CNN:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will likely meet later this week with Joe Lieberman to discuss whether the Democrat-turned-Independent will be stripped of his Senate committee chairmanship, a senior Democratic leadership aide tells CNN.

Lieberman currently chairs the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

This aide says that Reid, who is calling the meeting, has not yet decided what to do. The aide admits that the decision will be determined in part by the final election results -- and just how close the party is to a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority -- but insists that the biggest factor involved is lingering anger among Senate Democrats over Lieberman's Republican convention speech.

Mentioned earlier was "theoretical majority". No, because this guy caucused with the Democrats there was a clear majority with all the associated benefits. There would have been no oversight the last two years, such as it was, if it weren't for Lieberman. In spite of all the damage he did, we have to give him credit for that, regardless of his motives - which allude me.

Does anybody else find it a bit slimey that Reid would only strip Lieberman of his chair if he doesn't think he needs Lieberman. Not exactly a principaled position. It could also come back to bite Reid in the butt, as the next 2 year cycle Senate election has allot more Dems up then Repubs, so if the election goes badly would could have a razor close hold again on the Senate and the difference might be one Senator Liberman. That would be great if Reid goes out of his way to punish the guy.

He used dems and dems used him. He is a repub at heart and should always be viewed as such. I believe when he goes for reelection, his constituents will deal with him.

It's time for Joe to go. The thought of him taking McCain and Palin's side against us is just too much. He can't be trusted and once you can't trust someone it's time to get rid of them. It's just like a marriage, once the trust is gone, not much left!

Lieberman has acted as more of an obstructionist than even some declared Republicans. He not only spoke at the other party's convention, he VERY actively campaigned AGAINST the Democratic ticket. He has no worth as a Democrat.

Lieberman threw his lot in with the loser, so he deserves to lose, too. No reason to kowtow to him any longer. Lieberman won't change and he can't be trusted. Why would any Democrat want to keep company with him?

He is the Benedict Arnold of the Senate. Who can trust this man on any side? His political career is in self-de-struct mode.

He is definitely an opportunist and especially a tra-itor to Democratic values. Get rid of him asap.

He HAS to go. We Democrats have to demonstrate some integrity. If Republicans were keeping a traitor to their cause on board just to keep a theoretical margin, we would laugh at them.
