Reid To Meet With Lieberman To Discuss Committee Chairmanship

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will likely meet later this week with Joe Lieberman to discuss whether the Democrat-turned-Independent will be stripped of his Senate committee chairmanship, a senior Democratic leadership aide tells CNN.

Lieberman currently chairs the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

This aide says that Reid, who is calling the meeting, has not yet decided what to do. The aide admits that the decision will be determined in part by the final election results -- and just how close the party is to a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority -- but insists that the biggest factor involved is lingering anger among Senate Democrats over Lieberman's Republican convention speech.

By the way, "the recall vote in his state" idea pointed out in an earlier post is a damn good idea. I can't imagine Connecticut voters not being down for that. God knows it's a better idea than having to wait four more years for his reelection during which time he will invariably try to move back to the center, if not further left, in an effort to endear hiimself once again with his constiuency in his transparent effort to get reelected so he can start his crap all over again. Recall vote NOW!!!

Lieberman is poison. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY he should ever be allowed, even for a second, to "come back into the folk". Dems will do so at their own peril. If Joe The Lieberman were allowed "back in", mark my word, he would sabatouge Dems efforts on all-important legislation every chance he gets. Make a clean break Sen Reid and do away w/ him....now! His disparaging remarks at the Repub Convention makes him damaged goods beyond repair and beyond forgiveness.

As distasteful as Lieberman is, I think you have to give him a chance to come back into the fold. We may still need him to get to that magic 60 so that we can get Obama's policies done. You allow him to keep his chair with the understanding of just how precarious that spot is and put him on a short leash. If he continues to carry GOP water, then you punt him.

As much as I'd like to see Lieberman kicked to the curb, it would serve the Democratic party better, if he was stripped of his committee chairmanship but be allowed to save face in some way.

Better that he caucuses with the Dems, rather than the Republicans, as he could be a powerful enemy.

the Independent move was one thing. Speaking at McCain's nomination, and being his lap-dog -- why should he be trusted to support Democratic policies? He hasn't been very good at it.

Unfortunately, Lieberman isn't trustworthy. If he has the chance to hamstring the Democratic party at a crucial juncture, most likely he will. Better just to cut him out and let him drift to the minority party and make his deals with the untrusting and untrustworthy Republicans.

The image of this man speaking so vehemently against Obama at the Republican National Convention is burned into my memory, he showed an appalling lack of grace, common sense and integrity. He should not be in charge of a boy scout troop let alone a Senate committee.
