Palin

From Newsweek's Special Election Project comes the real Sarah Palin. She met staff members in a towel:

At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.

She raised William Ayers before the campaign signed off on it:

Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.

And she spent far more on clothes than was reported:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family--clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Finally, Steve Schmidt (who reportedly picked Palin as VP) would not let her speak on election night.

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

While all of this is entertaining it's not surprising. The fact that this woman was clueless from day one was so obvious that I worry about the voting public who fell for her "real" American nonsense.
That's all I have to say.
We have too much work to do to spend any time on this no brainer stuff.
I want to know how we're going to address all the ongoing hatred that keeps this nation divided?
Sarah Palin is history. We have a nation to rebuild.

I am so disappointed in all leftists who are name-calling and spreading rumors about incidents. I am very much a leftist and I supported Mr.Obama. I am very hurt when I see what some of ours guys write about Palin. If you don't like her politics or think she is not experienced, fine. But why the name-calling, and the sexual stories? Why do we do this to female politicians--try to damage their credibility by spreading rumors of sexual behavior?
I think my heart about broke when Colbert showed clips of the pornographic movie with the Palin character. A Hillary character is in it as well. Can you imagine a porn made starring men who were supposed to be male politicians? I worry that the men on our side--some of them--are as bad as any when it comes to engaging in a "war" with the "other" where nothing is sacred and winning is needed at any cost. I worry that these guys are like the guys who are running the Republican Party. People don't matter, winning does. We need to see this kind of posturing for what it is--humiliating women. I know there are men who care. Yet I cannot believe that men on the left are sincere and care about the world when they show such callousness. I know we are in trouble when women laugh and are glad to see Ms. Palin put in her place.

Call us here at Huffington "leftists" do you??? Funny. You're a "leftist" are you?

"This kind of posturing is humiliating to women." Is it now?

Well how humiliating is it for women to hear that that Palin presented herself to male advisors wrapped in a towel? Please. Women have worked extremely hard to be taken seriously in the workplace and the political world.

She's a Christian is she really now? Well, I don't know any self respecting Christian women that would display themselves that way- to anyone other than their husbands. Do you?

To me, this isn't about whether she respected the men who showed up to tutor her. It is about how utterly foolish and ignorant she is.

Awfully quick to judge others...worry about yourself before criticizing others...

I agree. Regardless of how clueless Palin as a politician is, nobody should make a porn movie out of her (and Hillary). It is degrading to women. Remember that God gave the most respectable job on earth to a woman - bearing and raising the future generation. Men cannot degrade us. Most of us are good loving mothers, we should not be regarded as a sex object.

Why is the amount of money she spends on clothing even an issue?

She was a potential VP of the U.S.

That person should look good.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:15 AM on 11/07/2008

You're right. She should look good. But she should also do it on her own dime. No other candidate (or their spouses for that matter) were given a clothing per diem. And what kind of crazy thinking makes it OK to spend over $150,000 in a couple of months?!?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:55 AM on 11/07/2008

She was not spending her own money, but taking advantage of a wealthy donor and aides ambushed into funding her shopping sprees.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:07 AM on 11/07/2008

Women in all walks of life manage to "look good" for a reasonable amount of money. However, id does seem appropriate that the money was accounted for in some sort of "campaign accessories" category- she was afterall, only an accessory.

Sarah Palin's record on her rejection of endangered species act, and environment issues: (offshore drilling is safe? Ok, Sarah) is dreadful. She is suing to take Polar bears off of their rightfull spot on the endangered list, is an avid hunter, and lifelong member of the NRA (who allowed assault weapons on American streets). Her favorite kill is the Moose. She had supported the aerial sharpshooting of wolf packs living near WILDLIFE PRESERVE land in Ak., including the massacre of several 14 mo. old wolf pups. She offers hunters a $150 bounty if they present a fresh killed wolf leg! McCain voted for a 3 Million dollar Grizzly bear research project in MT. Then, switching in the pres. debate he said: :"they actually wanted 3 mill. for Bear DNA research, what a joke that's wasteful porkbarrel spending". No, John it's not, Grizzlies are endangered. Our kids may never get to see one-they'll be extinct.

All of her activities concerning the demise of beautiful animals make me sick to my stomach. I am glad she had many other negative qualities as well so everyone can see her for what she is, just an all around a despicable individual. I hope we don't see the like sof her again.

Are you kidding? Joe Biden would NEVER greet advisors wraped in a towel. NEVER. He knows better, one of the perks of being an Washington politician for so many years. And you know what? I wouldn't have either. It's called common sense. It's disrespecful to you AND your husband.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:32 AM on 11/07/2008

That's not true. He greets advisors and press all the time in the sauna. It's a woman, that's the difference.

This is total garbage, HuffPo. Would anyone report this drivel if Joe Biden greeted some advisors in a towel? Would you report it if someone did? This is a sexist smear by the McCain campaign, and you all are buying right into it. I think she's as dumb as a rock and I can't stand her ideas of policy, but that's all fair game. There are plenty of reasons to want Sarah Palin to get out of politics forever, and this is the worst one I've heard yet.

Disagree. This is good stuff. The more we know about this Wasilla hillbilly the better for 2012. I don't want her running MY country. Hell I don't even want the whack job as governor of Alaska and I don't live in Alaska.

Yup Yup.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:53 AM on 11/07/2008

Whether or not you want her as governor of Alaska is irrelevant; YOU don't make that choice. If putting the screws to Palin means so much to you then I suggest you bone up on your wilderness survival skills and start checking out real estate in Anchorage. Look I don't want Nancy Pelosi OR Mitch McConnell as legislators but I can't make an impact there can I? But I can get rid of ultra-conservative Dan Burton in Indiana and that's why I vote against him and will volunteer for his opponent every election cycle until he either loses or retires; unfortunately the latter will probably come first.

Between her winks, high heel stilletto boots and other out of place behavior, I do not know what John McCain was thinking.

Obviously thinking with the wrong body part. Ughhhhh!!!!

Proving once again the left has no notion of what sexism is...it only applies when someone who has the right liberal credentials and thinks like them that sexism reigns...otherwise, anyone is ripe for the misogyny...

Can you imagine if anyone on the right engaged in this tripe about Michelle Obama?

Maybe she realized that they were cynically using her to try to gain disaffected HRC supporters and folks who wouldn't vote for a black man. She thought, if I'm going to be a pawn, I'm gonna make em pay for it! She pulled one over on them and now they're pissed. It was a stupid idea to add her to the ticket and the whiny babies won't take responsibility for their badddd miscalculation. It just proves what a bunch of hacks schmidt, davis, sheunemann, et al are, conned by a "hillbilly from wasilla". wink.
I don't like Sarah Palin in any way shape or form, but it's complete cowardice for the head of the ticket to hide behind his advisors and place all of the blame on the vice presidential pick. I hope the all end up working at the men's wharehouse, exiled from politics forever, schmucks.
