Power Shakeup In Illinois Legislature
The Illinois Senate that Barack Obama left behind now is in a mad scramble over who will lead both the Democrats and Republicans.
Following Tuesday's election, Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson (R-Greenville) decided to step down from GOP leadership after a recent stroke. Back in September, Senate President Emil Jones (D-Chicago) said he wouldn't run again.
The jockeying for Senate leadership unfolds as House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) appeared to enjoy a pick-up of a net three seats. One Republican casualty is longtime Rep. Brent Hassert of Romeoville, part of the leadership team of House Minority Leader Tom Cross of Oswego.
