it on Wednesday, she is "UNLEASHED!" Wearing a "Hope Won" shirt and waving an American flag, she celebrated with unbridled joy for the first several minutes before settling down to talk to a panel including Peggy Noonan and John Lewis. She also joked that if Obama hadn't won she would probably be in the hospital today "on a drip."

This is quite possibly the most trivial article ever to appear at HuffP0, which is saying a lot.

Right! doesn't Oprah yell like this on virtually every show? From the few snippits of them I've seen of it, which is all I can take, this seems to be her regular behavior. Obama's win was truly the right time to do it.

i agree.. what makes me even more nauseous is that CNN inferred Oprah was Obama's kingmaker. That without her endorsement he could have never won. Also, does this mean that she will be the one he tips his hat too like JFK did to his dad ( who bankrolled JFK's election).

I'm sure Obama is very happy that such a loyal and early supporter is getting a little recognition for the huge risk she took. After all the primary was very very close and it's been proven that Oprah delivered about a million votes. But Oprah gives all the credit to Obama's team, saying repeatedly on her show that they ran a brilliant campaign.

The whole praise-jeebus jubilation that a black man has been elected president feels a little...what's the word...non-organic? Inauthentic? Forced? Hooray for Obama, hooray for America, and hooray for all the people who are moved by Obama, but I don't know about that Oprah.

will somebody get her back on Jenny Craig!!

With the billions Oprah has, she could buy Jenny Craig. She doesn't need Jenny Craig. It's all about good health. I am sure she isn't worried.

We're hearing an awful lot of people saying that this wonderful election result could only have happened in America. Get a grip folks. It is truly great that Barack Obama won and cudoes to the 52% or so that voted for him. But to single out the USA as the only place this could happen or that America is singularly enlightened in the world because of this result is really a stretch. This should have been possible decades ago. South Africa abandoned apartheid 2 decades ago and elected a black man that had spent half of his life in prison. Most other democracies in the world have been, if not completely free of racism, less racist than the US for the better part of the 20th Centuryt o the present (with admittedly notable exceptions). Women have been elected to lead India, Pakistan and the UK to name just three. So, this is certainly a very welcome milestone in American racial relations, but to characterize it as uniquely American is heaping a little too much credit on a society that has really lagged behind much of the world in such matters.
