Palin

From Newsweek's Special Election Project comes the real Sarah Palin. She met staff members in a towel:

At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.

She raised William Ayers before the campaign signed off on it:

Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.

And she spent far more on clothes than was reported:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family--clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Finally, Steve Schmidt (who reportedly picked Palin as VP) would not let her speak on election night.

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

"Excuse me, gentlemen. I need to find my Bible before I finish getting dressed. Ah, yes. It says here, 'Put your clothes on.'"

If McCain's aides were afraid to speak to him about Palin's alleged wardrobe expenditures what would they have done when the phone rang at 3am? It's strange to comprehend that supposedly laid-back people like Todd would want ,let alone need, $20-40k worth of high-end clothing.

Maybe he had planned to put on some fancy suits, head on over to Baltimore and catch some crabs.

And how would McCain react when he heard his VP was out of control? His staff made a huge mistake in casting Palin in as VP.

No surprise here.

Nothing against journalists, but she is a journalist.

She's qualified to report on sports, not run government.

She spoke as if she knows more about law than anyone else in government, when everyone else has a law degree. That's arrogant!

Putting her in charge of the Nation is like turning 'Joe the Plumber' loose on a Nuclear Reactor with his pipe wrench. Neither would be qualified.

She spent an additional $20K on clothes she ran up on aids credit cards? Could you imagine the damage she could do with the nations Visa card, which is currently in Bush's pocket?

This is scary stuff. To think that someone actually thinks she's qualified is the stuff nighmares are made of.

And Obama is qualified, to this day, how?

What REAL job did he have, not on the public dole, in recent years?

Good point. I totally agree with the points that Sarah Palin might not be qualified, but how is Obama any better?

As an Alaskan from a red state...I'm RED with embarrassment over this woman. AND we may vote in a convicted felon to the senate..there are still over 40,000 votes not counted so I'm hopeful. Not all Alaskans are Palin lovers.

I certainly hope Sen. Stevens loses - fair and square - because I wouldn't be a BIT SURPRISED if Palin didn't wiggle her way into being appointed to Senate...

Drum roll, please:

So that's why she went on a shopping spree. She didn't have any clothes!

Sarah's note to self: 'This is going to be just like our pageant days. Look happy. The judges are watching.' "Just a minute, boys. I forgot to put on my heels."

"You know the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom? Lipstick, because we both walk around naked and need a damp towel to dry our hair."

For the sake of the party and nation, Palin should sink into the abyss, serve her remaining months as governor and then count fish for her husband fishing business... Palin destroyed the republican ticket and for those who think she is a savior, think again my friends. Palin is the classic example of a Bimbo with dark hair, most bimbos are blond.

In spite of being wired to say yes instantly, Governor Palin was not ready to take over the Presidency. The prospect of her in the Oval Office scared me to death. I was not alone. How anyone so shallow and ignorant could raise the issue of Senator Obama's experience is beyond me. We just dodged a bigger bullet than Spiro Agnew, and that was a big bullet.

shallow and ignorant. so true.

Wait a minute..... after spending close to $150,000 + a reported extra $20k.....

.....you would think she could think ahead to those titillating moments to entice the Mens club with a classy Terry cloth robe.....

Seriously, this bimbo has no reason or purpose running for ANY political office let alone trying out for Hugh Hefner's Playboy Club cocktail waitresses....

I surely hope she disappears into the deep abyss only to never return out of embarrassment, had she purposely dropped the towel, it would have been really classic. Dropping the body towel to expose her fake boobies would have more her style......

McCain did the world a great favor by picking her as a VP. She was simply a flash in the pan and the flame has been extinguished
