Palin

From Newsweek's Special Election Project comes the real Sarah Palin. She met staff members in a towel:

At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said.

She raised William Ayers before the campaign signed off on it:

Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting.

And she spent far more on clothes than was reported:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family--clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Finally, Steve Schmidt (who reportedly picked Palin as VP) would not let her speak on election night.

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

Nice try, slick, but no cigar. A nasty little pill of bigotry doesn't equal a flying-monkey feeding frenzy. But go ahead and enjoy it, while it lasts.

Like everyone else, I'm tired of hearing about this looser, however, we really need to keep this out there, just to insure that in four years, she has no chance. she thinks we will forget. We need to let her know, let the repugs know, we won't.

You make obvious what this is about...bury her now so she has no chance in '08...

If you people keep this up, Obama could turn out like Carter in 1976...

Neiman Marcus and Saks...the real America, but keep the sales slip for a cheerful refund. The downward spiral for the Repubs continues.

I really do hope she runs in 2012, gets the nomination and loses. I just can't picture her being taken seriously in Iowa and NH though.

Totally off topic, look for the short film "TONY" ad when it pops up randomly on HP. The ad says trailer but the whole movie plays. A really nice flick by Grant Heslov, who did Good Night and Good Luck.

Next to falling on a sword for your grand idea, Steve, this's probably the best you thing you could have done.

And just think, if McCain had won, we would never have heard any of these stories. Makes you wonder.

And as much as I dislike everything she stands for, I wouldn't have minded seeing her in a towel. But, then, I'm a pig, or so my wife keeps telling me.

You couldn't even make this stuff up.

Next up: pitched in Hollywood -- it's your basic 'fish out of water' comedy, it's Sex in the City meets Legally Blonde meets West Wing, starring Tina Fey.

The arrogance of this woman, to think she could strut onto the national stage and pull her small-town b*llsh*t and get away with it. Here I thought Bush was arrogant; here I thought the Clinton's were stuffed chock-ful with entitlement. Palin is either oblivious to her own stupidity and ignorance, or assumes ours is greater than hers. Personally, I don't think she's that saavy. Just as Obama once said of the Republican campaign: "It's like they take pride in their ignorance."

Wow... and to think these whackjobs came close to being in the White House. What a disgrace to America.

It wasn't exactly a classy move but neither was the "job" that Bill got in the oval office. Adultery IN the WH is pretty disgraceful. Your statements are hypocritical as those "whackjobs" you and your ilk "rescued" America from.

One question... regarding Palin meeting staff members in the hotel wearing nothing but a towel...

Is the towel now in Alaska? Did Palin steal the towels, shampoo and soap?

The right-wing propaganda machine continues its spin. How hard it is not to view it all with skepticism and apathy. In the aftermath of the GOP's resounding defeat, right-wing "insiders" prattle on about how their appallingly inexperienced Vice Presidential nominee took advantage of spending sprees. So where were their voices when they were needed most? Where was their outcry against truly insidious excesses like those of the top brass at Enron, Lehman Bros., Exxon who pocketed hundreds of millions of dollars at the expense of thousands of employees and the public at large?

Don't you get it? It's this Republican Party's way to exaggerate, lie outright, and keep saying the same thing over and over, like the Ayers thing, the terrorist thing, the Muslim thing, the socialist thing, the whatever-the-hell-thing... even once a story has been corrected, they continue. Did you read that Ayers said THE DAY OF THE ELECTION that he "hardly knew the guy." Obama's approach was not to "protest too much", and he cleared it up at the debate - but it never stopped, because those people know that it takes hearing something three times for it to sink in, and they know the Democratic Party won't play the game and so they get someone new with each pitch. They have no shame, no scruples. I think McCain was so good at his concession speech because he finally realized that the only strategy his campaign was using was negativity, fear, lies, etc. That really is NOT John McCain, at least I certainly have never thought of him that way. Re. Palin’s clothes and the towel, etc., I think our guys did a fine job of letting the cat out of the bag just enough about the spending. The timing couldn’t have been any better, lol. The towel thing was just stupid and shows her true character, and it’s better that it’s coming out now instead of during the campaign. I totally love that she pitched fits every time she read the negative press.. .
