Sherri Shepherd broke down in tears on "The View" Wednesday talking about Barack Obama's victory. The mother of a young son with special needs, Sherri related to Sarah Palin and had been openly undecided. But with Obama's victory, she broke down over the historic win of an African American. Speaking of the Civil Rights Movement and the limitations she was told she had had growing up, Sherri said in part, "To look at my baby and go, you don't have to have limitations..." and she broke down in tears.

I love watching that show! One African American liberal, one white liberal, one white ultra-conservative, one African American social conservative, and then there's Barbara Walters. All of them with strong voices. What a brilliant strategy to create a talk show which by design couldn't help but draw huge ratings. And Hasselback has actually been beneficial in reminding us why we shouldn't tune in to Fox. Too much blood pressure risk!

I stayed up very late last night. I felt the need to be a witness to history. Today I'm tired and a little dismayed that so many people still harbor such hostility from this election season. I try to tell myself that I will feel better after a good night's sleep and that time will heal. I hope so.
I also hope that someone can explain to me why, after seeing the joy and elation from so many people in this country and around the world, some people still have the inclination to exhibit a meanness and smallness of heart? If Senator McCain can give such an eloquent and conciliatory speech and Senator Obama can give such an inclusive acceptance speech, why can't those of us who claim to be their supporters rise to their level? Why can't we put our anger down and pick up the task of making this country a better place? The election is over...time to move on.

Did you see what Nader said? http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=ibsP6XN2dIo

He needs to be dragged through town and horse whipped. His career most certainly ended last night.

But to answer your question, people are still harboring hatred, etc. because "only" 52% of the country voted for Obama. That means that slightly under half did not, and those are the ones who are pissed today. They'll get over it, just like we did in 2000 and 2004, when they elected Bush. I remember crying my eyes out, thinking we were certainly at a time of doom. I lived through it... barely.

I hope Ralph is wrong and his phraseology is a bit crude, but he might be right. Let's all hope for the best.

I would like to share with you and any potentially audience a very special music composition that pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy and historic dream. The moving lyrics convey proof that Dr. Kings' historic and magnificent dream is still revealing itself. As Barack Obama approaches this historic accomplishment of being elected as President of the United States, it confirms that Dr. King's dream is still very much alive.

As the chorus reads:
King's Dream still lives on
Inside of us today
Time has come
For his vision to be realized
Though the journey's been long...
We're finding the strength to carry on

In my individual opinion it was not [JUST] an election but an enlightenment. You notice she said Palin not Mac? You can not stop the truth no matter how hard you try. The [TRUTH IS] and I understand some may not like it, but [SCIENTIFIC] historical records reveal this for a fact was not a normal election. Its a shift in beliefs that I for one admire. Lets respect one another and Love thy neighbor. UNITED WE STAND

I'm with you. I was glad that she didn't open her stupid mouth in this video, although I would have loved to see her in tears last night when the race was called for Obama. That would have just made my night just that much more fun.

Now let's see how much longer she lasts on The View. She certainly will be black-balled in liberal Hollywood. She may have to take that job on Fox, which is where she best fits in anyway.

palin is despicable.

there were many things that i found objectionable about palin, but i have to say, as a new yorker, her comments about "unamerican" people living in unamerican parts of the country was outrageous. how dare she have called those brave NYPD firefighters who died on 9/11 along with all of the other people who died on 9/11 unamerican.

disgusting. i hope i never see her face again.

I'm still crying at the drop of a pin! That was my first reaction last night when CNN announced it - my husband hugged me then he started dancing in the living room as I cried and tried to videotape him. I was so proud to tell my American citizen son who is Kenyan by blood that he can be anything he wants to be in America.

agnostic leaning atheist here. furthermore, black...male...texas...and 39 years old. that vid touched me because it wasn't about christian insistence. it was about hope and belief in the best of humanity. no matter what color or creed; we are all human beings, and no particular color or creed is better than any other. how much common sense and consciene does it take to accept and appreciate that?!?

I am a forty-something, white female and I have supported Obama since he spoke at the DNC in 2004. I saw then that he was special. I don't see a man of color when I look at him. I just see a great man who has the potential to be a wonderful leader and return America to its once respected standing in the world; a unifier, not a divider. He's going to need all of our help and he will ask for it and accept it. While I can't truly know how a black person feels, I am sympathetic because of what they have had to endure. Electing our first black president cannot make up for years of injustice, but hopefully, it's a very good start.
.................

As for Sherri, I never believed that she was undecided...NEVER. I think she was going along to get along with Elizabeth. No one will convince me that she ever intended to vote for McCain/Palin. It's obvious that the only ticket that would benefit children, special needs or not, is the Obama/Biden ticket so her reason lacks credibility. It's sad that she felt she had to straddle the fence so no one would accuse her of supporting Obama because of race. It wasn't just blacks who elected him, that's for sure. He's the best man for the job, come on. I don't care if he's purple and pink with polka dots.

Ladycubsfan - I whole-heartedly agree with you!! I also saw Obama speak at the 2004 DNC and told my husband, "That man is special. We need to watch and see what he does because he is going big places."

For his campaign, I made my first contribution, stopped at a campaign office and bought yard signs, voted early, took my 9 yr old son to the polls, and last night - before the polls closed - myself, my husband, and my little boy joined over 50 other people to stand on a busy street corner in Central FL and wave Obama for President signs and yell his name to the passing cars.

Over the past 20 months, we have fretted and argued our points to those who were undecided or misled. My family cried for joy together last night....and I have to say that today, for the first time in a long time, I am proud to be an American again.

Sherri made me cry again because I can really see how important and life changing this election has been, not only for my family, but for everyone. Go America!
