CNN:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will likely meet later this week with Joe Lieberman to discuss whether the Democrat-turned-Independent will be stripped of his Senate committee chairmanship, a senior Democratic leadership aide tells CNN.

Lieberman currently chairs the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

This aide says that Reid, who is calling the meeting, has not yet decided what to do. The aide admits that the decision will be determined in part by the final election results -- and just how close the party is to a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority -- but insists that the biggest factor involved is lingering anger among Senate Democrats over Lieberman's Republican convention speech.

He has to go. Not a cool speech he gave at the convention.

How many days has this guy actually worked in the last year. Homeland Security would seem to be somewhat important- when was he there? It is one thing to have Senators absent when they are running for office, but quite another when they are merely cheerleaders. Was he being paid by the taxpayer to travel with McCain?

And how close America came to electing this man Vice-President. Imagine the position we'd be in now if he had.

My sentiments exactly - the new Democratic Congress must strip him and the other Bush sympathizers of their power - Pelosi also comes to mind.

They'll probably keep him on. What a bunch of phony pageantry. Washington makes me sick.

I read somewhere a few months back that every Tuesday the Democratic caucus meets to have lunch and discuss policy issues. Apparently, as soon as Joe walks in, some of the members walk out because they can't stand him. It is that bad.

If Lieberman can't be loyal to his party ,I doubt he can remain loyal to THIS Country ,when his behind is the one on the line ,Lieberman should be stripped of the chairmanship. As for purgeing of the GOP ,I doubt thats a good idea ,as democracy goes pssssssfttttt out the door.Thomas Jefferson was a Republican .His Republican Party was the party of liberalism, of slashing the national debt and national defense expenditures and the end of the National Bank. Jefferson was denounced as being un-Christian by the opposition, but yet todays Republicans are die hard Conservatives and seem to let their party be controlled by powerfull Evangelics .The republican party destroyed itself in 1824,and tried to be the 'grassroots, home town ,down home type of party, sorta like Palin was TRYING to come across as by portraying herself as just that type of POLITICAN .For thirty years after the party failure in 1824 , the two primary parties to became the Democrat-Republicans (later became just Democrats) and the Whig party. It was with the dissolution of the Whig party that the Republicans were reborn, albeit in new form.I don't see the republican party dying 'off' I do sense some MAJOR changes with-in the powerfull and senior members of the GOP.A new generation of Republicans are emergeing and they have different ideas, views and a LARGE percent of these 'New Republicans ' aren't indebted to the Evangelics or even conservative Christians. This scares the 'old school' GOP .

Your first line is exactly what is wrong with the country. We NEED people to stop the loyalty to the party and instead be loyal to this country. I am so tired of replubicans voting against anything a democrat stands for and vice versa. If you believe in something, stand up for it regardless of party lines.

This is where you are SOOOOO wrong. Most Americans do not believe 100% in the party line. We are in the middle. I want represenatitives (like McCain and Lieberman) who cross party lines to do what they believe is right for the country. NOT WHAT IS RIGHT BY THEIR PARTY.

Wake up people and understand this is not about Republican vs. Democrat ... it's about doing what is right for ALL AMERICANS regardless of party. I hope that Obama feels this same dedication to all Americans ... not just those who voted for him.
