NEW YORK — Attention, Mr. president-elect: Come Inauguration Day, Beyonce is at your service.

"I'm there. I can't wait. I feel like all of us, we're ready to do whatever we have to do. Whatever they want _ if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I'm there, and I'm ready," a giddy Beyonce said in an interview the day after Barack Obama made history in becoming the nation's first elected black president.

The singer couldn't stop beaming after Obama's win over Republican John McCain on Tuesday. In fact, she was so inspired, she wore a blue suit and tie in honor of Obama _ with stiletto heels that were red, white and blue.

"I've never been so patriotic!" she laughed. "I'm just beyond excited."

Beyonce was supposed to be in Japan on Election Night to promote her upcoming album, "I Am ... Sasha Fierce," but decided to postpone it at the last minute.

"I said, 'What am I doing? I'm completely making a bad decision. I have to go home, I'm gonna kill myself if I'm not home in America,'" she said. "I knew I needed to be here."

After going with hubby Jay-Z, Diddy, Mary J. Blige and others to states like Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio just before the election, she watched the returns Tuesday night with family and friends in her home. She was not only inspired by Obama, but McCain's concession as well: "McCain's speech was so classy."

The 27-year-old said the win was particularly important for the inspiration it gave to African-Americans.

"My nephew, who is 4, when we say, 'You can do whatever, you can be whatever,' it's not cliche. You have no doubt that it's not true," she said.

The election even brought Beyonce to tears, though she says it was the good kind: "I fell asleep crying and smiling at the same time," she laughed. I woke up with mascara running and a smile on my face!"

The job of singing the national anthem (for this moment) needs to come from a living legend.
Stevie Wonder needs to do it. If Marvin was with us, he'd would be in line. Al Green come out! Maybe Stevie can blend/mix national anthem into "Overjoyed" with Al. This is not a pop moment, its' historic and needs to legendary.

Beyonce is for Beyonce only. I have followed this election throughly and I've watched and listen to all the celebrities that showed their true support for Obama, I haven't heard anything from or about Beyonce until now. I think she has been very selfish when it came to her other counter parts of Destiny Child who records sales (CDs) flopped because they never had chance/time for viewer to even purchase or enjoy their CDs before Beyonce out shine them by download her music. It was basically competition not friendship and respect for them. I think she's very selfishness which will eventually catch up with her.

She's a beautiful singer but she thinks that the world surrounds around her that's why Jennifer Hudson stood out more in "Dreamgirls". I hope that because Jennifer is from Chicago that Obama select her to sing at his Inauguration because she needs some uplifting after the turmoil that has happen in her life recently.

Why are we bickering over this folks. Do not pretend to know everything b/c we don't. She may have contributed in ways that we do not know about. The reason why Obama 's campaign was successful is b/c his mantra throughout was 'No Drama' when he addressed his staffers. Washington will be awash with parties and Beyonce, Jay Z , Diddy, Mary J, The Boss,Stevie, et al will get to peform one place or the other. No place for division it has to be unision. Peace.

Actually her participation was very minimal at best. I am glad she got out there to say something (since she has never taken a political position ever) but I think this has more to do with her album dropping next month and stirring publicity for it's release.

Where did she campaign for him? Where was this?? In Why are people giving this young lady so much credit? Is she that good?? Come on...

She wasn't at Barbara Streisand's fundraiser when she raised over $11 million. HA! These folks that will have the pleasure of schmoozing with our President -Elect and first lady. I don't believe Beyonce, Jay - Z, Sean Combs or any others were in attendance.

She is only offering because Jennifer Hudson sang at the DNC....typical of her. When they asked her who she endorsed about a month ago, she never really answered the question. She has a album coming out and is looking for record sales....Geez. Go sit down Beyonce

Oh stop being unkind. Beyonce is just as excited as the rest of us. Unlike most of us, she has a great talent and she offered to contribute to the President-elect's Inauguration celebration. Why spoil the joy with negative speculations. You don't know that woman's heart...

You are right. She has never taken a political stand on aything. Why now? It's a publicity stunt. Just like not wanting to tell people they were married. If you keep people guessing it's garners interest.

Beyonce needs to put on some clothes, check her ego and sit her weaved-out, horrible singing-voice dehind down somewhere; she wasn't asked! There are some truly WONDERFUL, TALENTED singers out there that could do a far better job:

Barbra Streisand
Natalie Cole
Yvette Stevens aka Chaka Khan
Whitney Houston (she'll clean up for this)
Patti Austin
Diana Krall (is she a Dem)
Diane Reeves

And many, many others. Ugh - Beyonce is such a manufactured lightweight.

All of the women listed above Beyonce can't even touch and they all can sing without any music. They are truly natural born singers. Beyonce was created by her parents. She should set down and let the event organizers ask her.

Beyonce is for the younger crowd who helped make this happen!!! And hopefully there will be a variety of different entertainers.

I have always wanted Fantasia(with black hair and no screaming) to sing 'I believe'..I thought this was an appropriate song since he announced his candidacy for president. Barack is a smart man and I believe as he asked B to stay away from the Chicago acceptance party he will also offer B maybe an invite but only as a guest not as a singer...Why did she offer thats whats tacky about her she couldve waited at least to be asked ...its like she wanted to get her name out there before he called who he really wants.

She is a Canadian! A good choice.

Do you think Barbara Streisand would do "A Place for Us?!" That would be so awesome!!!

There are just too many fabulous entertainers who would be so honored to contruibute to that celebration. They're going to have to put all of the names in a hat or something and draw names.

Everybody's going to be watching this Inauguration...It will be spectacular -- elegant and fun.

This is my first ever comment here.

Only one mention so far of the most obvious and classiest choice of singers, Mavis Staples. Born in Chicago, a civil rights activist and family friend of Dr. King. She's not working the new album promo angle, and Mavis would add dignity to the proceedings. (She also isn't one of the melismatic, over-the-top, post-Stevie Wonder. paid-by-the-grace-note assassins of the National Anthem.)

Of course, the choice is in the Obamas' hands.

oh puleeeze, she just wants to do it for publicity for the new album.

Since Jennifer Hudson sang at the convention, Beyonce is trying to out-do her and sing at the inauguration.

I hope President-elect Obama doesn't fall for her phony crap.

Beyonce supported Barack Obama throughout his plight for Presidency. But I think i would like for him to ask Jennifer Hudson, from Chicago who also supported him . But Big O, its your choice Big Guy.

If anyone sings at the Inauguration it has got to be Aretha. Direct line between her and Martin Luther King, Jr to Barack Obama. God, can you imagine being able to tell the Queen of Soul you want her for a Command Performance. Dare she say no?

Bye bye Beyonce (stupidest name in showbiz); I'd rather hear Jennifer Hudson than you if it come to that. She creamed you in Dreamgirls.

I would personally prefer to see an entertainer who worked supporting Obama during the campaign versus coming in after the hard work has been done. Let Bruce Springstein get the credit for all the support he has done by being there to sing "Born in the USA".

Why would she offer...why not wait and be asked? So tacky!! Beyonce is in no way representative of what the singer should be. She is so selfish...always trying to appear humble with an ulterior motive..in this case album promotion.

I can't imagine an Obama Inauguration without U2 doing "The city of blinding lights." That was Obama's theme song during the primaries and from the first note of that song I see Iowa and NH and South Carolina and so on... I don't think anyone could ever listen to that song again and not think of Barack and Michelle walking on to the stage the night he won Iowa.
