Sherri Shepherd broke down in tears on "The View" Wednesday talking about Barack Obama's victory. The mother of a young son with special needs, Sherri related to Sarah Palin and had been openly undecided. But with Obama's victory, she broke down over the historic win of an African American. Speaking of the Civil Rights Movement and the limitations she was told she had had growing up, Sherri said in part, "To look at my baby and go, you don't have to have limitations..." and she broke down in tears.

What is interesting to me is that Sherri has admitted to having multiple abortions...now I don't judge people on what they do, so I don't care about choices people have to make, or the fact that people out there love who they love because that is just who they are plain and simple. But why is Sherri get to be the jury on this one? If I were her, I would just keep my mouth shut on the subject.

This woman (sherri) is annoying. Why all the emotion about her son AFTER the election? Please.

She is not crying about her son. She is crying because of the history of blacks
in America and the fact that today, we are here. But i wouldn't expect you to be
able to relate to the descendants of slaves...

Tell Sherri that she is way out of line by spreading outrageous anti-gay lies. Preachers could not be jailed in American for preaching against gays because we have a very strong Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion.

We've got to fight these lies and smears.

Also complain to ABC about Sherri and Elizabeth spreading these homophobic lies...

I actually did send a complaint to ABC (Thank you for providing the link here b/c it took me a few minutes to locate where to send). Perhaps she was advised of these complaints as she says today that she does respect others, such as Ellen/Portia to be married however it is just her belief & how she was taught to be against gay marriage - so everyone should then respect her opinion... I am wondering how she would feel about those people that were taught to be prejudice against African Americans, would she respect their opinions as well. I do not agree with those prejudice opinions, but is she would like everyone to respect her right to be a bigot - would she also respect those that have prejudice feelings? I mean we cant have things both ways to suit our own feelings...

Ok he won move on. I am so tired of listening about how bad the blacks had it. News flash the Indians had it far worse then they did yet you don't hear them crying about it.

Obama winning the Presidency was a monumental event that many races could not see happening given the history of America! Why don't you understand that? The fact that you would tell African Americans to "move on" shows how illogical and insensitive you really are. Who cares if you're tired of hearing about it? I do believe AA have a right to voice their opinions, especially in a country that has committed such blatant atrocities toward them. And newsflash... Native Americans do "cry" about it as well. You even sound naive and terribly out of touch with your own culture.

The Indians had it far worse? Ha ha. Not true. The Indians were never slaves for hundreds of years, the Indians didn't have to sit back and watch their women raped, their sons lynched and the families torn apart for hundreds of years. When was the last time that Indians got beat in the streets, hosed down with fire hoses or spit on for trying to desegregate schools or eat at an whites only establishment?

When was the last time that Indians were denied the right to vote? When was the last time THEY were declared only 3/5 HUMAN?! So, don't come to me with this bull about how so and so has
had it so much worse. You can't relate and you NEVER will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was totally angry at her comments today regarding the gay marriage ref. she supported it - because she is a Christian. That is an excuse to go along with veiled prejudice and infringement on other's individual rights. There are tons of verses in the bible that a civilized society no longer goes along with.

I love watching the View but get so disheartened by Sherri's continued discrimination against gay people. . She being someone that would like the world to be inclusive of all people except gays . I understand her deep routed feelings for how black people have been historically treated because I feel treated this way by her TODAY :(

THE MESSAGE IS STILL GOOD, SO STOP DISCOUNTING IT JUST BECAUSE U THINK SHE IS AN AIR HEAD.

Thank you! I think what she said was endearing and heartfelt. I understand where she is coming from and think that no matter what she has done or said in the past does not discredit what she feels at this moment.

Sherri Shepherd is a phony and a wolve in "shepherds"clothes.
She was undecided on the day of the election and probably
voted McCain/Palin because she can relate to Palin .C,MON
She was crying because she was on the wrong side of history for
voted McCain and it will haunt her the rest of her life.
Was the message from McCain that great that she was undecided
till election day.CROCODILE TEARS BECAUSE YOU WERE ON THE
WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY. AND THAT HURTS.

Why was she voting on special needs v race? Of course Sherri ain't the brightest bulb in the lamp, but we will only be free if she chooses her candidate based on ability to lead with a clear vision, etc.
I'm afraid those who choose our leaders really are thinking about having a beer with them. Frightening.

Sherri is a big phony.A couple of days ago she was undecided. She liked what Palin said about special needs children. She's unsure if the world is round. She's had numerous abortions(she admitted this on a Christian radio show)but now she's a perfect Christian. She and millions of other phony church goers are the main reason,I've distanced myself from organized religion.Don't get me started on Hasselbeck who proclaimed her support for Obama after bashing him for 2 years. They both make me physically ill!!!

I understand her joy at having the " limitations " removed for her and her son. It's liberating. The irony in beating bigotry against people of color is ..... That in CA it was a huge percentage of black voters who felt they had the right to remove the rights of Gay people from the very protections they enjoy .. GO FIGURE ! Of all people on Earth, you would think that the American Black citizen would understand Hate and Bigotry more than ANYONE .... now they are a guilty as the plantation owners themselves.

Sherri has been trashed here constantly for a year, and now because she cries for Obama, she's sweet. It's like Colin Powell, he was a war criminal here since he lied before the UN, and than he endorsed Obama and becomes a hero. She's a loon, and he's a war criminal, I don't care who they endorse.

I really wanted Obama to win but I didn't realize how emotional I'd be. This means so much for America. I am so proud to be an American and I really feel that this is the best country on earth.

To have a black president just years after the civil rights movement says a lot about America and how far we've come. I really think that people are more open-minded to minorities of all ethnicities now because America has become so diverse.

To see Obama and his beautiful family on election night brought me to tears.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:54 PM on 11/06/2008

Are those tears or is that just suet leaking from her eyes?

Oh,wow. Give Sherri a break. She is a mother of a special needs child . Maybe that's how she was thinking.....and isn't as informed as she shoud be. Maybe she was thinking with her heart?
But also, I can't understand why she would think Palin would do service for special needs children. I have never heard Pailn involved with anything related to those issues except that she has a child of her own with special needs. Palin is the phony. Sherri is confused.

Sherry is not confused, she was just capitalizing on the event. Look at how much attention she is getting from this publicity stunt! Gimme a break...

I understand that besides Palin having her Down's Syndrome child, her sister has a child with autism. The problem as I see it is that Palin never championed either of these things in legislation or from her executive post while she was governor. In fact, she cut funding for residential programs for special needs children...despite the fact that Alaska gets most of their tax dollars from oil companies. There is no State income of sales tax.

If Palin suddenly starts showing as much interest as an advocate of special needs kids as she does for her "pro-life" political forays then I might believe her heart is in it.

But when she attacks scientific research into things like the genetics of fruitflies it shows a lack of comprehension of how such research on "model animals" relates to assisting human health. The fact that genes existed on chromosomes was first made on fruit fly chromosomes. The first mapping of genes occurred in the fruit fly genome. How mutations impact development was first discovered in fruit flies. And the fact that chromosomal aberrations during meiosis impact normal growth and behavior - which led to the discovery of the Trisomy 21-Down's Syndrome relationship...was first identified in Drosophila.

Maybe she hates genetics because all those evolutionary things...mutation, natural selection, speciation have all been found to occur in fruit flies?

Different point of view here. I thought yesterday's View was one of the best discussions I'd seen in a while. For one I thought Elizabeth's thoughts regrading Obama's election were beautiful. That there were no losers. I had not expected that kind of reaction from her. Don't know what I expected. Probably that she'd be angry, but she wasn't.

I also found myself welling up with Sheri when she spoke. And that along with a comment Barbara Walters made about the effect of this election on African-American males really made me see things in a different light.

I can also understand why it took her so long to make since she is the mother of a child with disabilities and the Palin ticket was promising to bring this issue to the forefront. Deep down my thought would be that she always preferred Obama.

I wish HuffPo had posted the EH portion of this show. I would love to hear more reactions to EH's commentary. I thought it was beautiful, and though a little too late, I am hoping she will finally start to expand her worldview and see the positive change made possible by Obama's presidency.
