Sherri Shepherd broke down in tears on "The View" Wednesday talking about Barack Obama's victory. The mother of a young son with special needs, Sherri related to Sarah Palin and had been openly undecided. But with Obama's victory, she broke down over the historic win of an African American. Speaking of the Civil Rights Movement and the limitations she was told she had had growing up, Sherri said in part, "To look at my baby and go, you don't have to have limitations..." and she broke down in tears.

She had me really emotional this morning, people have been crying around me all day when others were explaining their reactions. What an amazing thing.

What did she do? Did she vote for Obama?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:32 PM on 11/05/2008

Her response was lost in the explanation. She did vote for Obama but had said that she was undecided not long ago. Barbara asked her why she was undecided, and she referred to '"Sara having a needy child" and admitted she could relate to that!

This is one of those irrational thoughts I never comprehend from people who seem to have missed Barak and Michelle's entire message in the last year.

But she changed her mind from McCain-Palin to Obama-Biden on election day because her son wanted Obama! Her own little boy had to lead her to the vote!

I would like to share with you and any potentially audience a very special music composition that pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy and historic dream. The moving lyrics convey proof that Dr. Kings' historic and magnificent dream is still revealing itself. As Barack Obama approaches this historic accomplishment of being elected as President of the United States, it confirms that Dr. King's dream is still very much alive.

As the chorus reads:
King's Dream still lives on
Inside of us today
Time has come
For his vision to be realized
Though the journey's been long...
We're finding the strength to carry on

Elizabeth turned off her GOP spigot quickly didn't she? She praised Obama. She'll be dogging him again next week.

Bill Ayers finally spoke in the New Yorker too. He said he barely knew Obama. John McCain's campaign let him down. They wasted too much time tearing down Obama instead of sticking to the issues.

John McCain couldn't in a million years have won on the issues; not with the Bush, GOP, and recession albatrosses all hanging round his neck.

My son sat up with his grandma, my 69 year old white mom, all night! They were so excited. My mother STILL hasn't gone to bed. We have sat here talking, crying, talking and crying. We are overjoyed, hopeful and sooooooo very proud of this man and his determination.

I TRUST that he will focus his abilities, wisdom and charisma in a direction ALL Americans can follow.

She made me cry, too. I fortunately haven't had to tolerate what it's like to be black in America, but she spoke from her heart and I felt it.

I think moments like that are what will unite the country.

Love the way she had to consult her cue cards for the names of the great civil rights leaders.

Her tears are genuine. She is personalizing her reaction to Obama's victory. She is saying she was constantly told she couldn't do what she wanted to do, become a comic or an actress. And when Obama says, "yes you can," it had a powerful emotional impact on her. Apparently, Shari grew up in an evangelical, probably backwards, family and it is amazing what she has accomplished in light of that background.

Elisabeth, to her credit, offered some comfort to her overwhelmed with emotion friend. Joy did not. Both Elisabeth and Shari grew up in very conservative religiou families and both are trying to make sense now of the real world.

Being hispanic, I understand the pride that african americans are feeling and what Whoopi and Sheri were talking to Lizzy Hasselbeck about. I have had instances of racism, however I always remember my father telling me a story about traveling thru east Texas while in med school and coming up to a restaurant that had a sign that read "No dogs or mexicans allowed". This story has always stuck with me. These are the kind of experiences that princess Elizabeth has no ability to empathize with. I love this country and always have. Today I am filled with optimism, joy, and hope for a better america for all.
